LAUREN DISPIRITO...WHO'S BEEN COVERING THIS CASE....SPOKE THIS AFTERNOON WITH GIDDINGS MOTHER.
LAUREN'S HERE TO TELL US THE LATEST FROM THE GIDDINGS FAMILY.
I COULD TELL FROM HER MOTHER HOW MUCH IT MEANT TO SEE THE MACON COMMUNITY COME TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE THAT LOVE OF LIFE AND HONOR HER DAUGHTER.

A CENTERVILLE SALON OWNER IS FACING CHILD MOLESTATION CHARGES.
THAT'S ACCORDING TO SERGEANT KEEL BROOM WITH THE HOUSTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

HE SAID MATTHEW CALEB PIERCE... MANAGER OF THE MATTHEW CALEB SALON IN CENTERVILLE... TURNED HIMSELF IN LAST NIGHT AFTER THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE CONTACTED HIM.
BROOM SAYS PIERCE IS NOW IN THE HOUSTON COUNTY JAIL.
THE JAIL'S WEB SITE SAYS HE FACES ONE COUNT OF CHILD MOLESTATION...TWO COUNTS OF AGGRAVATE CHILD MOLESTATION..AND OTHER CHARGES.

A CENTRAL GEORGIA MAN IS BACK AT HIS JOB AND WILL BE PAID BACK-WAGES AFTER THE COURTS DECIDED HE HAD BEEN ILLEGALLY FIRED.
MICHAEL WALD SAYS THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR SUED THE BLUE BIRD BUS MANUFACTURER FOR REFUSING TO RE-HIRE THE EMPLOYEE... COURT RECORDS SAY HIS NAME IS RICKY DYE.
WALD SAYS THEY FIRED DYE IN 2004 WHEN HE COMPLAINED IT WAS UNSAFE FOR HIM TO USE A BUCKET LIFT WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING.
AFTER LOSING IN DISTRICT COURT AND APPEALS COURT... BLUE BIRD AGREED TO PAY MORE THAN 170-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN BACK WAGES... AND THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR'S COSTS FROM THE CASE.
WALD SAYS THAT JUST ONE EXAMPLE OF HOW THE LAW PROTECTS WORKER'S RIGHTS.
WHEN A WORKER HASA CONCERN, A SAFETY AND HEALTH CONCERN. THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO GO TO MANAGEMENT AND REQUEST THAT THAT BE FIXED. IF THE EMPLOYER RETALIATES AGAINST THE WORKER. FOR MAKING THAT REQUEST, THAT FALLS UNDER THE WHITSLE BLOWER ACT ELEVEN OF THE OCCUPATION AND HEALTH ACT. OSHA WOULD GET INVOLVED
IN AN UNRELATED CASE....OSHA INVESTIGATED BLUEBIRD IN 2006 AFTER A WORKER WAS KILLED.
THE OSHA REPORT OF THAT INCIDENT SAYS THE WORKER FELL 8 FEET.
BLUE BIRD HAS NOT RESPONDED TO OUR CALLS FOR COMMENT.

MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT HAS RAISED MORE MONEY, SPENT MORE AND HAS MORE CASH ON HAND THAN HIS THREE CHALLENGERS COMBINED.
THAT'S ACCORDING TO FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE FORMS FILED WITH THE STATE ETHICS COMMISSION.
THE REPORTS FROM REICHERT, PAUL BRONSON, ROBERT BROWN AND C.JACK ELLIS SHOW THEIR CAMPAIGN FINANCES IN THE RACE FOR MACON MAYOR THROUGH JUNE 30.
GOING INTO TO THE FINAL THREE WEEKS OF THE RACE....THE REPORTS SAY...REICHERT HAS NEARLY 29 THOUSAND DOLLARS IN HAND.
ELLIS...ABOUT 16 THOUSAND.
BROWN...NEARLY 11 THOUSAND
AND BRONSON...8 HUNDRED THIRTY DOLLARS.

