A FIGHT AT WESTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL THIS MORNING PUT THE SCHOOL IN LOCKDOWN FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR AND A HALF...
WESTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL IS OFF HEATH ROAD IN BIBB COUNTY.
AS ELEANOR LISSITZYN EXPLAINS... A DISRUPTION IN THE CAFETERIA SET OFF A SERIES OF EVENTS... THAT LEFT TWO ADULTS ARRESTED... AND ABOUT TEN STUDENTS PEPPER SPRAYED.
WESTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL WENT TO LOCK DOWN AND TWO PARENTS WERE ARRESTED THURSDAY... AFTER TWO FIGHTS BROKE OUT AT THE SCHOOL.
SCHOOL SPOKESMAN CHRIS FLOORE SAYS THE FIRST BROKE OUT AT AROUND SEVEN FIFTEEN IN THE CAFETERIA... HE SAYS ABOUT TEN STUDENTS WERE INVOLVED... MOSTLY GIRLS....AND IT ONLY LASTED ABOUT A MINUTE AND A HALF.
FLOORE SAYS CAMPUS POLICE USED PEPPER SPRAY ON THE STUDENTS IN THE FIGHT... BUT HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW MANY OTHER STUDENTS IN THE CAFETERIA COULD HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO IT.
WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE SCHOOL AT AROUND TEN O'OCLOCK THIS MORNING... SEVERAL CAMPUS POLICE OFFICERS AND AN AMBULANCE WERE OUTSIDE.
FLOORE SAYS THEY SUSPENDED SEVERAL STUDENTS AND ALSO SENT SOME OTHERS HOME. THEY WERE WAITING FOR PARENTS TO PICK THEM UP IN THE PARKING LOT....WHEN THE SECOND FIGHT BROKE OUT.
FLOORE SAYS TWO ADULTS GOT INVOLVED...AND TWO OF THEM WERE ARRESTED FOR DISORDERLY CONDUCT AND DISRUPTING A SCHOOL.
THEN ONE PARENT COMPLAINED OF CHEST PAINS AND THE SCHOOL CALLED AN AMBLUANCE... BUT FLOORE SAYS THEY'RE NOT SURE IF IT WAS A RESULT OF THE FIGHT.
THERE ARE VIDEO CAMERAS BOTH IN AND OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL AND FLOORE SAYS THEY'LL REVIEW THEM TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.
A GRANDMOTHER OF A WESTSIDE STUDENT SAYS TODAY'S FIGHT IS THE LATEST IN A SERIES OF BULLYING PROBLEMS AT THE SCHOOL.
SHE SAYS HER GRANDAUGHTER WAS THE TARGET TODAY.
CYNTHIA TOLBERT SAYS A GANG OF GIRLS HAVE BEEN HARRASSING HER GRANDAUGHTER AND OTHERS FOR WEEKS.
TOLBERT SAYS HER DAUGHTER VISITED THE SCHOOL SEVERAL TIMES TO TRY TO GET SOMEONE TO PUT A STOP TO IT.
BUT SHE SAYS SO FAR THERE'S BEEN NO RELIEF.
"My daughter went to the school Monday. They were supposed to nip it in the bud. She done been to school four times about this incident, they supposed to nip it in the bud. It's like they got a no policy, don't do, won't tell. You know they looking the other way for some reason, until somebody get killed. And that's why I here to make a stand so don't nobody get killed."
WE ASKED CHRIS FLOORE ABOUT THE GRANDMOTHER'S COMPLAINTS ABOUT BULLYING..HE SAID HE COULD NOT COMMENT.
