POLICE ARE STILL WAITING FOR FORENSIC RESULTS IN THE LAUREN GIDDINGS HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION.
LAST WEEK... THEY SAID THOSE RESULTS SHOULD BE BACK TODAY OR TOMORROW... BUT THEY HAVE NOT COME IN YET.
HER FAMILY HAS RETURNED TO MARYLAND AFTER SPENDING A WEEKEND IN MACON.
LAUREN DISPIRITO HAS MORE.
I spoke with Lauren Giddings' mother Karen Giddings by phone this afternoon. She and her husband Bill are back in their hometown of Laurel, Maryland after a visit to Macon this weekend. They were here both to go through their daughter Lauren's Georgia Avenue apartment and for a memorial service that was held in her honor on Saturday. She says there is no new information in the case. They had not spoken with police since Thursday when they arrived and plan to call them sometime this evening but said she thinks the next piece of information that they do get in the case will be some type of decisive factor, key information that hopefully will answer questions about what happened to her daughter. She says that police have done everything they can from what she can tell. It was a thorough search what they did in the apartment and that they're trying to be very careful not to jeopardize any of the evidence or anything that could lead to finding the person who did this to her daughter. She said she wasn't sure that she wanted to come to Macon, that it would be very difficult for her and her family. But after having been here she said she felt peace here, especially being at her daughter's apartment, on her daughter's ballony where she used to sit. She said she really felt Lauren's presence there. She also talked about the outpouring of support from the Macon community, especially the Mercer Law School at the ceremony saturday which I attended. You could tell that they were a close knit law school family and spoke about how much Lauren loved life and her passion for debate, for her career, and for her family and for her faith. Lauren's mom said that it was comforting to be around people who loved her daughter here in Georgia. She says now that they're back at home, she's not sure when they plan to return to Macon but they hope for new evidence soon and new information soon on what happened to their daughter.
>> LAUREN GIDDINGS WAS LAST SEEN ON JUNE 25TH..HER BODY WAS FOUND ON JUNE 30TH NEAR THE APARTMENTS WHERE SHE LIVED ON GEORGIA AVENUE..
