HELLO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR JOINING US. I'M FRANK MALLOY..THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX.

IF YOU LIVE IN MACON... YOUR STREET COULD SOON GET A FACELIFT.
LESS THAN TWO HOURS AGO... A CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE APPROVED A PLAN TO FIX UP MORE THAN 30 ROADS ACROSS MACON.
LAUREN DISPIRITO SPOKE WITH CITY ENGINEER BILL CAUSEY... ABOUT WHY THE STREETS ARE IN NEED OF REPAIR.
<< Lauren DiSpirito, Eyewitness News: "According to Bill Causey, the city would spend more than $100,000 repairing 15 concrete streets. That list includes Curry Place, which Causey says will be repaired between Lincoln Road and North Avenue in East Macon. They would also spend more than $82,000 repairing 16 asphalt streets. Causey says the state Department of Transportation requires that work be done before the state can come in and repave the roads. I'm standing in front of Twin Pines Drive. That's another street that made the list and of the 31 streets that are on it some of them were damaged by utility crews. Causey says they dig up the road to make repairs but don't always do a good job when they patch it up afterwards."
Bill Causey, City Engineer: "So they dug into the asphalt, put the sewer line in and the patch is visible it's starting to come apart at the edges."
Lauren DiSpirito, Eyewitness News: "Now Causey says not all of the patches are hazardous to drivers but he said that doesn't mean they look good.
Bill Causey, City Engineer: "It's more at the point of being an annoyance to drivers and people that live on the street and it just shows a lack of repair in neighborhoods all neighborhoods look better when their streets are kept up."
Lauren DiSpirito, Eyewitness News: "Causey says work could begin in 30 days. Lauren DiSpirito 13 WMAZ Eyewitness News.">>
BILL CAUSEY SAYS SOME OF THE STREETS ON THE REPAIR LIST HAVEN'T BEEN REPAVED IN ABOUT TWENTY YEARS.

WITH CENTRAL GEORGIA STUDENTS EITHER PREPARING TO HEAD BACK... OR WITH THE FIRST DAY ALREADY IN THE HISTORY BOOKS... PARENTS ARE LOOKING FOR WAYS TO GET THEIR SCHOOL SHOPPING DONE ON A BUDGET.
TODAY... OUR FACEBOOK FANS SHARED A FEW TIPS.
ALPHONSO SAYS... "KEEP IT SIMPLE. DON'T OVERDO IT. ESSENTIALS ONLY... GET JUST ENOUGH SO THEY DON'T RUN OUT."
KELLI ADDS... "JUST BUY THE ESSENTIALS TO GET THEM STARTED BACK AND ADD TO IT A LITTLE AT A TIME. I ALWAYS START WITH BASIC SUPPLIES AND THREE NEW OUTFITS, SHOES AND UNDERTHINGS. I HAVE FOUR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN TO BUY FOR, SO I DO THIS FOR EACH CHILD AND ADD ON AS I'M ABLE TO."
JEFFERY WROTE... "HAVING MULTIPLE CLASSES COULD MEAN A LOT OF SUPPLIES. IT'S BEST TO BUY A MULTI-SUBJECT NOTEBOOK. THIS WAY, YOU COULD CUT DOWN ON PAPER CONSUMPTION AND ONLY HAVE TO FORK OUT THE MONEY FOR ONE. BUYING PENCILS IN BULK HELPS OUT TOO."
AND TRESA ADVISES... "I DO NOT STRESS OVER THE SUPPLIES. I BUY EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED AND COMPARE THE SALES AND SHOP AROUND. I LOVE THE 1 CENT AND 25 CENT SALES. YOU CAN GO BACK LATER AND BUY THE TISSUES, SANITIZER, COPY PAPER ETC.
THEY DON'T NEED IT ALL AT ONE TIME ANYWAY AND I NEVER CAN AFFORD TO DO IT ALL AT ONCE. I PURCHASED BOOKBAGS AND BASIC SUPPLIES FOR 4 CHILDREN FOR LESS THAN 100 BUCKS."
