GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US..
I'M FRANK MALLOY.... THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.

A MACON-BIBB FIRE CAPTAIN WILL BE DEMOTED TO LIEUTENANT AS THE FALLOUT CONTINUES FROM A HROOKIE-HAZING STUNT FILMED AT A FIRE STATION.
MAYORAL SPOKESMAN CLAY MURPHEY SAYS LIEUTENANT STEPHANIE BURKE....WILL ALSO BE SUSPENDED FOR 20 SHIFTS. THAT'S THE EQUIVALENT OF 60 DAYS' PAY.
LEAH JOHNSON HAS MORE.
MURPHEY SAID BURKE IS ACCUSED OF BREACH OF DISCIPLINE...AND DERELICTION OF DUTY...FOR FAILING TO STOP THE PRANK....THAT BECAME A VIRAL VIDEO.
IN THAT VIDEO...A MASKED GUNMAN ENTERED FIRE STATION 108...ROUGHED UP SOME FIREFIGHTERS...AND APPEARED TO FIRE A SHOT..... BUT IT WAS ALL A HOAX.
BURKE'S PUNISHMENT IS MUCH MORE SEVERE THAN WHAT FIRE CHIEF MARVIN RIGGINS ANNOUNCED LAST WEEK. ORIGINALLY SHE GOT JUST A TWO-SHIFT SUSPENSION...AND NO DEMOTION.
MURPHEY SAID THE NEW PENALTY IS HARSHER....BECAUSE RIGGINS HAS NEW EVIDENCE THAT BURKE MAY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE SHOOTING IN ADVANCE.
HE SAID SHE DENIES THAT...BUT THAT RIGGINS STILL BELIEVED BURKE KNEW ENOUGH TO PREVENT IT.
RIGGINS' RULING THURSDAY ALSO UPHELD THE FIRING OF FIREFIGHTER CHRISTOPHER HUGHES....EFFECTIVE THURSDAY ... AND SUSPENSIONS FOR SEVERAL OTHERS.
THEY ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO APPEAL TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGE.
JUST ONE OF THEM....FIREFIGHTER HUGHES...CAN APPEAL TO MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT IF HE'S NOT SATISIFIED WITH THE JUDGE'S DECISION.
FRANK?
HUGHES FACES FIRING....FOR ALLEGEDLY PROVIDING THE GUN USED IN THE VIDEO.
CHIEF RIGGINS DID NOT RETURN OUR PHONE CALL...AND MURPHEY SAYS THE CHIEF WILL NOT COMMENT FURTHER.

A TRACTOR TRAILER CAUGHT FIRE ALONG INTERSTATE 475 TONIGHT...
THAT'S ACCORDING TO THE MACON-BIBB FIRE DEPARTMENT.
CREWS ASSISTED THE MONROE COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT NEAR THE BOLINGBROKE EXIT TO
EXSTINGUISH THE TRAILER WHICH WAS FILLED WITH MULCH.
IT HAPPENED AROUND 9PM.
THIS VIDEO WAS TAKEN BY 13WMAZ VIEWER TRACY GOODE.
TRACEY EMAILED THIS VIDEO TO US. AS OF 10:30 TONIGHT CREWS WERE STILL WORKING THE FIRE AND ASSITING WITH TRAFFIC IN THE AREA.
NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.
REMEMBER.. IF YOU SEE NEWS HAPPENING...TAKE A PICTURE OR GET VIDEO AND SENT IT TO US AT EYEWITNESSNEWS@13WMAZ.COM..
