GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US..
I'M FRANK MALLOY..
LEAH JOHNSON HAS THE NIGHT OFF..

DAVID OEDEL... A MERCER LAW PROFESSOR SAYS SOPA...

WOULD MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR THE FREE FLOW OF IDEAS THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE ON THE INTERNET.
HE ALSO SAYS IT WOULD MAKE IT HARD FOR ORGANIZATIONS LIKE WIKIPEDIA TO SURVIVE.

David Oedel, Mercer Law Professor: " If you can't talk about and link to sites freely and without checking whther those sites themselves are clean you will be less incline to link to those sights if you are going to be held liable."

ODEL SAYS PREVENTING PIRACY IS A GOOD IDEA BUT SOPA IS A VIOLATION OF OUR FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS.
EARLIER THIS AFTERNOON....THE NEW YORK TIMES REPORTED THAT SEVERAL SENATORS...INCLUDING THE CO-SPONSORS OF SOPA...SAY THEY ARE WITHDRAWING SUPPORT.
ONE OF THEM...UTAH REPUBLICAN ORRIN HATCH...SAID SOPA IS NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME.
THE BILL IS SCHEDULED FOR A SENATE TEST VOTE NEXT WEEK
NO WORD YET ON WHETHER THAT WILL STILL HAPPEN.

ROBERT REICHERT AND BIBB COUNTY COMMISSION CHAIRMAN SAM HART SAY THEY'RE EXCITED ABOUT WHAT LIES AHEAD FOR THE CITY AND COUNTY IN 2012.

THEY OUTLINED THEIR PRIORITIES FOR THE NEW YEAR AT A ROTARY CLUB LUNCHEON.
REICHERT SAYS HE'S OPTIMISTIC BECAUSE THE CITY HAS MORE MONEY IN RESERVE FUNDS... AND HE SAYS PLANS TO RENOVATE THE DANNENBERG BUILDING... DOUBLE THE SIZE OF THE ROSA PARKS PARK.... AND FIX UP SECOND STREET WILL REVITALIZE THE AREA.
SOME ROTARY MEMBERS SAID THEY LIKED SEEING THE CITY AND COUNTY LEADERS WORKING TOGETHER.

Tony Widner, Landscape Architect: I think it was a positive message that the local government's working together and moving forward in a positive way."
Susan Kern, Infinity Network Solutions: "The biggest impression is th eunity of the county and city. I've been in Macon my entire life and we've never had unity like we have today."

HART SAYS NEXT WEEK... COMMISSIONERS WILL CONSIDER HIRING A FIRM TO MANAGE SPLOST PROJECTS.
HE ALSO SAYS AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE PUT TOGETHER TO KEEP THE PUBLIC INFORMED ABOUT THE PROJECTS WILL MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME NEXT MONTH.

ELDERLY SEX OFFENDERS AND OTHER PRISONERS WITH MEDICAL PROBLEMS MAY SOON BE TRANSFERRED TO A STATE PRISON BUILDING IN MILLEDGEVILLE.
STATE OFFICIALS CLOSED BOSTICK STATE PRISON IN 20-09.. BUT THE GOVERNOR'S MIDYEAR BUDGET PROPOSAL INCLUDES SIX MILLION DOLLARS TO TURN IT INTO A HUNDRED AND FIFTY BED HOME FOR SICK INMATES.
ANGIE GHEESLING.. DIRECTOR OF THE MILLEDGEVILLE AND BALDWIN COUNTY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY.. SAYS A PRIVATE COMPANY SUGGESTED THE IDEA ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO.

Angie Gheesling, Development Authority: They had an idea for reuse that was a good situation for them, but also for the Department of Corrections because this population are parolees that are just not in any medical condition to be released to individuals or to other facilities. So this facility would actually house those, a nursing home of sorts for parolees.

MILLEDGEVILLE MAYOR RICHARD BENTLEY ALSO LIKES THE PROPOSAL.. HE SAYS THE CONVERSION WOULD MAKE A GOOD USE FOR THE OLD PRISON.. WOULD CREATE JOBS FOR THE COMMUNITY
AND COULD RESULT IN A SIMILAR CONVERSION TO ANOTHER CLOSED PRISON NEARBY.

Richard Bentley, Milledgeville Mayor: It's my understanding roughly around 250 jobs when the projects reaches fruition. As you just mentioned just a moment ago, Bostick is the building that they're looking at now, but Men's is right across the street, and the original proposal was to place about 300 folks in these buildings.

UNDER THE PROPOSAL.. THE STATE'S PARDONS BOARD WOULD RELEASE THE OFFENDERS TO THE FACILITY.. WHICH WOULD BE OPERATED BY A PRIVATE COMPANY.
THAT COMPANY WOULD BE PAID WITH FEDERAL MEDICAID MONEY.. NOT STATE FUNDS.

DEPUTIES IN CLAYTON COUNTY SEIZED 2 THOUSAND POUNDS OF MARIJUANA.. WORTH MORE THAN 3 MILLION DOLLARS..AS PART OF AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION INTO MEXICAN DRUG TRAFFICKERS.
OFFICIALS TOOK THE DRUGS ALONG WITH OVER 200 THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM A WAREHOUSE IN FOREST PARK ON TUESDAY.
AUTHORITIES ARRESTED FOUR MEN DURING THE RAID... THEY WERE ALL CHARGED WITH TRAFFICKING MARIJUANA.

THE SHOW'S PROMOTERS SENT OUT AN EMAIL LAST NIGHT SAYING THE CONCERT WAS POSTPONED UNTIL APRIL 25.. BECAUSE HAGGARD WAS ILL.

AVID MUSIC FAN TODD BAKER HAD TICKETS TO THE CONCERT..
HE TRIED TO MEET HAGGARD BEFORE THE SHOW ... BUT HE SAYS HAGGARD'S PERSONAL ASSISTANT TOLD HIM THE SINGER WASN'T FEELING WELL...
HE DID TAKE BAKERS GUITAR BACK TO GET IT SIGNED....
BAKER SAYS EVEN BEFORE THE SHOW... THERE WAS TALK ABOUT THE SINGER BEING SICK...

Todd Baker: Fort Valley: Ray his driver and personal assistant told me that he was sick, not feeling well, but at that point he was still going to try to do the show and his bus didn't pull out to take him to the hospital twenty minutes until the show time was supposed to start."

AT A NEWS CONFERENCE...COLONEL ROGER JOHNSON.. 78TH MISSION SUPPORT COMMANDER... ENCOURAGED PEOPLE TO CHOOSE GROUP TRANSPORTATION ... TO EASE TRAFFIC... PARKING AND AIR POLLUTION.
HE SAYS MORE PEOPLE ARE MAKING THAT CHOICE... SINCE THEY STARTED PUSHING GROUP TRANSIT IN 2010... BUT THEY NEED MORE.

Col. Roger Johnson, 78th Mission Support Commander: "We really need community partners and ourselves to keep working together to that next level, to try to get more people, more participants to ride it. Really asking people on the base, our work force to take advantage of these initiatives."
