HELLO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.....I'M LEAH JOHNSON..
AND I'M FRANK MALLOY..THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX.

THE MAN ACCUSED OF MURDERING LAUREN GIDDINGS WENT BEFORE A JUDGE THIS MORNING.
STEPHEN MCDANIEL PLEADED NOT GUILTY TO CHARGES RELATED TO CHILD PORNOGRAPHY.
ELEANOR LISSITZYN IS HERE TO TELL US MORE.
ELEANOR?
IN NOVEMBER.. A GRAND JURY INDICTED MCDANIEL ON THIRTY COUNTS OF CHILD EXPLOITATION... AFTER PROSECUTORS SAID THEY FOUND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY ON A FLASH DRIVE IN MCDANIEL'S APARTMENT.
TODAY... MCDANIEL WAS ASKED TO ENTER A PLEA ON THOSE CHARGES.
HE ENTERED THE COURTROOM AROUND NINE FORTY FIVE... SHACKLED HAND AND FOOT.
HE LOOKED MORE ALERT THAN THE LAST TIME WE SAW HIM IN AUGUST.
MCDANIEL SAT CALMLY AT THE DESK WITH HIS LAWYER... FLOYD BUFORD... BEFORE THEY APPROACHED THE JUDGE.
HE NEVER SPOKE PUBLICLY.
INSTEAD BUFORD ENTERED A PLEA OF 'NOT GUILTY' ON ALL COUNTS.
MCDANIEL LATER SIGNED A PLEA DOCUMENT.
I SPOKE WITH DISTRICT ATTORNEY GREG WINTERS ABOUT WHERE THE CASE GOES FROM HERE.
HE SAYS NOW THEY'RE WAITING FOR A TRIAL DATE TO BE SET... ON THE CHILD EXPLOITATION CHARGES.
ON THE MURDER CASE.... WINTERS WOULDN'T SAY WHETHER ALL THE EVIDENCE IS BACK FROM FORENSIC TESTING.
BUT HE DID SAY THEY'RE "STILL WORKING ON THE CASE."
WINTERS SAYS SINCE HE'S ASKING FOR THE DEALTH PENALTY IN THAT CASE... THEY'LL NEED TO HAVE A 'FIRST PROCEEDING MEETING... BEFORE MCDANIEL CAN BE ARRAIGNED ON THE MURDER CHARGES.
THAT'S WHERE WINTERS SAYS THE ATTORNEY'S INVOLVED WILL INTRODUCE THEMSELVES TO THE COURT... AND SET AN ARRAIGNMENT DATE.
FRANK.. LEAH?
THANKS ELEANOR.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS ON TRACK TO RUN A DEFICIT BELOW A TRILLION DOLLARS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOUR YEARS
THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT SAYS THE DEFICIT WAS 236 BILLION DOLLARS FOR THE FIRST TWO MONTHS OF THE BUDGET YEAR.
THAT'S HIGH BY HISTORICAL STANDARDS... BUT 55 BILLION DOLLARS LOWER THAN THE SAME TWO MONTH PERIOD LAST YEAR.
THAT PUTS THE GOVERNMENT ON PACE TO END THE YEAR 973 BILLION DOLLARS IN THE RED... ACCORDING TO THE CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE.
THAT COULD CHANGE THIS MONTH IF CONGRESS EXTENDS A SOCIAL SECURITY TAX CUT AND EXTENDED UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS.
