GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US..
I'M FRANK MALLOY.. THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.

A MILLEDGEVILLE MAN DIED AFTER A HIT AND RUN EARLY THIS MORNING AND INVESTIGATORS CONTINUE SEARCHING FOR FOR LEADS IN HIS DEATH.
LIEUTENANT PAUL COSPER WITH  THE GEORGIA STATE PATROL SAYS A VEHICLE HIT 35-YEAR-OLD ALEX TORRELL WRIGHT AROUND 1 A-M.
COSPER SAYS WRIGHT WAS WALKING WITH TRAFFIC ON PINE AVENUE JUST OFF VINSON HIGHWAY.
WRIGHT' SISTER SAID SAYS HER BROTHER ALWAYS GOT AROUND BY WALKING OR CATCHING RIDES... BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE A CAR.
Deonia Cummings, Milledgeville: "For somebody to just run him down and just leave him like that, that's the thing that hurts the most. If it was a mistake, stay and say it was a mistake, I can take that a whole better. But to just leave him and did not try to call the police or anything and just leave him out there just for somebody to find him."
CUMMINGS SAYS WRIGHT'S 14-YEAR-OLD SON LIVES ON PINE AVENUE... AND SAYS HE WAS IN THAT AREA OFTEN.
MILLEDGEVILLE POLICE ASK THAT ANYONE WITH INFORMATION TO CALL 478-414-4413. AGAIN... THAT NUMBER... 478-414-4413.

A COCHRAN MAN FACES MURDER CHARGES TONIGHT AFTER POLICE SAY HE RAMMED HIS WIFE'S CAR CAUSING A WRECK THAT KILLED HIS 22-YEAR-OLD NIECE..
COCHRAN POLICE CHIEF JAMES SANDERS SAYS JAMES TRIPP HIT HIS WIFE CINDY'S TRAILBLAZER ON LIMESTONE ROAD YESTERDAY AFTERNOON CAUSING HER TO HIT SOME TREES.

MACON POLICE SAY 25-YEAR-OLD STEPHEN MCDANIEL... HAD A MASTER KEY TO THE GEORGIA AVENUE APARTMENT COMPLEX WHERE HE AND HOMICIDE VICTIM LAUREN GIDDINGS LIVED.
SO FAR.. POLICE HAVE ONLY NAMED McDANIEL A *PERSON OF INTEREST* IN THE CASE.
THEY SAY INVESTIGATORS LEARNED...EARLY ON IN THE CASE...THAT HE HAD THE MASTER KEY.
ALTHOUGH MCDANIEL HAS *NOT* BEEN CHARGED WITH KILLING GIDDINGS... HIS LAWYER FLOYD BUFORD TODAY TOLD US HIS CLIENT IS INNOCENT OF MURDER... AND OF 2 BURGLARY CHARGES.
NO HEARING DATE HAS BEEN SET YET FOR A JUDGE TO DECIDE WHETHER THE BIBB COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE HAS A CONFLICT OF INTEREST IN THE CASE... BECAUSE MCDANIEL USED TO WORK THERE.
A BOND HEARING FOR MCDANIEL IS ON HOLD UNTIL THAT'S DECIDED.
MEANWHILE...BARRISTERS HALL APARTMENT COMPLEX CO-OWNER BONI BUSH SAYS SHE PLANS TO INSTALL OUTDOOR SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS AND UPGRADE THE ALARM SYSTEMS THERE TO ADDRESS NEW TENANTS' CONCERNS.
THE FATHER OF AN INCOMING MERCER LAW STUDENT....WHO WAS SCHEDULED TO MOVE INTO GIDDINGS OLD APARTMENT... AND NOW HAS A DIFFERENT APARTMENT... SAYS HE'S WORRIED ABOUT HIS SON'S SAFETY.
POLICE REMOVED THE REFRIGERATOR FROM A VACANT APARTMENT BELOW GIDDINGS'... BUT ARE NOT SAYING WHY.
CHIEF MIKE BURNS AND MAJOR CHARLES STONE SAY INVESTIGATORS ALSO REMOVED DRAINS FROM SOME OF THE APARTMENTS.
POLICE SAY THEY HAVE NO SUSPECTS IN THE CASE.

