ELEVEN MEMBERS OF THE MACON-BIBB NAACP REQUESTED CHAPTER PRESIDENT DAVID BOOKER'S VOLUNTARY RESIGNATATION.
THAT'S ACCORDING TO DOCUMENTS OBTAINED BY 13WMAZ.
A JULY SEVENTH LETTER WRITTEN BY MEMBERS AT A SPECIALLY-CALLED MEETING SAYS THEY TOOK A 'MAJORITY VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE'.
THE LETTER WENT ON TO REQUEST BOOKERS 'VOLUNTARY DEPARTURE FROM BEING THE PRESIDENT... BY TAKING AN INDEFINITE LEAVE OF ABSENCE FROM YOUR POSITION AND DUTIES."
ACCORDING TO THE LETTER... MEMBERS ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE WAY BOOKER HAS BEEN TREATENING NAACP MEMBERS... CALLING HIS BEHAVIOR 'INTIMIDATING AND DISRESPECTFUL.'
THEY ALSO SAY HE HASN'T SUBMITTED PROPER FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS.
AND THAT HE'S WORKING ON THE BEHALF OF HIS PERSONAL AGENDA... NOT THE NAACP'S.
DAVID BOOKER SAYS HE WILL NOT RESIGN.. BUT HE CAN'T GO INTO DETAIL ABOUT THE COMPLAINT BECAUSE IT VIOLATES THE NAACP'S BY-LAWS.

DOZENS OF STUDENTS AND PARENTS SHOWED UP AT TONIGHT'S BIBB COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR WESTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL LAURA PERKINS.
Pause for nats=3
"We are here to send our message loud an clear"
WEARING A *WE ARE WESTSIDE* T-SHIRT... HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR JUAWN ((JUH-WON)) JACKSON SAYS HE ADDRESSED THE BIBB SCHOOL BOARD ON BEHALF OF STUDENTS AND PARENTS WHO WANT TO SEE PERKINS REINSTATED AS PRINCIPAL.
THE DISTRICT PLACED HER ON LEAVE LAST MONTH... THEN SENT HER A LETTER SAYING THEY ARE FIRING HER FOR INCOMPETENCE AND MISHANDLING A ONE-POINT-SEVEN MILLION DOLLAR GRANT.
THE LETTER SAYS SHE MADE POOR DECISIONS ABOUT THE GRANT MONEY... AND MISREPRESENTED FACTS TO HER BOSSES.
IN HIS STATEMENT TO THE BOARD... JACKSON SAID PERKINS WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND AS SCHOOL LEADER.
HE CALLED THE DISTRICT'S ACTIONS QUOTE *SHOCKING* AND *A CIRCUS ACT.*
Juawn Jackson, Westide High School Senior: "This is not an act, we're here to say we reject that letter and we believe Ms. Perkins is able and she is a willing vessel in our school system and we want to see her return to Westside."
THE LETTER SAYS PERKINS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SERVE AS PRINCIPAL... PENDING A HEARING SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 8.
SUPERINTENDENT ROMAIN DALLEMAND WAS NOT AT TONIGHT'S MEETING.
BOARD PRESIDENT TOMMY BARNES DECLINED TO COMMENT... SAYING HE CANNOT DISCUSS PERSONNEL MATTERS.

THERE WILL BE NO GEORGIA STATE FAIR IN MACON NEXT YEAR.
THE GEORGIA STATE FAIR ASSOCIATION DECIDED TODAY THAT ATTENDANCE HAS BEEN TOO SLOW FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS TO KEEP IT RUNNING.
STATE FAIR BOARD PRESIDENT DON JOHSTONO SAYS MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION DEBATED ALL THE PROS AND CONS OF CLOSING THE FAIR... BUT DECIDED THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH COMMUNITY SUPPORT. JOHSTONO SAYS HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT WOULD CHANGE THE ASSOCIATION'S DECISION AND BRING THE FAIR BACK AFTER 2012... BUT FIXING UP THE FAIRGROUNDS AT CENTRAL CITY PARK WITH A PROPOSED PENNY SALES TAX MAY HELP.

WARNER ROBINS COUNCILMAN JOHN WILLIAMS ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT HE PLANS TO RUN FOR POST 6 AGAIN AND OFFER HIS SERVICES TO THE CITIZENS OF WARNER ROBINS FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS.
JENNIFER MOULLIET TELLS WHY HE SAYS HIS WORK ISN'T DONE YET.<<COUNCILMAN JOHN WILLIAMS SAYS HE'S NOT READY TO GIVE UP HIS SEAT JUST YET... HE SAYS HE'S IN THE MIDDLE OF MANY LARGE PROJECTS IN THE CITY AND HE WANTS TO FINISH THEM.

John Williams, Warner Robins Councilman: "Designing a sewage expansion project that will mean maybe 2000 acres coming into the city for expansion, for industrial and residential growth."