THE COUNCIL'S COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY APPROVED TWO MEASURES THIS AFTERNOON.
ONE ASKS THE COUNTY ELECTIONS SUPERVISOR TO SCHEDULE A NOVEMBER BALLOT QUESTION... ON ALLOWING RETAIL SALES ON SUNDAYS... FROM 12-30 P-M TO 11-30 P-M.
THE SECOND WOULD AMEND CITY ORDINANCE TO ALLOW THE SALES... IF THE BALLOT QUESTION PASSES.
COUNCILMAN LOUIS TOMPKINS SAYS SELLING ALCOHOL ON SUNDAY COULD HELP IMPROVE SALES TAX REVENUE... AND HELP THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY... BUT HE SAYS VOTERS HAVE THE FINAL SAY.
"Like I say, I'm not legislating morals. But I'm simply saying that I want the voters to know that they have an expressed right to express their opinions and those opinions are best expressed at the polls." THE ISSUE COULD BE VOTED ON BY FULL COUNCIL NEXT WEEK.
THE COUNCIL VOTE WOULD NOT AFFECT SUNDAY SALES IN THE COUNTY.
BIBB COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WOULD NEED TO act TO PUT A COUNTY-WIDE SUNDAY SALES VOTE ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT.

THE BIBB COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAS RESPONDED TO MACON CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE CHRIS HORNE'S COMPLAINT AGAINST HIS OPPONENT ELAINE LUCAS.
LAST WEEK... HORNE ASKED THE PARTY TO INVESTIGATE CLAIMS LUCAS' ALLEGEDLY MADE THAT HE WAS PART OF A REPUBLICAN CONSPIRACY... AND PUBLICLY RELEASE THEIR FINDINGS.
TODAY... BIBB COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE CHAIR DARYL MORTON RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING... IN PART...
"IN MY CAPACITY AS CHAIR, I AFFIRM THAT ALL OF THE CANDIDATES CURRENTLY ON THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY BALLOT FOR THE JULY 19TH ELECTION, INCLUDING MR. HORNE, ARE PROPERLY QUALIFIED DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES.

MACON IS PLANNING SOME ROAD IMPROVEMENTS... WITH THE HELP OF A 300 THOUSAND DOLLAR FEDERAL TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT GRANT.
THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION WILL ADD 400 THOUSAND TO THAT... AND THE MEDICAL CENTER PLANS TO CONTRIBUTE UP TO 180 THOUSAND DOLLARS TO THE PROJECT.
THE CITY WILL USE THE CASH FOR UPGRADES TO THE INTERSECTION OF NEW AND PINE STREETS.
THOSE IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDE PLANTING TREES... ADDING CROSSWALKS AND UPDATING THE SIDEWALKS.
TRAFFIC WILL REMAIN TWO-WAY... AND SOME TREES WILL BE ADDED.
THE ON-STREET PARKING WILL BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH DESIGNATED LOADING ZONES.
MEDICAL CENTER C-E-O DON FAULK SAYS THESE ARE NEEDED IMPROVEMENTS.
Don Faulk, Medical Center of Central Georgia CEO of Administration: "People coming in and out of the emergency room both families and patients and you've got children, this street as busy as it is really can be a dangerous place and it's a terrible thing to have in this viscinity."
FAULK SAYS HE HOPES THESE IMPROVEMENTS WILL MAKE THE AREA MORE WELCOMING AND PLEASANT FOR VISITORS.

TRUSTEES OF ONE TEXAS SCHOOL SYSTEM WILL MEET TONIGHT... TO DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF A SUPERINTENDENT THEY HIRED FROM THE ATLANTA SCHOOL DISTRICT.
THE DESOTO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT HIRED THEN DEPUTY-SUPERINTENDENT KATHY AUGUSTINE TO LEAD THEIR SCHOOL SYSTEM IN APRIL.
AUGUSTINE DENIES ANY WRONGDOING IN ATLANTA... WHERE SOME TEACHERS AND OFFICIALS ARE ACCUSED OF FALSIFYING OR MISREPRESENTING TEST SCORES.
SHE SAYS SHE TALKED ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION WITH THE SYSTEM WHILE THEY WERE CONSIDERING HER FOR THE JOB.

PRESIDENT OBAMA SAYS HE WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH CONGRESS TO REACH THE LARGEST DEAL POSSIBLE TO CUT GOVERNMENT SPENDING AND RAISE THE NATION'S BORROWING LIMIT.
HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER SAYS HE AGREES WITH THE PRESIDENT THAT THE DEBT CEILING MUST BE RAISED.
BUT HE SAYS REPUBLICANS WON'T SUPPORT A DEAL THAT INCLUDES TAX INCREASES.
Boehner Sot: "Listen I agree with the president, we cannot allow our nation to default on our debt, but to prevent a default, a bill must pass the Congress, and a bill that doesn't meet these tests, can't pass the House of Representatives. This is the message we will take again to the White House today, and hope that we can work our way through this."
