Nats, police car
IT'S AFTER TWO WESTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL TEENS WERE SHOT AROUND 6-30 WEDNESDAY MORNING.
POLICE DECLINED TO TALK ON CAMERA ABOUT THE SHOOTING.
Terry Sharp: "I just heard the gunshots, and I didn't know what to expect, I just thought some kids were playing around out here on my porch this morning. And then I heard one of them say, 'I can't get up, you gotta help me."
TERRY SHARP SAYS IT HAPPENED IN HER FRONT YARD.
ONE OF THE BOYS CAME TO HER FRONT STEP... THE OTHER... JUST ACROSS THE STREET... FOR HELP.
Muir Ferrier: "The boy was laying right here, his head was right there."
BUT NEIGHBORS WEREN'T THE ONLY ONES AT THE SCENE.
Christian Person, Macon: "I saw it when it happened, but I was shocked."
CHRISTIAN PERSON GOES TO SOUTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL... AND SAYS ABOUT 15 KIDS WERE AT THE BUS STOP... JUST A BLOCK AWAY.
Christian Person: "First we ran up the street, but then after the car drove off, we ran up to help."
SHARP SAYS IT'S A SHOOTING... THAT FOR HER... HAPPENED A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO HOME.
Terry Sharp: "When I opened up the door to see the boy laying on my front porch, I'm thinking this could've been my child, or my grandson. And most people these days don't wanna help people, but this is a child we're talking about."
SO FOR SOME NEIGHBORS... AND POLICE IN THE BLOOMFIELD AREA...
THEY'LL BE ON THEIR TOES... AT LEAST FOR THE TIME BEING.

MURDER SUSPECT STEPHEN MCDANIEL'S ATTORNEY SAYS HE'S CONCERNED FOR HIS HEALTH... AND SHOCKED AT NEW CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES.
MCDANIEL WAS BACK IN COURT TODAY... FOR HIS FIRST APPEARANCE ON THOSE SEVEN NEW COUNTS OF CHILD EXPLOITATION...
"Sir you have been charged with seven counts of child exploitation... do you understand the charges against you sir? We understand the charges."
ACCORDING TO THE ARREST WARRANTS... INVESTIGATORS FOUND PORNOGRAPHIC PICTURES OF CHILDREN ON A FLASH DRIVE IN MCDANIEL'S APARTMENT.
TODAY'S HEARING LASTED LESS THAN TEN MINUTES.
MCDANIEL ENTERED THE COURTROOM... THE JUDGE ASKED HIM IF HE UNDERSTOOD THE CHARGES... AND HE LEFT.
ONE OF THE MOST NOTABLE THINGS ... WAS MCDANIEL'S APPEARANCE.
MCDANIEL LOOKED STOOPED AND FRAIL... AS HE SHUFFLED INTO THE COURTROOM.
NURSES ACCOMPANIED HIM.
AND THE FORMER MERCER LAW STUDENT NEVER SPOKE... HIS ATTORNEY FLOYD BUFORD TOLD THE JUDGE THAT HIS CLIENT UNDERSTANDS THE CHARGES.
BUFORD SAYS MCDANIEL IS HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME IN JAIL.
HE'S LOST ABOUT SEVENTEEN POUNDS SINCE HE WAS ARRESTED JULY FIRST...SAYS HIS LAWYER... AND BUFORD SAYS HE'S CONCERNED ABOUT HIS EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH.
WE ALSO ASKED BUFORD ABOUT MCDANIEL'S REACTION TO THE NEW CHARGES... HERE'S SOME OF WHAT HE HAD TO SAY.
Floyd Buford: "Well I don't want to get into attorney client issues, but suffice it to say it was something that no one was expecting."
Eleanor Lissitzyn: "Does he deny that the material was his?"
Floyed Buford: "Well we enter a plea of not guilty on the charge at the time."
SAYS THEY VISIT MCDANIEL REGULARLY.
HE SAID THEY STAND BEHIND HIM AND HIS INNOCENCE 100 PERCENT.
THE JUDGE SET MCDANIEL'S COMMITMENT HEARING FOR THREE WEEKS FROM TODAY.
THAT'S WHEN A JUDGE WILL DECIDE IF THERE'S ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO SEND MCDANIEL TO TRIAL.
HE IS ALSO SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN COURT IN CONNECTION WITH THE GIDDINGS' MURDER ON FRIDAY.

C JACK ELLIS' MAYORAL CAMPAIGN ENDED A WEEK AGO... BUT THE FORMER TWO-TERM MAYOR IS NOT GOING QUIETLY.
TODAY... AT A NEWS CONFERENCE... HE SAID HE MAY RUN AGAIN... IN 2015.
HE SAID HE'S FORMING A POLITICAL GROUP - WE ARE MACON - THAT WILL STAY ACTIVE IN FUTURE ELECTIONS.
AND HE CALLED ON THE COUNTY'S ELECTION SUPERVISOR... ELAINE CARR... TO RESIGN.
HE SAID CARR MADE A STATEMENT DURING OUR NEWSCAST THE NIGHT OF THE RUN-OFF ELECTION... THAT SHE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE OUTCOME OF THE ELECTION... AND HE SAYS THAT INDICATES BIAS.
C. Jack Ellis, Former Macon Mayor: "The supervisor of the board of elections stated approximately I think what the 5 o'clock uh segment of the news on this particular segment that she was concerned about the outcome of the mayor's race. Now why would that statement be made by the supervisor of the board of elections? She should only be concerned about making sure that there are no barriers to voting."
CARR DID NOT APPEAR IN OUR FIVE O'CLOCK NEWSCAST THAT DAY.. BUT OUR ELEANOR LISSITZYN INTERVIEWED CARR LIVE DURING OUR SIX O'CLOCK NEWSCAST.
HERE'S WHAT SHE SAID.
Eleanor Lissitzyn: "Yesterday I talked to a bunch of the candidates and they were really concerned a runoff can always be tricky, voters can be fickle, they can not show up the second time around, but you're saying that they've been pretty good?"
Elaine Carr: "That's right they kept their interest this time, people are really um concerned about who the mayor of Macon's gonna be and our new senate whose gonna represent us in Atlanta so this election kept it's interest."
WE ASKED CARR BY PHONE TODAY IF SHE SAID SHE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT WHO THE CITY'S NEXT MAYOR WOULD BE... SHE REPLIED... NO... AND SAID QUOTE...
"I TRY TO ALWAYS BE NONPARTISAN....I DON'T LIVE IN THE CITY OF MACON. I LIVE IN HOUSTON COUNTY. SO WHOEVER THE MAYOR IS, THAT REALLY DOESN'T AFFECT ME."
A MACON COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY PLANS TO BRING ABOUT TWO DOZEN NEW JOBS TO THE CITY.