WILLIAMS HAS BEEN THE CENTER OF CONTROVERSY... LANDING HIS NAME IN POLICE REPORTS FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF.
LAST NOVEMBER... A GRAND JURY INDICTED WILLIAMS FOR A CHARGE OF MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS TO POLICE ABOUT A CITY CELL PHONE... HE'S STILL WAITING FOR A TRIAL.

IN MAY... HE ALLEGEDLY THREW COFFEE AND FOOD ON THE CHAIRMAN OF DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY... TONY ROBBINS.
John Williams, Warner Robins City Council: "There's always two sides of a story so if the public knew the other side of the incidents it might cast a different picture on it."
A PANEL REVIEWED WILLIAMS INDICTMENT AND DECIDED THAT HIS ACTIONS DIDN'T REFLECT HIS OFFICE OR ADVERSELY AFFECT THE PUBLIC'S INTEREST... SO HE'S REMAINED ON COUNCIL.
COUNCILMAN WILLIAMS SAID THE ALLEGED FOOD FIGHT INCIDENT WAS AN ACCIDENT.

John Williams, Warner Robins City Council: "Everyone has a personal life and I think that doesn't have anything to do with the job I have done or intend to do."

HE SAYS HE DOESN'T THINK THE CONTROVERSY WILL SWAY VOTES.

John Williams, Warner Robins City Council: "I've been a councilman that you don't intimidate, you don't bribe, when you want something done, if it's for the good of the whole city I get it done. If it's for personal interest, it doesn't happen."

WILLIAMS WILL GO UP AGAINST RETIRED ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF MIKE DAVIS FOR THE POST 6 SEAT.
JENNIFER MOULLIET 13WMAZ EYEWITNESS NEWS.
>> DAVIS WAS UNABLE TO MEET WITH US TODAY BUT SAYS HE IS RUNNING BECAUSE HE THINKS THE PEOPLE OF WARNER ROBINS DESERVE BETTER SERVICE THAN THEY'RE GETTING.

GEORGIA LAWMAKERS APPROVED NEW POLITICAL BOUNDARIES FOR THE STATE'S DISTRICTS.
THE PLAN IN THE HOUSE PITS 20 HOUSE INCUMBENTS AGAINST FELLOW HOUSE MEMBERS FROM THE SAME PARTY.
THAT INCLUDES FOUR REPUBLICAN MATCHUPS IN SOUTH GEORGIA... AND SIX DEMOCRATIC MATCHUPS IN METO ATLANTA.
THE SENATE MAP INCLUDES ONE INCUMBENT MATCHUP BETWEEN TWO DEMOCRATIC SENATORS.
THE CHAMBERS WILL EACH HAVE TO APPROVE THE OTHER'S MAPS.
THEN THE PLAN WILL HEAD TO GOVERNOR NATHAN DEAL FOR HIS SIGNATURE..

U-S FINANCIAL MARKETS TOOK ANOTHER PLUNGE TODAY... THE DOW JONES FELL NEARLY 420 POINTS... THE NASDAQ PLUNGED 131 POINTS... AND THE S AND P 500 FINISHED 53 POINTS DOWN.
THE TUMBLE WAS INSPIRED BY NEW CONCERNS ABOUT U-S AND EUROPEAN ECONOMIES... INCLUDING THE POTENTIAL FOR A GLOBAL RECESSION.
ALEXIS CHRISTOFOROUS HAS MORE FROM WALL STREET.<<
Panicked investors unloaded stocks Thursday. The Dow shed 419 points. Of the
30 stocks in that index... only one -- WalMart -- was up.

(RTV material)

Renewed worries about European banks triggered the sell-off. Germany's DAX
index lost more than 5 percent of its value, amid news that economy has
stalled.

" We have still a very negative environment."

((NARR-2))

Analysts at Morgan Stanley say both the United States and Europe are
"dangerously close to a recession."

((SOT)) Jonathan Corpina/Meridian Equity Partners (:30-:36)

"Everyone's feeling it and you can't put your head in the sand and think we're
immune to a recession."

((STANDUP BRIDGE)) Alexis Christoforous, CBS News, Wall Street (:36-:46)

The losses on Wall Street wiped out nearly all of the Dow's gains over the
past five trading days. Some investors who bought stocks recently turned right
back around and sold.

((NARR-3))

The impulse to sell was also fed by news that more Americans joined the
unemployment line last week.

Three-thousand people waited outside for hours Thursday at a job fair in
Atlanta.

About 20 were treated for heat exposure and exhaustion.

((NARR-4))

Adding insult to injury, consumer prices jumped last month - -which means
Americans are paying more for everything from gas to clothing.

Existing home sales were down in July.. and manufacturing has weakened in
mid-Atlantic states.

As stocks slid downward, money flooded into U.S. Treasurys and gold.

((SOT)) Jonathan Corpina/Meridian Equity Partners

"Everyone's jumping on this gold wagon ."

((NARR-5))

Gold reached another high of 18-hundred-22 dollars an ounce, as investors
looked for a safe haven in a stormy market.
>> THE NASDAQ LOST MORE THAN FIVE PERCENT OF ITS VALUE... AND THE S-AND-P SHED NEARLY FOUR AND A HALF PERCENT.
