BIBB COUNTY CORONER LEON JONES SAYS 31-YEAR OLD ALENIO CULVER WAS SHOT IN HIS CHEST JUST AFTER 2 P-M TODAY...
JONES SAYS CULVER WAS FOUND IN HIS PARKED CAR... ON LITTLE SHORT STREET.. BETWEEN COWAN AND HALL STREETS IN EAST MACON...
HE SAYS MACON POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE HOMICIDE...

THE NEW COLLEGE HILL... BEAR TRAIL IN MACON... LOST A MEMBER OF THE PACK EARLIER TODAY...
TWO MERCER UNIVERSITY STUDENTS STOLE AND DAMAGED ONE OF THE NEW BEAR STATUES.... THAT'S ACCORDING TO JONATHAN DYE WITH MACON ARTS ALLIANCE...
DYE SAID IT HAPPENED AROUND 12:30 THIS MORNING....
MERCER POLICE DETAINED THE STUDENTS ALONG WITH THE STOLEN FIBERGLASS BEAR.....
DYE SAID THE CASE HAS BEEN TURNED OVER TO THE MACON POLICE DEPARTMENT.... WHERE IT'S STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION....
HE SAID NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED.....
THE TWO STUDENTS NAMES HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED....
MACON ARTS ALLIANCE AND SEVERAL OTHER GROUPS WORKED ON THE BEAR TRAIL PROJECT... WHICH WAS DEDICATED EARLIER THIS WEEK....
THE SIX BEARS WHERE PUT UP IN THE COLLEGE HILLS AREA.... WITH ONE MORE TO BE SET UP AT MERCER UNIVERSITY

ACROSS THE COUNTRY TODAY... PEOPLE JOINED IN THE ANNUAL "TAKE BACK" EVENT... WHICH GIVES THEM SAFE WAY TO GET RID OF THEIR EXPIRED... UNUSED... OR UNWANTED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS.
THE BIBB COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE PARTNERED WITH THE DRUG ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION...
THEY SET UP IN THE WALMART PARKING LOT ON ZEBULON ROAD.... FOR COLLECTIONS...
THE GOAL... TO DECREASE PILL ABUSE... AND RID HOMES OF POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS EXPIRED DRUGS.
DEPUTY JEFF SULLIVAN EXPLAINS WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT TO SAFELY DISPOSE OF PRESCRIPTIONS.

Deputy Jeff Sullivan Bibb County Sheriff Office:"They'll be turned over to the DEA and disposed of properly It's better to do it this way instead of flushing it down the toilet because if you flush it down the toilet, because if you flush it down the toilet it ends up in the water system."

MATT ARTHUR COUNSELOR... LAURA MELNICK SAYS SHE STARTED HER BIG KNIGHT LITTLE KNIGHT PROGRAM SEVEN YEARS AGO... BEFORE PARTERNING WITH ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE.

Laura Melnick, School Counselor: "I understand the impact it has I think it's very hard on the children to be expected to learn math and reading when their hearts hurting and a parent is missing."

DARLEY SAYS IT'S HARDER FOR YOUNG KIDS TO UNDERSTAND.

Lesley Darley:" He raised his hand and said my dad is is at the airport you know he still had not made that connection that his parent was fighting for our freedom."

DAYNA'S MOTHER... DASHANA STEPHENS SAYS HER HUSBAND OPERATES CRANES IN AFGHANISTAN AND ONLY COMES HOME THREE WEEKS AT A TIME.

Dashana Stephens: " Just make use of every minute it gets harder and harder to drop him off at the airport."

Jennifer Moulliet: "Stephens says everytime her husband goes back over seas she looks to her community and she says she couldn't do it without their support."

Dashana Stephens: " We do what we have to do and the support in this community is fantastic between friends and family the church."

STEPHENS SAYS DARLEY'S DEPLOYMENT SUPPORT GROUP HELPS HER DAUGHTER COPE.

Dashana Stephens: " She made a cofffe mug for him the other day and we put it in a box to send to him and he says that just makes me feel good."

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE PACKED THE STREETS OF DOWNTOWN EATONTON TODAY... FOR THE THIRD ANNUAL BRIAR PATCH FESTIVAL....
OVER 80 VENDERS TRAVELED FROM ALL ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST... TO SHOW OFF THEIR UNIQUE CRAFTS.....
THE FESTIVAL MARKED THE LAST DAY.... OF A WEEK FULL OF FUN IN EATONTON.... WHICH INCLUDED SPOOKY TOURS AROUND TOWN AND A SHOW AT THE UNCLE REMUS MUSEUM....
MUSIC... CRAFTS... AND OTHER ACTIVITIES GAVE FOLKS ANOTHER CHANCE TO COME OUT AND SUPPORT THEIR COMMUNITY

Katy Smith, Organizer "It's a way for us to promote the community within the community but also to our surrounding communities. Inviting people to see the merchants downtown and the things that we do have to offer in Eatonton. Also it's one of Eatonton Mainstreet's biggest money makers which then in turn allows us to do more things for our downtown."
Roseanne Fielder, Vendor "Its really grown. This year they have vendors all around the courthouse. The first year it was pretty small."
ORGANIZERS SAY THEY EXPECT THE FESTIVAL TO KEEP GROWING EVERY YEAR WITH MORE VENDORS AND ACTIVITIES.
