GOOD EVENING, AND THANKS FOR JOINING US... I'M BRITTINY BARBER.

THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.

OUR TOP STORY TONIGHT... PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL IS COMING BACK.

DARNAY TRIPP JOINS US NOW... WITH MORE ON WHY AFTER FIVE MONTHS... THE LOCKOUT IS CLOSE TO COMING TO AN END.

EARLY THIS MORNING THE NBA PLAYERS AND OWNERS CAME TO TERMS ON A NEW COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT....

THE DEAL STILL NEEDS TO BE APPROVED BY A MAJORITY OF THE 30 TEAM OWNERS AND 430 PLAYERS....

AS DREW LEVINSON REPORTS... A YES VOTE WILL MEAN ENDING LOCKOUT... AND AVOIDING LOSING THE ENTIRE SEASON.

<<

(--PKG--)

(SHOTS OF OWNERS AND PLAYERS AT TABLE)

The NBA owners and players teamed up to save the Season and get the put the

players back on the court.

(--SOT DAVID STERN/NBA COMMISSIONER--)

"WE WANT TO PLAY BASKETBALL")

After months of contentious negotiations they reached a tentative agreement,

ending the 149 day lockout.

(--SOT: BILLY HUNTER/PLAYERS UNION EXECUTIVE-- )

"IT WAS IN BOTH OF OUR INTERESTS TO TRY TO REACH A RESOLUTION ONE TO SAVE THE

GAME AND TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE KIND OF SUPERB ENTERTAINMENT THE NBA HAS

HISTORICALLY PROVIDED ."

The dispute was over revenues and changes owners wanted in a new collective

bargaining agreement.

They claimed they had lost hundreds of million of dollars a year since the

last deal was ratified in 2005.

Neither side offered details of the new 10-year agreement.

It still needs to be approved by a majority of the team's 30 owners and 430

players.

There are also legal hurdles.

If it can all be resolved training camp would open Dec 9th.

Instead of an 82 game season--the teams would play 66 games.

(--STANDUP: DREW LEVINSON REPORTING--)

AND THE SEASON WOULD START CHRISTMAS DAY, THE FIRST GAME WOULD BE PLAYED HERE

AT NEW YORK'S FAMED MADISON SQUARE GARDEN. THE BOSTON CELTICS WILL VISIT THE

KNICKS.

(--SOT: --)

"WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT OF COURSE"

Chad Huntington's store is just steps away from the arena where the Oklahoma

City Thunder play. He says sales have been crippled without game nights.

(SOT: CHAD HUNTINGTON/SHOP OWNER--)

"WE ALL DO VERY WELL WEHN THE THUNDER IS PLAYING AND IT WAS VERY FRUSTRATING

WHEN THEY WEREN'T."

President Barack Obama--fresh off a pickup basketball game of his own was

asked what he thought.

(--NATSOUND THUMBS UP--)

"GOOD DEAL"

>>

NOW... THE DEAL STILL HAS TO BE OFFICIALLY APPROVED BY BOTH OWNERS AND PLAYERS.... BUT SIGNS LOOK GOOD... ACCORDING TO COMMISSIONER DAVID STERN.

We expect our labor relations committee to endorse this deal. This tentative agreement. And we expect our board of governors -- at a meeting we will call after that -- to endorse the deal. And we expect that a collective bargaining agreement will arise out of this deal, as well.

ALL PARTIES INVOLVED ARE BEING GIVEN DETAILS OF THE AGREEMENT BEFORE THEY TAKE A FINAL VOTE.

BRITTINY...

THANKS DARNAY.
