    THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX.

THE HOLIDAY SEASON IS ONE OF THE BUSIEST TIMES OF THE YEAR FOR RETAIL.
    AND THANKS TO A PROGRAM CALLED DASH THROUGH DODGE... SOME OF THE MOM AND POP SHOPS CAN GET IN ON THE ACTION.
    AUSTIN LEWIS SHOWS YOU HOW THE PROGRAM REACHES OUT TO LOCAL RETAILERS.
<<   IT'S THE HOLIDAY SEASON---AND FOR JUDY LOWERY---THE OWNER OF COLEMAN GIFTS AND FRAMING---ON MAIN STREET IN EASTMAN GEORGIA--IT'S NOT THE EASIEST TIME OF THE YEAR.

    AND WHILE IT'S DIFFICULT TO COMPETE WITH THOSE STORES---
    LOWERY SAYS THE DASH THROUGH DODGE EVENT IN EASTMAN---BRINGS MORE SHOPPERS INTO HER STORE.

    THEY ARE COMING IN TO GET WHAT THEY CALL... *PASSPORTS* STAMPED---
    SHOPPERS HAVE TO GET THE FLYER STAMPED AT EACH OF THE TEN PARTICIPATING STORES---TO BE ABLE TO ENTER INTO A DRAWING FOR A 500 DOLLAR SHOPPING SPREE.
    SOME RETAILERS SAY GETTING PEOPLE IN THE DOOR--IS HALF THE BATTLE.
Marlas Williamson, Owner of Southern Accents and Dirty Dawgz Pet Salon: Figuring out ways to drive people into your retail stores, it can be hard to do. So we're excited about Dash Through Dodge, cause we know it's gonna channel people into us.
    RETAILERS PARTICIPATING IN DASH THROUGH DODGE SAY THEY ARE HOPING ONCE THE CUSTOMER IS IN THE DOOR---THEY'LL APPRECIATE THE SMALL BUSINESS ADVANTAGE.
    AND SOME SHOPPERS SAY THEY DO.

THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR THAT EASTMAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HAS PUT ON DASH THROUGH DODGE.

TODAY THE GEORGIA VETERANS MEMORIAL CEMETARY IN MILLEDGEVILLE HELD THEIR 6TH ANNUAL LAYING OF THE WREATHS CEREMONY IN HONOR OF MILITARY VETERANS.  
FAMILIES AND FRIENDS CAME OUT TO PAY TRIBUTE BY LAYING WREATHS ON THE GRAVE SITES.
    AROUND FOUR HUNDRED WREATHS WERE DONATED TO THE MILLEDGEVILLE CEMETERY.
    ABOUT 100 PEOPLE CAME OUT TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE VETERANS.
    THE CEMETERY'S DIRECTOR SAYS HONORING THE VETERANS IS IMPORTANT.
Russell Feagin DIRECTOR OF GEORGIA VETERANS MEMORIALCEMETARY "so that people remember what are veterans have provided to the country, as well as what are military are doing now for our country."
THE LAYING OF THE WREATHS DATES BACK 20 YEARS AGO WHEN IT ORIGNINATED AT THE ARLINGTON CEMETARY.

THE JONES COUNTY CRUISERS CAR CLUB KICKED OFF THEIR  FIRST TOY DRIVE WITH A CAR SHOW.
THE SHOW REQUIRED PEOPLE TO BRING AN UNWRAPPED TOY IN ORDER TO REGISTER THEIR CAR FOR THE SHOW.
     KIDS AT THE EVENT GOT A CHANCE TO GET THEIR FACES PAINTED... AND MEET SANTA CLAUS.
    TIM STEWART WITH THE CLUB SAYS BEST PART IS GIVING OUT PRESENTS TO KIDS.
Tim  Stewart  jones county cruisers car club  "it is overwhleming it really is, you know the people in our car club come together this time of year and give chritmas baskets in things for the kids it just makes you feel good inside"
ACCORDING TO STEWART...  40 PEOPLE REGISTERED THEIR CARS AND THEY COLLECTED OVER  200 TOYS.
    THE CAR CLUB WIIL DELIVER ALL THE TOYS DECEMBER 16TH... TO D-FACS OFFICES IN JONES COUNTY.

NOT TO GIVE YOU ANY EXTRA ANXIETY... BUT CHRISTMAS IS JUST TWO WEEKS FROM TOMORROW.
     YOU MAY THINK THE MACON RESCUE MISSION WOULD NEED CLOTHES AND FOOD TO HELP TEND TO THE HOMELESS POPULATION.
     BUT IN DECEMBER THE SPECIAL ELVES HELP NEEDY FAMILIES BY GATHERING UP TOYS... LOTS AND LOTS OF TOYS.

     THEY'VE SET A DECEMBER 15TH AS A GOAL TO GET EVERYTHING COLLECTED... AND THEN FROM THERE THEY WILL DISTRIBUTE THE LOOT TO FAMILIES IN MACON... WARNER ROBINS AND MONROE COUNTIES.
       AND WHILE YOU MAY THINK A CHECK WOULD REALLY HELP... JULIE ADAIR SAYS UNWRAPPED TOYS ARE THE BEST BECAUSE THEIR VOLUNTEERS DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO GO SHOPPING.
