GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.. I'M LEAH JOHNSON..THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.

AMERICAN TROOPS WILL BE HOME FROM IRAQ BY THE END OF THE YEAR.
SPEAKING AT THE WHITE HOUSE THIS AFTERNOON... PRESIDENT OBAMA SAID AFTER NEARLY NINE YEARS... AMERICA'S WAR IN IRAQ WOULD BE OVER AND ALL 40 THOUSAND TROOPS THERE WILL BE HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS.
"Over the next two months, our troops in Iraq, tens of thousands of them, will pack up their gear and board convoys for the journey home. The last American soldiers will cross the border out of Iraq with their heads held high, proud of their success, and knowing that the American people stand united in their support for our troops. That is how America's military efforts in Iraq will end."
LET'S LOOK AT A BRIEF TIMELINE FOR THE IRAQ WAR....
The bombing of Baghdad began on March 20, 2003. Grounds troops also moved in, beginning an occupation that would last for years.
Two and a half months later, President Bush took to the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln and announced "mission accomplished".
In December 2003, forces captured Saddam Hussein. He would be hanged three years later.
In April of 2004, images from the Abu Ghraib prison show US troops torturing and abusing Iraqi prisoners.
December 2005... President Bush says the decision to invade Iraq was the result of faulty intelligence, but maintains the decision was justified.
In January 2007, President Bush announces the surge ... 20,000 more troops will be heading to Iraq.
Two years ago IN JANUARY 2009, the U-S hands of control of the Green Zone to the Iraqis. That same month, the US embassy opens in Baghdad.
LAST AUGUST, President Obama announced the end of Operation Iraqi Freedom, which is the end of combat operations.
And today, he announced all US troops will be out of Iraq by the end of the year.
AFTER THE PRESIDENT'S STATEMENT... THE WHITE HOUSE'S DEPUTY SECURITY ADVISOR SAID IRAQ IS SECURE... STABLE... AND SELF-RELIANT.
When the president laid out a vision for the future of Iraq in February 2009 down in Camp Lejeune, many of you were there, he said what we're looking for is an Iraq that's secure, stable and self- reliant, and that's exactly what we got here. So there's no question this is a success.
UNDER A DEAL STRUCK BETWEEN THE U.S. AND IRAQ IN 2008 WHEN GEORGE W. BUSH WAS PRESIDENT... ALL TROOPS WERE TO LEAVE IRAQ BY THE END OF 2011.

ONE OF THEM... SERGEANT JOSH BREWER SAYS HE SUPPLIED THE CAMERA FOR THE HOAX.
BREWER SAYS IF THE PUNISHMENT STAYS... IT COULD TAKE HIM FOUR YEARS TO GET BACK TO HIS CURRENT POSITION... AND OVER THE COURSE OF HIS CAREER... IT COULD COST HIM 24 TO 26 GRAND.
Josh Brewer: "You know, I put a lot of hard work and a lot of hard effort into getting where I was as quickly as I had. You know, it's pretty demoralizing for to be demoted and for as hard as I've worked to get it over something like this."

THE OTHER THREE FIREFIGHTERS WHO FILED FOR APPEALS... SAY THEY HAVEN'T BEEN GIVEN A HEARING DATE YET.

MORE BIBB COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOLERS COULD BE COLLEGE-BOUND... THANKS TO A 2-POINT-8 MILLION DOLLAR FEDERAL GRANT.
THE GEAR UP GRANT WILL PAY FOR SERVICES AND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 36-HUNDRED SIXTH AND SEVENTH GRADERS IN THE DISTRICT.
THE SERVICES WILL INCLUDE TUTORING... SATURDAY AND SUMMER ACTIVITIES AND COLLEGE VISITS.
THE DISTRICT WOULD HAVE TO SHOW ITS PROGRESS WITH THE PROGRAM IN ORDER TO RECEIVE MORE MONEY EACH YEAR.
OVER THE NEXT SEVEN YEARS... THE SYSTEM COULD RECEIVE MORE THAN 19 MILLION DOLLARS.
THE DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT SAYS THE GOAL IS TO LEARN FROM THE PROGRAM.
"What we're hooping is that what we learn through the implementation of this grant is something that we might be able to continue to replicate in years beyond that."
BIBB COUNTY WAS THE ONLY SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE STATE TO RECEIVE THE GRANT.
THE DISTRICT HASN'T DECIDED YET HOW TO PICK STUDENTS TO TAKE PART IN THE PROGRAM.

TWO BUTTS COUNTY MEN ARE LIVING THEIR DREAM...OF STARTING UP AN OLD-FASHIONED SOUTHERN DISTILLERY.
WE WENT TO THEIR NEW MLLEDGVILLE PLANT TO SEE WHY THEY SAY THEY'VE GOT MOONSHINE IN THEIR BLOOD.
A SECRET RECIPE SIMMERS TOGETHER IN THIS LARGE VAT.

sot: We're actually making moonshine from a multi-generational recipe that people have made sitting on a creek, selling it illegal. This is the same recipe. This is authentic moonshine.

THE FINISHED PRODUCT WILL FILL THESE GLASS CONTAINERS AND THEN SHIP OFF. IT'S THE FIRST LARGE ORDER HERE AT THE GEORGIA DISTILLING COMPANY IN MILLEDGEVILLE.

sot: We're making a moonshine and a vodka for country music singer Colt Ford.

CO-OWNER SHAWN HALL SAYS HE AND HIS PARTNER BILL MAULDIN HAVE A FAMILY HISTORY OF BOOTLEGGERS.

sot: Moonshine is a name given to an untaxed paid spirit. It was made under the light of the moon.

THAT FAMILY HISTORY.... NOW BOTTLED UP HE SAYS.... IS A WINNER WITH CUSTOMERS.

sot: This is a genuine as it gets and the feedback that we've had has been really great because people taste it and say, "How can you do this legally?" It's legal! We're paying taxes on every bit of this stuff but we're just making an authetic moonshine but it's legal.

THE TWO PARTNERS ARE NEIGHBORS IN BUTTS COUNTY. THEY STARTED PLANNING TWO YEARS AGO....FIRST LOOKING IN JACKSON....THEN IN JONES COUNTY....AND FINALLY LANDING IN MILLEDGEVILLE. NOW HE SAYS THEIR FOCUS IS KEEPING UP WITH DEMAND.

sot: We're still getting equipment piped in and everything up to speed. We need our cookers up for that. As soon as we can we are bringing cookers online to start cooking grain and producing our brown spirits, single malt rise and bourbon.

SOUND
HALL SAYS THEY'RE NOW DISTRIBUTING THEIR PRODUCTS IN GEORGIA AND TENNESSEE...AND HOPE SOON TO SHIP TO STATES AROUND THE SOUTHEAST....AND BEYOND.
