GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US..
I'M ELEANOR LISSITZYN... THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.

THE MURDER CASE AGAINST STEPHEN MCDANIEL WILL MOVE FORWARD... AFTER A JUDGE RULED THIS MORNING THERE IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO SEND THE CASE TO TRIAL.
MCDANIEL IS ACCUSED OF KILLING HIS FORMER NEIGHBOR AND MERCER LAW CLASSMATE LAUREN GIDDINGS.
DURING THE HEARING DISTRICT ATTORNEY GREG WINTERS QUESTIONED LEAD INVESTIGATOR DAVID PATTERSON ON EVIDENCE IN THE CASE...INCLUDING HOW OFFICERS FOUND THE BODY.
PATTERSON TALKED ABOUT HOW INVESTIGATORS FOUND GIDDINGS' TORSO IN A TRASH CAN OUTSIDE HER APARTMENT... AND THEN CALLED IN CADAVER SNIFFING DOGS.
GReg Winter: District attorney: "At that point did they begin a search
David PAtterson: They did."
Winters: Did they make any positive hits?
PAtterson: "They did"
Winters: "Where were those hits
Patterson: "Those hits were on Luaren Giddings Apartment, Mr. Mcdaniels apartment, the apatment below Lauren Giddings which would be aprtment and then they alerted on teh laudry room."
THAT'S THE LAUNDRY ROOM.. WHERE POLICE SAY THEY FOUND A HACKSAW.
BUT DEFENSE ATTORNEY FLOYD BUFORD SAYS POLICE HAVEN'T LINKED THAT SAW TO McDANIEL.
Floyd Buford: "in the warrent you metion that the hacksaw had DNA from Ms. Giddings on it right?
PAtterson: "Yes"
Buford: "Did the hacksaw have any DNa form Mr. Mcdaniel's?
Patterson :"Not that I''m aware of, no."
Buford: "have you gotten a report back from any law enforcement agency confirming that mr Mcdaniels' was not on the hacksaw, Ms Giddings hacksaw
PAtterson: "no"
Buford: "Giddings DNA was foudn on. Haven't gotten any report back?"
Patterso, No."
BUFORD ALSO SAYS A DEFENSE INVESTIGATOR... FOUND NEW EVIDENCE IN THE CASE... HE ASKED PATTERSON IF HE WAS AWARE THEY'D REVOVERED A PAIR OF BLUE PLASTIC GLOVES.
Buford: Have you been informed in the course of your investigation that this week there was found in the laundry room a pair of blue gloves that appeared to have blood stains on them, are you aware of that?
Patterson: No
Buford: Thank you
BUFORD ALSO TRIED TO GET THE CHARGES DISMISSED... SAYING PROSECUTORS HADN'T PROVIDED ENOUGH INFORMATION ON THE ARREST WARRANT.
HE SAYS IT DOESN'T DESCRIBE WHY MCDANIEL IS CHARGED WITH FELONY MURDER.
WINTERS SAYS THAT'S INFORMATION THAT SHOULD GO BEFORE A GRAND JURY.
BUT SEVERAL FAMILY MEMBERS OF LAUREN GIDDINGS ATTENDED THE HEARING... AND SAY THEY'RE ENCOURAGED BY THE JUDGE'S DECISION.
Kathy MAnn, Giddings COusin: "WE would have been very sad to think we were startign all over again so we're pleased with the progress. We're pleased with the DA."
SEVERAL RELATIVES WORE PINK SHIRTS AS THEY SAT IN THE SECOND ROW OF THE COURTROOM.
THEY SAY THE COLOR REMINDS THEM OF LAUREN.
Kathy MAnn, Cousin: "Pink was one of Lauren's favorite colors and she actually had a tradition at one of the law firms where she worked where they wore pink on Wednesday and if you wore pink on Wednesday you got to have cake for dessert, so Wednesday is really her pink day, but Lauren had so much pink that it is her color, so we will wear pink for her."
IN THE END... JUDGE WILLIAM SHURLING RULED THE THERE WAS ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO TAKE THE CASE TO A GRAND JURY.
STEPHEN MCDANIEL WAS DENIED BOND.
HE'S BEING HELD IN THE BIBB COUNTY JAIL.
