GOOD EVENING ... AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.

I'M ELEANOR LISSITZYN

THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX.

TWO GROUPS OF PEOPLE ARE SPEAKING OUT AFTER THURSDAYS DOUBLE KILLING ON BROOKHAVEN ROAD... AND BOTH SAY THE BIBB COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE COULD HAVE PREVENTED THE DEATHS.

BUT THEY DISAGREE ABOUT WHAT LED UP TO THAT EVENING.

THURSDAY NIGHT... THE BIBB COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS GLEN MOORE ALLEGEDLY KICKED IN HIS NEIGHBOR'S DOOR... AND SHOT HENRY MITCHEM TO DEATH.

PHILLIP JENKINS... A FRIEND OF MOORE'S SAYS HE WARNED THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE THURSDAY AFTERNOON... OF PROBLEMS BETWEEN THE NEIGHBORS.

Phillip Jenkins: "I said, if ya'll leave this guy here, there's been a 25 year feud going on with this neighbor, he's gonna hurt himself or he's gonna hrt somebody next door today, I'll assure you."

THAT NIGHT... WHEN DEPUTIES ARRIVED AND FOUND MOORE ARMED AND STANDING OVER MITCHEM'S BODY... A DEPUTY FATALLY SHOT MOORE... AFTER THEY SAY HE POINTED THE GUN IN THEIR DIRECTION.

MOORE'S FRIENDS SAY IT WAS THE RESULT OF A HISTORY OF MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES... AND A STANDING FEUD BETWEEN THE NEIGHBORS.

BUT AS AMY AUBERT EXPLAINS... THOSE CLOSEST TO HENRY MITCHEM SAY HE DIDN'T HAVE AN ONGOING ARGUMENT... WITH THE ALLEGED SHOOTER.

Keith Mitchem, Macon: "I don't know whether Daddy opened the door or he kicked the door open."

THESE MARKS... KEITH MITCHEM SAYS... ETCH A NIGHTMARE... OF THURSDAY'S SHOOTINGS.

Keith Mitchem: "Disbelief. I miss my Daddy."

HIS FATHER... 75-YEAR-OLD HENRY MITCHEM... BETTER KNOWN AS "BUBBA"... WAS SHOT TO DEATH IN HIS HOME.

Keith Mitchem: "He was my best friend. Never bothered anybody, just kept to himself."

MITCHEM SAYS HE GREW UP IN THIS HOUSE ON BROOKHAVEN ROAD... HIS FATHER BOUGHT IT IN THE 60'S.

HE SAYS A FENCE SEPARATING THE FAMILY'S PROPERTY FROM 65-YEAR-OLD GLEN MOORE'S... DIDN'T KEEP OUT A HISTORY OF PROBLEMS.

Keith Mitchem: "Daddy's never bothered Glen. Never done anything to him except call the sheriff on him."

HE SAYS HIS FATHER ONLY TRIED TO PROTECT HIS OWN HOME... WHEN HE FELT THREATENED.

Keith Mitchem: "Every once in a while Glen might be standing out in the road you know, yelling at the house, and Daddy would come out to his front porch and make a comment, tell him to go home and leave him alone, and he was calling the sheriff. But that was about it. They never had an altercation."

Angela Hirschinger, Macon: "This had nothing to do with a feud."

ANGELA HIRSCHINGER SAYS THE SHOOTING DIDN'T STEM FROM A SINGLE ISSUE... JUST PROBLEMS THAT HAVE GROWN WITH TIME.

SHE BLAMES THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT FOR NOT GETTING MOORE THE HELP HE NEEDED... WHEN THEY WERE CALLED TO HIS HOME EARLIER THAT SAME DAY.

Angela: "None of this would've happened, Bubba would be here today."

FRIENDS AND FAMILY SAY THEY'RE VICTIMS OF A TRAGEDY... DIVIDED BY A SITUATION THEY SAY... COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.

E-M-S OFFICIALS AND DEPUTIES CAME TO MOORE'S HOME THURSDAY AFTERNOON... BECAUSE FRIENDS AND FAMILY WERE WORRIED ABOUT HIS HEALTH.
