HELLO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR JOINING US. I'M FRANK MALLOY..THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX.

A PROPOSED CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING PLAN WOULD SPLIT BIBB COUNTY BETWEEN DISTRICTS NOW REPRESENTED BY AUSTIN SCOTT AND SANFORD BISHOP.
THAT'S ACCORDING TO A MAP RELEASED MONDAY BY THE GEORGIA HOUSE AND SENATE LEGISLATIVE AND CONGRESSIONAL REAPPORTIONMENT COMMITTEE
UNDER THE PLAN... BISHOP... A DEMOCRAT... WOULD GAIN MOST OF BIBB COUNTY... INCLUDING MOST OF MACON.
SCOTT WOULD REPRESENT THE MOSTLY REPUBLICAN SECTION OF THE COUNTY...INCLUDING PARTS OF NORTH MACON.
THE PLAN HAS NOT BEEN VOTED ON YET.
DARYL MORTON... CHAIRMAN OF THE BIBB COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY.... SAYS HE BELIEVES THE NEW LINE IS A WAY OF HELPING AUSTIN SCOTT KEEP HIS SEAT.
"i don't know that bibb county having two US representatives is necessarity a bad thing. That's an extra person who can addvocate for Middle Georgia, advocate for the base, things that are very important to us so an additional voice, particularly if it's promoting the area, is not necessarily a bad thing."
THE STATE GAINS A NEW SEAT NEXT YEAR DUE TO POPULATION GROWTH IN THE 2010 CENSUS.
UNDER THE PROPOSAL... THE NEW DISTRICT WILL COVER HALL COUNTY... HOME TO GOVERNOR NATHAN DEAL.

UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA POLITICAL SCIENCE ANALYST CHARLES BULLOCK IS JOINING US NOW BY PHONE WITH A LOOK AT HOW THE REDISTRICTING COULD CHANGE THE POLITICAL LANDSCAPE IN CONGRESS.
