ROBERT BROWN WAS NOT JUST A SENATOR...BUT A CIVIL RIGHTS WORKER...A BUSINESSMAN....A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER....AND THIS YEAR....A MAYORAL CANDIDATE.
ELEANOR LISSITZYN HAS MORE ON BROWN'S POLITICAL CAREER.
ROBERT BROWN'S CAREER UNDER THE GOLD DOME STARTED THE SAME WAY IT ENDED...WITH A CAMPAIGN AGAINST ROBERT REICHERT.
"If I high turn out comes out, that;s more people that would have an experience with me."
HE WON THAT 1991 ELECTION ... AGAINST REICHERT.

AND THOSE WHO KNEW HIM BEST DURING BROWNS TWO DECADES IN THE STATE SENATE.. SAY HE ALWAYS WORKED HARD WITH THE PEOPLE IN MIND.
"There are people who have more experience then a Freshman woudl have. So I need to learn and catch up to speed before I take a leadership role."
BROWNS CAREER WOULD INCLUDE KEY COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS... AND THE TITLE OF SENATE DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY... AND LATER MINORITY LEADER.
AFTER YEARS OF BLOCKING MACON-BIBB CONSOLIDATION... BROWN DRAFTED HIS OWN CONSOLIDATION BILL... SHORTLY BEFORE HE LEFT THE SENATE.

BUT A FEW MONTHS LATER....BROWN ANNOUNCED HE PLANNED TO TAKE ON REICHERT AGAIN... THIS TIME... BY RUNNING FOR MAYOR OF MACON.
"I've done a good job as school board member, vice chair of the school board, head of the democratic senate committee"
BROWN FINISHED THIRD IN THE DEMOCRATIC MAYORAL PRIMARY IN JULY...AND REICHERT WON A SECOND TERM.

STD ONE OF BROWN'S LONGTIME POLITICAL ALLIES....WAS FORMER MACON MAYOR AND CONGRESSMAN JIM MARSHALL.
WE SPOKE WITH MARSHALL BY PHONE EARLIER TONIGHT.... ABOUT BROWN'S DEATH.
Jim Marshall: "What a loss for Macon and Middle Georgia. He would take positions that just irriatated the stew out of people and take them very, very strongly but he always took them believing that this was what was right this is what needed to be done and if people were upset then they just reflect on, and this is his view of course, but they should reflect on why it upset them."

SOME YOUNG VIOLINISTS AT GEORGIA COLLEGE'S EARLY COLLEGE IN MILLEDGEVILLE ARE PLAYING SOME SWEET MUSIC.
IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF A GRANT -- THAT ALLOWED THE SCHOOL TO BUY EIGHT VIOLINS.
THE SCHOOL RECEIVED ONE-THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM THE AMERICAN STRING TEACHERS ASSOCIATION TO KICK START THIS AFTER-SCHOOL MUSIC CLASS.
THE INSTRUCTOR-- DAN AUERBACH -- SAYS THIS GRANT WILL ALLOW HIM TO TEACH HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS THE BASICS OF THE VIOLIN -- FROM TAKING CARE OF IT -- TO PLAYING IT.
Dejanaye Scott, Milledgeville: It kinda shows that my principal respects us and she trust us with the violin and she trusts us to do the right thing with it. It's not a toy, it's actually a tool that's going to help us.
Onajah Tyler, Milledgeville: As I grow up I can learn more about the violin and play like my own solos.
AUERBACH SAYS THE STUDENTS ARE ALSO LEARNING HOW TO CREATE SOUND EFFECTS WITH THE INSTRUMENT.
HE SAYS HE IS APPLYING FOR OTHER GRANTS AND HOPES TO ADD MORE INSTRUMENTS TO THE CLASS.
