THE SUPREME COURT REJECTED AN ELEVENTH HOUR APPEAL FROM CONDEMNED INMATE TROY DAVIS TONIGHT.
THE APPEAL WOULD HAVE KEPT OFFICIALS FROM EXECUTING DAVIS FOR THE 1989 KILLING OF OFF-DUTY SAVANNAH POLICE OFFICER MARK MACPHAIL.
ELEANOR LISSITZYN IS AT THE GEORGIA DAIGNOSTIC AND CLASSIFICATION PRISON... THE STATE'S DEATH ROW... AND SHE'S JOINING US BY PHONE WITH THE LATEST.
THE SUPREME COURT PREVIOUSLY GRANTED DAVIS A STAY OF EXECUTION IN 2008... AND ORDERED A COURT HEARING THE FOLLOWING YEAR TO GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO ESTABLISH HIS INNOCENCE.
A FEDERAL JUDGE SAID DAVIS FAILED TO DO SO... AND THE JUSTICES REFUSED TO REVIEW THAT FINDING.

EIGHT MACON-BIBB FIREFIGHTERS WILL BE PUNISHED FOR A GUN-WIELDING HAZING PRANK THAT SHOWED UP ON YOUTUBE... AND ONE OF THEM COULD LOSE HIS JOB.
FIRE CHIEF MARVIN RIGGINS HANDED OUT PUNISHMENTS THAT INCLUDED A TERMINATION... SUSPENSIONS AND A REPRIMAND FOR A BATTALION COMMANDER.
FIREFIGHTER CHRISTOPHER HUGHES WAS SUSPENDED FOR FIVE DAYS... PENDING TERMINATION.
MACON MAYORAL SPOKESMAN CLAY MURPHEY SAYS THEY HAVEN'T IDENTIFIED THE MASKED GUNMAN IN THE VIDEO... BUT HE SAYS HUGHES PROVIDED THE GUN.
MURPHEY SAYS SERGEANT JOSH BREWER PROVIDED THE CAMERA.
BREWER WAS DEMOTED TO PRIVATE AND SUSPENDED FOR 30 DAYS WITHOUT PAY.
THREE OTHERS... CHRISTOPHER HOUSTON... MARK SWAIN AND JESSE WHITE... WERE ALSO SUSPENDED FOR A MONTH WITHOUT PAY.
CAPTAIN STEPHANIE BURKE WAS GIVEN A WEEK WITHOUT PAY.
LIEUTENANT TIMOTHY PRUITT RECEIVED A COUNSELING STATEMENT... AND BATTALION CHIEF JAMES WALLACE GOT A WRITTEN REPRIMAND.
MACON CITY COUNCILMAN LARRY SCHLESINGER SAYS HE APPLAUDS THE WAY THE DEPARTMENT HANDLED THE SITUATION.
"I have the the utmost respect for chief Riggins and Mayor Reichert for attending to this very swiftly, very promptly. They've really taken the bull by the horns and are dealing with it I think efficiently."

Fattal and Bauer - both 29 - looked healthy, but slimmer. They were released from a Tehran prison after being held for more than two years on spy charges.
A judge granted their release after a bail of one million dollars was paid for their freedom.

Also greeting the pair was fellow hiker Sarah Shourd. She was arrested too - but freed a year ago. Shourd embraced Bauer... Who proposed to her in prison.

Swiss and Omani diplomats helped facilitate the men's release, since the U.S. has no relations with Tehran. Bauer and Fattal were freed just minutes before President Obama addressed the United Nations General Assembly.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad promised last week the hikers' release was imminent. He's now preparing for his address at the U.N. on Thursday.
The hikers are expected to be back in the United States in a matter of days.
