GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US..
I'M FRANK MALLOY..THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.
MACON N-DOUBLE-A-C-P PRESIDENT DAVID BOOKER SAYS HE WILL NOT COMPLY WITH A LETTER FROM ELEVEN MEMBERS OF THE ORGANIZATION ASKING HIM TO RESIGN.
ACCORDING TO THE LETTER... MEMBERS ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE WAY BOOKER HAS BEEN TREATING NAACP MEMBERS... CALLING HIS BEHAVIOR "INTIMIDATING AND DISRESPECTFUL."
BOOKER SAYS THOSE MEMBERS DISAGREE WITH HIS TOUGH STYLE OF LEADERSHIP.
"We cannot runt his organization one day month. We have 18 standing committees. All those committees have a chairperson in that committee, and what has to happen is that chairperson is in a responsible position and that chairperson has a mission to achieve while he or she is in that position and i demand that they complete that mission. I'm srry if they uh have to owrk or the have kids and other things to do, I recognize that this is a volunteer-type organization, but the responsibilites are real. The time is real. and those positions have to be filled by responsible people."
BOOKER SAYS HE WILL WILL DISCUSS THE RESIGNATION REQUEST AT THE NEXT N-DOUBLE-A-C-P MEETING ON MONDAY.
A NEW BUSINESS PLANS TO TAP INTO AN INDUSTRY THAT THEY SAY WILL KEEP THE GLASSES HALF FULL IN MILLEDGEVILLE.
AS AMY AUBERT SHOWS YOU... IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME... BEFORE THE GEORGIA DISTILLING COMPANY... BOTTLE'S UP ITS FIRST PRODUCT.
Nats, lifting barrel on cart
IT'S NO LIGHT LOAD.
Nats: "This thing is heavy as all get out."
BUT FOR SHAWN HALL... TAPPING INTO CENTRAL GEORGIA'S FIRST DISTILLERY... MEANS A FLOW OF BUSINESS.
Shawn Hall, Co-Founder: "It's handcrafting something that people will enjoy and people can identify with."
HE'S NO STRANGER TO CREATING ALCOHOL... IT'S SOMETHING HE SAYS RUNS IN THE FAMILY.
Shawn Hall: "I got to listen to it all throughout my life, I got to hear the stories of it, the good, the bad. It's what they did."
BUT HE'LL BE ADDING NEW RECIPES... TO THE FAMILY'S MOONSHINE... AND... EVENTUALLY STOCKING THE SHELVES WITH WHISKEY... GIN... RUM... AND OTHER LIQUORS.
Nats, putting tube in barrel
MOST OF WHICH... HE SAYS... HAVE A SPECIAL CONNECTION TO THE PEACH STATE.
Shawn Hall: "No one will be able to say, 'Well that's not made from Georgia.' It's made from Georgia peaches. We're only gonna make it when we can."
Amy Aubert, Eyewitness News: "Hall says the building they're using, just off Blandy Road, was originally built as an ammunition factory during World War II. He says right now they're just using the back portion, but they hope to expand to the front as well, which will add another 10,000 square feet to the distillery."
HE SAYS WHEN IT COMES TO CREATING ALCOHOL... IT BOILS DOWN TO ORGANIC CHEMISTRY.
Shawn Hall: "For our whiskeys, we have to cook the grain to extract the starch. And this is a 1,000 gallon jacketed steam kettle that we'll be using for that."
HALL SAYS THEY HOPE TO FILL THE FIRST BOTTLES OF MOONSHINE NEXT MONTH... AND BRING TOURISTS POURING IN... SOON AFTER.

HE SAYS THE COUNCIL HAS LOST ITS FOCUS ON WHAT'S IMPORTANT FOR THE CITY.
Mike Brashear, Candidate for Post 4: "If elected I'm going to bring a much more open-mindedness to the position, I think I'll be much more cooperative, I think I'm better at stating my position on matters without losing my temper."