A HOUSTON COUNTY MAN ACCUSED OF CHILD MOLESTION WAS DENIED BOND TODAY..
DISTRICT ATTORNEY GEORGE HARTWIG SAYS MATTHEW CALEB PIERCE HAD A HEARING THIS MORNING..
HARTWIG SAYS HE ARGUED THAT PIERCE WAS  A THREAT TO INTIMIDATE WITNESSES... AND COULD POSSIBLY COMMIT MORE CRIMES.
A JUDGE AGREED TO KEEP PIERCE IN THE HOUSTON COUNTY JAIL.... WITHOUT BOND.
PIERCE FACES SEVERAL CHARGES... INCLUDING ONE COUNT OF CHILD MOLESTATION AND TWO COUNTS OF AGGRAVATED MOLESTATION.
HARTWIG SAYS HE EXPECTS PIERCE WILL FACE MORE CHARGES.

REPUBLICANS ARE THE TOP PARTY IN STATEWIDE POLITICS... BUT YOU WON'T FIND ANY ON TUESDAY'S MACON CITY ELECTION BALLOT.
THE FOUR CANDIDATES FOR MAYOR - FORMER MACON FIREFIGHTER PAUL BRONSON.. FORMER STATE SENATOR ROBERT BROWN.. FORMER MAYOR C. JACK ELLIS.. AND MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT... ARE ALL DEMOCRATS..
SOME REPUBLICANS... INCLUDING MACON STATE REPRESENTATIVE ALLEN PEAKE... ARE ENCOURAGING REPUBLICANS TO PUT THEIR PARTY DIFFERENCES ASIDE... AND VOTE IN THE MAYORAL RACE.
TO DO THAT... THEY'LL NEED TO ASK FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY BALLOT.
THERE ARE ALSO TWO SPECIAL ELECTIONS TUESDAY TO FILL THE STATE SENATE 26 AND STATE HOUSE 139 SEATS.
      THOSE RACES ARE NON-PARTISAN.

THE NEW CHIEF OF PEACH COUNTY SCHOOLS... WILL HAVE HER FIRST DAY ON THE JOB TOMORROW.
TODAY... THE  SCHOOL BOARD VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO HIRE JOE ANN DENNING AS SUPERINTENDENT.
DENNING HAS WORKED IN PEACH SCHOOLS FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS... AND HAS BEEN AN EDUCATOR FOR MORE THAN 40.
UNTIL RECENTLY... SHE WAS THE DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES..
HER NEW SALARY WILL BE 140-THOUSAND DOLLARS PER YEAR.
SHE WAS ONE OF THREE FINALISTS TO REPLACE SUSAN CLARK... WHO RETIRED IN JUNE.

RIGHT NOW... THE AVERAGE PRICE FOR A GALLON OF REGULAR UNLEADED IS 3-62 IN MACON... ACCORDING TO TRIPLE-A.
MERCER UNIVERSITY ECONOMICS PROFESSOR ALLEN LYNCH... SAYS GAS PRICES DIPPED IN EARLY JULY BECAUSE THERE WAS MORE OIL IN THE MARKET.
SEVERAL COUNTRIES... INCLUDING THE UNITED STATES... RELEASED SOME OF THEIR OIL RESERVES TO BOOST THE ECONOMY.
AROUND THE SAME TIME... THE ORGANIZATION OF OIL PRODUCING COUNTRIES... OR OPEC... ALSO RELEASED MORE OIL.
LYNCH SAYS THAT'S ONE EXAMPLE OF HOW OIL PRICES FLUCTUATE.. BUT IT DOESN'T COMPARE TO HOW MUCH PRICES HAVE RISEN IN THE PAST DECADE.
"That's being led really by growth in these emerging markets like China and India. That's not likely to go away we're likely going to see higher gas prices form this point forward."
LYNCH PREDICTS GAS PRICES WILL FLUCTUATE AROUND 3 AND 4 DOLLARS BUT WON'T GO MUCH HIGHER.
HE SAYS OPEC WILL KEEP IT THAT WAY SO THEIR CUSTOMERS DON'T TURN TO ALTERNATIVE FUELS.
