FOUR SHOOTINGS WOUNDED AT LEAST EIGHT MEN LAST NIGHT AND EARLY THIS MORNING.
LET'S TAKE YOU STRAIGHT TO ELEANOR LISSITZYN ON BERKNER AVENUE OFF MERCER UNIVERSITY DRIVE.
THE HOME I'M STANDING IN FRONT OF ON BERKNER AVENUE IS WHERE SIX PEOPLE WERE SHOT.
POLICE SAY THEY BELIEVE IT HAPPENED AT A PARTY CELEBRATING THE BIRTHDAY OF THE CRIPS GANG.
THERE WERE THREE OTHER SHOOTINGS IN MACON.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT THE MAP.
AROUND MIDNIGHT LAST NIGHT.
A 26 YEAR OLD MAN WAS SHOT TWICE IN THE HIP AND SHOULDER.
THE SECOND SHOOTING HAPPEND HERE ON BERKNER AVENUE.
THAT'S WHERE POLICE SAY A SOMEONE FIRED FROM A CAR... INTO A CROWD OF MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED... WOUNDING SIX.
THE THIRD ONE WAS ON ELL STREET AND ABOUT THREE THIRTY A.M... IT WAS ALSO A DRIVE BY SHOOTING.
POLICE SAY THE FOURTH SHOOTING WAS ON MOSLEY STREET JUST AFTER THREE THIRTY... WHERE SOMEONE FIRED SHOTS INTO A HOUSE.
NO ONE WAS INJURED THERE... AND NO ONE DIED IN ANY OF THOSE SHOOTINGS.
WE TRIED TO TALK TO THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE ABOUT LAST NIGHT... TENANTS HAVE COME AND GONE FROM THIS HOME ALL DAY... BUT NO ONE ANSWERED THE DOOR.
STEVE RICE OWNS THE HOME... AND STOPPED BY TO SPEAK WITH HIS TENANTS TODAY.
Steve Rice: "She said they were out here minding their own business cooking out and somebody showed up and started shooting. They have no idea who it is.
Eleanor Lissitzyn: "Did she describe to you how many people were out here?"
Steve Rice: "No she didn't tell me"
Eleanor Lissitzyn: "But you're standing by, you don't believe these people were involved in a gang?"
Steve Rice: "No they're not involved at all."
RICE INSISTS HIS TENANTS AREN'T GANG MEMBERS... BUT HE DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE OTHER PEOPLE AT THE PARTY.
A POLICE REPORT FROM LAST NIGHT'S INCIDENTS REFERENCES THE DATE... NINE TWELVE... AS BEING SIGNIFICANT.
IT'S THE BIRTHDAY OF THE CRIPS GANG.
LATER IN THE SHOW WE'LL SPEAK WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCE WITH GANGS IN MACON... RAPPER SONNY SPOON.... LORRA?

THANK YOU ELEANOR... WE'LL CHECK BACK WITH YOU LATER.
THE WAVE OF VIOLENCE HAS PROMPTED LOCAL AND AT LEAST ONE FEDERAL LEADER INTO ACTION.
U-S ATTORNEY TO MIDDLE GEORGIA MICHAEL MOORE SAYS HE MET WITH MACON'S MAYOR LAST WEEK FOR ONE-ON-ONE DISCUSSION ABOUT CURBING CRIME.
HE'S JOINING US NOW.

- What was the primary purpose of that meeting with Mayor Reichert?

- What measures did you talk about that target the problem?

- You mentioned a program that would allow MPD to work with the Bureau of Alchol, Tobacco and Firearms or ATF. How that would help?

- You say we shouldn't overreact to the situation, but "react to the right people?" What do you mean by that?

- The US Attorneys office is part of a gang task force... Who else is a partner in that, and what does the task force do?

LET'S GO BACK TO ELEANOR LISSITZYN ON BERKNER AVENUE.
I'M HERE WITH MACON NATIVE RAPPER SONNY SPOON.
SONNY GREW UP IN MACON... SERVED SIX YEARS IN PRISON ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES.
GOT OUT AND DECIDED TO TURN HIS LIFE AROUND.
NOW... YOU'RE INVOLVED IN TRYING TO KEEP KIDS FROM MAKING SIMILAR MISTAKES.
THANK YOU ELEANOR.
IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THE SHOOTINGS... YOU CAN CALL MACON REGIONAL CRIMESTOPPERS AT 1-877-68-CRIME.
AGAIN... 877-68-CRIME.

WHY DO KIDS GET INTO GANGS?
WHATS THE ATTRACTION?
WHAT STEPS CAN CITY/POLICE TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING?
DO YOU THINK RETALIATION TONIGHT?

RECAPPING TONIGHT'S TOP STORY.... TWO WEEKS AFTER A SERIES OF GANG RELATED TEEN SHOOTINGS... POLICE SAY THEY THINK GANG VIOLENCE CROPPED UP AGAIN... LEAVING EIGHT PEOPLE INJURED FOUR SHOOTING INCIDENTS LAST NIGHT.
