THIS WEEKEND... FRIENDS AND FAMILY WILL GATHER TO REMEMBER MERCER LAW GRADUATE LAUREN GIDDINGS.
MERCER UNIVERSITY... THE LAW SCHOOL... GIDDINGS' CHURCH AND FAMILY MEMBERS PLAN TO SAY A MASS IN HER MEMORY AT 6-30 SATURDAY NIGHT.
THE MASS WILL BE SAID AT SAINT JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH ON POPLAR STREET.
TODAY... POLICE APPEALED FOR TIPS AND CLUES IN GIDDINGS' KILLING.
THEY ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE BODY FOUND OUTSIDE HER APARTMENT LAST WEEK IS THE MISSING GRADUATE.
POLICE CHIEF MIKE BURNS SPOKE AT A NEWS CONFERENCE THIS AFTERNOON AND ASKED FOR THE PUBLIC'S HELP..

Macon Police Chief Mike Burns: "The body was dismembered. So if the public smells any kind of foul odor to please contact the police department. We have not found all the body parts yet."
BURNS SAYS THEY EXPANDED THEIR SEARCH FOR EVIDENCE YESTERDAY.
HE SAYS THEY CHECKED SEWERS AND STORM DRAINS NEAR GIDDINGS' GEORGIA AVENUE HOME BUT DID NOT FIND ANYTHING..
BIBB COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY GREG WINTERS PRAISED THE POLICE WORK ON THE CASE... BUT SAYS THERE ARE STILL MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS.
Bibb County District Attorney Greg Winters: "It's a slow process. We all wish we had answers now, we do not have all the answers we want at this time. But they will not quite working until they get those answers."
POLICE HAVE INCREASED PATROLS NEAR GIDDINGS APARTMENT ON GEORGIA AVENUE.. FOR PEOPLE'S SAFETY AND TO RESPOND TO TIPS... BURNS SAID.
BURNS SAYS THE F-B-I OFFERED TO ASSIST MACON POLICE WHEN THE BODY WAS FOUND LAST THURSDAY... HE SAYS ALL OF THE FORENSIC EVIDENCE COLLECTED HAS BEEN SENT TO THEM.
MACON POLICE HAVE QUESTIONED AT LEAST 12 PEOPLE IN THE CASE.
OFFICERS INVESTIGATING THE MISSING PERSONS REPORT FOR LAUREN GIDDINGS OUTSIDE HER APARTMENT LAST THURSDAY SMELLED A FOUL ODOR.. AND DISCOVERED HER BODY... BUT BURNS SAYS OFFICERS THERE THE NIGHT BEFORE DID NOT SMELL ANYTHING UNUSUAL.

LAUREN GIDDINGS SPENT A YEAR AS A LAW CLERK IN THE MACON PUBLIC DEFNDER'S OFFICE..
LEE ROBINSON... PUBLIC DEFENDER OF THE MACON JUDICIAL CURCUIT... SAID GIDDINGS WORKED IN HIS OFFICE UNTIL MAY.
HE CALLED HER A STANDOUT... WHO WAS EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT.. AND HAD THE COURTROOM PRESENCE TO BECOME A GOOD LAWYER.
HER SUPERVISOR... AMY BELL SAYS SHE WAS HELPING GIDDINGS TRY AND FIND A JOB IN ATLANTA.
Amy Bell, Properties Chief: "Lauren was wonderful. She was really funny and had a great sense of humor and we laughed so much, but she took her work very seriously."
GIDDINGS RECENTLY GRADUATED FROM MERCER LAW SCHOOL AND WAS STUDYING FOR THE BAR EXAM.

FORMER MACON PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR RICHARD POWELL IS A STEP CLOSER TO APPEALING HIS FIRING AFTER CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS WORKED OUT THE RULES FOR HIS APPEAL HEARING.
MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT FIRED POWELL IN FEBRUARY.
ACCORDING TO DOCUMENTS... THE MAYOR CITED A VARIETY OF PROBLEMS WITH POWELL... INCLUDING HIS INABILITY TO CREATE A BUDGET... AND HUNTING FOR WILD BOARS AT THE CITY LANDFILL.
IN MAY COUNCIL POSTPONED POWELL'S ORIGINAL APPEALS HEARING... AFTER THEY WERE UNABLE TO DECIDE ON THE RULES.
NOW COUNCILWOMAN LAUREN BENEDICT SAYS HIS CASE WILL BE HEARD BEFORE AN ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGE... AND THEN COUNCIL WILL VOTE ON WHETHER TO REINSTATE HIM.
Councilwoman Lauren Benedict: "What we're doing now is ensuring that we take the steps necessary to ensure a proper and a fair hearing that is recorded so that if he is unhappy with the outcome he has the opportunity to file an appeal."
A DATE FOR THE HEARING HAS NOT BEEN SET.
ACCORDING TO THE CITY ATTORNEY... IF COUNCIL VOTES NOT TO GIVE POWELL HIS JOB BACK HE CAN APPEAL THAT DECISION IN A COURT OF LAW.

A PERRY WOMAN ACCUSED OF TRYING TO ROB A COCHRAN BANK LAST WEEK IS IN THE BLECKLEY COUNTY JAIL.
COCHRAN POLICE LIEUTENANT KEY MCGUIRE SAYS SHE IS 40-YEAR-OLD KERRY LEIGHANN BONNER.
SHE WAS ARRESTED SATURDAY AFTER OFFICERS STAKED OUT HER MOTHER'S HOME IN PERRY.
HE SAID BONNER WAS CAUGHT AFTER A BRIEF CHASE DURING WHICH SHE SHOT HERSELF IN THE HAND.
POLICE BELIEVE BONNER IS THE WOMAN WHO TRIED TO COVER HER FACE WITH A TOWEL WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ROB A BANK LAST MONTH.
A BREAK IN THE CASE CAME WHEN PERRY POLICE INVESTIGATED A STOLEN FORD F-150 PICKUP TRUCK -- THE TYPE APPARENTLY USED IN COCHRAN.
THE PICKUP'S OWNERS TOLD PERRY INVESTIGATORS IT WAS STOLEN BY A FAMILY MEMBER... AND WHEN SHOWN A PICTURE OF THE COCHRAN ROBBER.. ONE SAID QUOTE... "THAT'S MY SISTER."
