GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US..
I'M FRANK MALLOY..
THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.

CURRENT STATE PLANS FOR THE HIGHWAY 96 WIDENING IN SOUTH HOUSTON COUNTY COULD DESTROY AT LEAST FIVE HOMES.
THAT'S ACCORDING TO STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SPOKESWOMAN KIMBERLY LARSON.
IN A MEETING THIS AFTERNOON... SOME HOMEOWNERS SAY THEY THINK FORMER GOVERNOR SONNY PERDUE HAD A HAND IN THE PLANS FOR THE ROAD.
BUT... THE GOVERNOR SAYS WHILE PLANS DID MOVE FORWARD WHILE HE WAS IN OFFICE... IT WAS A DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION PROJECT AND HE HAD LITTLE TO DO WITH IT.
Former Governor Sonny Perdue: "I don't, again, not really impacted so I don't know that I can really have a standing and make a any statement at all. I am concerned about the people along the route who would lose their property and their frontage and portentially, their homes, though. Those are neighbors I have grown up with essentially all my life."
AMY AUBERT TALKED TO SOME HOMEOWNERS WHO WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE ROAD CONSTRUCTION... AMY?
<<
IN A CLOSED MEETING... THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MET WITH HOMEOWNERS WHO COULD BE AFFECTED BY THE PHASE TWO PART OF WIDENING HIGHWAY 96.
PHASE TWO MARKS THE AREA OF 96 FROM MOODY ROAD TO OLD HAWKINSVILLE ROAD.
KIMBERLY LARSON WITH THE GEORGIA D-O-T SAYS IN ADDITION TO THE FIVE HOMES LOST... THE 3.2 MILE STRETCH OF ROAD... WILL AFFECT 99 PROPERTIES.
ONE OF THOSE PROPERTIES... BELONGS TO RACHEL CRUMBLY AND HER HUSBAND DAVID... SHE SAYS THEY BUILT THEIR HOME BACK IN 19-68... AND NOW A STAKE MARKED A LITTLE MORE THAN 20 FEET FROM HER FRONT DOOR... SHOWS WHERE THE NEW ROAD WILL END.
OTHERS AT THE MEETING PASSED AROUND A PETITION... ARGUING THAT THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES TO TAKING THEIR PROPERTY.... SUCH AS EXPANDING THE ROAD IN OTHER AREAS.
THE MEETING GAVE HOMEOWNERS AND TENANTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE PROJECT.
LARSON SAYS THEY HAVEN'T GOTTEN MUCH NEGATIVE FEEDBACK... AND THEY'LL START MEETING PRIVATELY WITH THOSE AFFECTED IN A FEW MONTHS.
AMY AUBERT... 13 WMAZ... EYEWITNESS NEWS.

>> LARSON SAYS CONSTRUCTION FOR THE ROAD WIDENING PROJECT WILL BEGIN IN 2013.

A MAN WAS KILLED IN DODGE COUNTY THIS AFTERNOON AFTER A PICKUP TRUCK HIT THE SCOOTER CHAIR HE WAS RIDING IN.
COUNTY CORONER JOE SMITH SAYS THE 67-YEAR-OLD WAS HIT AT 5TH AND PINE STREETS IN EASTMAN AROUND 3-45.
SMITH SAID THE MAN DIED AT THE MEDICAL CENTER OF CENTRAL GEORGIA JUST BEFORE 7 P-M.
SMITH DID NOT RELEASE THE MAN'S NAME..

SOME MACON CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS SAY THEY'RE GENERALLY ON BOARD WITH THE MAYOR'S PLAN TO ENFORCE THE CITY'S TEEN CURFEW LAW... BUT THERE ARE STILL LOTS OF DETAILS TO WORK OUT.
THE CITY'S CURRENT LAW REQUIRES KIDS SIXTEEN AND UNDER TO BE OFF THE STREETS FROM MIDNIGHT TO FIVE A.M.
COUNCILMAN CHARLES JONES SAYS HE'S PROUD OF THE MAYOR'S EFFORT TO TAKE ACTION AND FIGHT VIOLENCE.
COUNCILWOMAN ELAINE LUCAS SAYS SHE'D LIKE TO SUPPORT THE EFFORT TOO... BUT WANTS TO MAKE SURE THE PLAN COVERS ALL THE BASES.
Jones: "At least he has a plan, he came up with it and I think what we have to do is not second guess his plan, but to give his plan the opportunity to work."
Lucas:"What we've got to do is identify where young people would be taken to wait for their parents, what would be reasonable limitations on it, or exceptions are far as work schedules."
THE MAYOR'S FOCUSED ON STOPPING TEEN VIOLENCE... AFTER SIX TEENS WERE RECENTLY SHOT WITHIN A WEEK.
