ANOTHER BANK HAS CLOSED ITS DOORS IN CENTRAL GEORGIA.... BRINGING THE TOTAL NUMBER OF U.S. FAILED BANKS TO 77.
REGULATORS HAVE CLOSED A SMALL BANK IN GRAY.
THE FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION ON FRIDAY SEIZED PIEDMONT COMMUNITY BANK OF GRAY WITH 201.7 MILLION DOLLARS IN ASSETS AND MORE THAN 181 MILLION DOLLARS IN DEPOSITS.
AN FDIC NEWS RELEASE SAYS PIEDMONT'S BRANCHES WILL REOPEN SATURDAY AS STATE BANK AND TRUST... WHICH ALREADY OWNS A NEARBY BANK IN GRAY.
THE FAILURE OF PIEDMONT COMMUNITY BANK IS EXPECTED TO COST THE DEPOSIT INSURANCE FUND $71.6 MILLION DOLLARS.

SOME PEOPLE IN WILCOX COUNTY ARE PICKING UP THE PIECES AFTER YESTERDAY'S STRONG STORMS.
CAPTAIN CODY BEECHER WITH THE ROCHELLE POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS DAMAGE RANGED FROM TREES DOWN ON SIDE ROADS... TO DAMAGED HOUSES AND VEHICLES.
JENNIFER MOULLIET TALKED WITH ONE FAMILY ABOUT THE DAMAGE TO THEIR HOME.
"IT WAS LIKE A SONIC BOOM"
BODEE MCWHORTER WAS WATCHING CARTOONS WITH HIS GRANDFATHER AT THEIR CERCER STREET HOME THURSDAY AFTERNOON WHEN HE SAYS THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENED.
"THE ROOF LIKE COLLAPSED DOWN"
BODEES GRANDFATHER BOBBY NORTH HAS BEEN THE DEPUTY SHERIFF IN WILCOX CO FOR 17 YEARS AND SAYS HE HAD JUST FIXED HIS GRAND KIDS A SNACK WHEN HE LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW.
"BASEBALL SIZE HAIL WAS FALLING AND TREE LIMBS AND THEN WE HEARD A BIG BOOM."
NORTH SAYS AT FIRST HE THOUGHT THE POWER HAD BLOWN.
"I THOUGHT IT WAS SMOKE BUT IT WAS WHERE THE TREE HAD FALLEN."
THE TREE CAME THROUGH THE ROOF IN THREE DIFFERENT ROOMS...BUT NOT IN THE LIVING ROOM...WHERE THEY WERE SITTING.
STAND UP: "NORTH SAYS HE'S NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE HE SAW THURSDAY NIGHT AND HE'S GLAD HIS FAMILY IS SAFE."
"FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS IN HERE."
BETH NORTH SAYS SHE HAS LIVED IN THE HOUSE WITH HER HUSBAND BOBBY OVER 15 YEARS.
"WE HAVEN'T HAD ANYTHING THIS BAD SINCE WE'VE BEEN HERE, STUFF WAS JUST WHIRLING EVERYWHERE."
SHE SAYS THE DAMAGE WILL BE APPRAISED MONDAY BUT SHE DOESNT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO UNTIL THEN.

THE STORM ALSO DESTROYED THE FORMER KRAMER UNITED METHODIST CHURCH ON KRAMER CHURCH ROAD NEAR ROCHELLE.
THE CHURCH WAS BUILT IN 1911 AND CLOSED ITS DOORS IN THE 1980s.
87-YEAR-OLD JAMES LEE OWNS ABOUT 500 ACRES... INCLUDING THE BUILDING.
LEE SAYS HE USED IT FOR STORAGE.
James Lee, Owner of Kramer Methodist church: "I'm happy that nobody got hurt we can always rebuild or whatever but to live is what it's all about."
HIGH WINDS ALSO KNOCKED OVER A GAS PUMP AT THE MARATHON STATION ON MAIN STREET IN ROCHELLE.

THE STORMS ALSO MOVED THROUGH HOUSTON COUNTY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON... PROMPTING EMERGENCY OFFICIALS TO SOUND THE SIRENS AT THE GEORGIA NATIONAL FAIRGROUNDS IN PERRY.
E-M-A DIRECTOR JIMMY WILLIAMS SAYS HE MADE THE CALL TO SOUND THE ALERT... ALONG WITH FAIRGROUND MANAGERS.
WILLIAMS SAYS THEY ISSUED AT LEAST SEVEN VERBAL ALERTS OVER THE LOUD SPEAKERS TO FAIRGOERS.
THOSE WARNED PEOPLE THAT HIGH WINDS AND RAIN WOULD ARRIVE IN PERRY... WITHIN THE NEXT THIRTY MINUTES.
HE SAYS WHEN THE STORMS ACTUALLY GOT THERE... THEY SOUNDED THE FAIRGROUNDS ONE HAZARD SIREN... LETTING PEOPLE KNOW TO TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY.
Jimmy Williams, EMA Director:(45:48) "The National Weather Service was indicating a storm that had winds of 45-55 miles per hour. When you get that with tents and other things around, that many people out in the open, we decided to clear the fairgrounds and get them into protective buildings."
WILLIAMS SAYS THEY OPENED ALL OF THE BUILDINGS AT THE FAIRGROUNDS FOR SHELTER... AND THAT THE CROWDS MOVED INDOORS WITHOUT PROBLEMS.
HE SAYS THE SIRENS WILL BE TESTED EVERYWHERE IN HOUSTON COUNTY TOMORROW AT NOON... INCLUDING THE FAIRGROUNDS.

CITY RECREATION DIRECTOR DOC DAUGHERTY SAYS A MEMBER OF THE PROTEST APPLIED FOR A PERMIT LATE THIS AFTERNOON.
HE SAYS THE PERMIT CALLS FOR A PROTEST STARTING AT NOON AT THE DOWNTOWN THIRD STREEET PARK.
THEY SAY THEY EXPECT ABOUT 50 PEOPLE.
DAUGHERTY SAYS IT'S A ONE-DAY PERMIT.. AND THAT HE'S WARNED OCCUPY MACON THAT SLEEPOVERS IN THE PARK ARE NOT ALLOWED.

SHE TESTIFIED AGAINST DENNIS GRIMES... AND HELPED PUT HIM BEHIND BARS FOR LIFE FOR KILLING RONNIE DAVIS.
DUNCAN SAYS... DESPITE THE TROUBLE SHE HAD... SHE'D DO IT AGAIN.

JESSE WHITE AND STEPHANIE BURKE FILED AN APPEAL THIS WEEK.
MURPHEY SAYS THE TWO MUST MAKE THEIR CASE BEFORE AN ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGE WITHIN 20 DAYS.
CHRIS HUGHES AND JOSHUA BREWER PREVIOUSLY APPEALED THEIR PUNISHMENTS.

MACON AND BIBB COUNTY LEADERS SAY PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE THE COUNTY WILL PAY FOR MOST OF A PROPOSED PENNY SALES TAX.
THEY SAY THAT'S BASED ON A MERCER UNIVERSITY STUDY THAT COUNTED PARKING TAGS AT SEVERAL BIBB COUNTY SHOPPING AREAS BETWEEN OCTOBER FIRST AND SEVENTH.
