GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US..
I'M FRANK MALLOY...THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11..

FIVE DAYS AFTER THE DISCOVERY OF A BODY BELIEVED TO BE THAT OF MISSING MERCER LAW SCHOOL GRADUATE LAUREN GIDDINGS... BIBB COUNTY'S DISTRICT ATTORNEY SAYS THEY HAVE NO SUSPECTS AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHY SOMEONE MAY HAVE WANTED TO KILL HER.
Greg Winters: "Am frustrated that there isn't an answer today, absolutely, um, I'm frustrated for her family her family needs to know the answer."
EARLIER TODAY... RANDALL SAVAGE TALKED WITH DISTRICT ATTORNEY GREG WINTERS.
WINTERS DECLINED COMMENT ON HOW GIDDINGS DIED... AND HE DID NOT GIVE DETAILS ON WHERE AUTHORITIES ARE FOCUSING THEIR INVESTIGATION.

Greg Winters: Obviously the early stages of the investigation can't really talk much about what was found there, we don't know a motive for the killing at this point, that's being investigated and hopefully we will have an answer to that soon.
Randall Savage: The report that we heard that there was no arms no legs no head just a torso is that accurate?
Greg Winters: I'm not gonna comment on that right now honestly, that's something that we want to keep close, I will say that out of deference for the family obviously right now ans because the investigation is still ongoing we don't want to release all the information we have um the police department does not and we are working with them with any questions, concerns that they may have but right now we're just gonna kind of keep that close to the vest.
RS: So you will neither confirm nor deny that it was just a torso?
GW: Ah, correct.
Randall Savage: "Is it, is it definitely been determined that it was Ms. Giddings' body?"
Greg Winters: "It is not, they're, we're awaiting a final determination by the FBI, DNA from her parents has been collected, DNA from the body was collected that was sent up to the FBI up in Quantico and we're waiting for final analysis and word from them.
RS: Did they do a preliminary DNA here.
GW: Ah we did not do one here, no.
RS: Nothing at all?
GW: No not a preliminary DNA here.
RS: When did the FBI get this?
GW: The initial evidence that they gathered that they took up to Quanitco they trip was Friday afternoon I believe it was Friday afternoon and so then initially had a DNA sample from the father then had to get another sample or a second sample from the mother and so that I believe was gathered on Saturday but they've had some forensic evidence since last week.
RS: And it went to Quantico
GW: It did
RS I presume it went there because the testing is much more sophisticated at Quantico
GW: I believe, I don't know the exact answer to that and all I know is the FBI has been working with the Macon Police Department They have made a determination of what is being sent where about who is going to do what in regards to the investigation of the case and it was a determination that would be made that much of the forensics would be sent to the FBI
RS: Was there any signs of blood splatter in the apartment?
GW: Well obviously I'm not going to comment on that right now, what was found um at the apartment complex or inside any of the apartments
RS: Did they do any testing of the pipes, water pipes that run through comodes sinks bathtubs?
GW: I don't know right now what testing was done I know evidence was collected from the apartment complex and part of that is what's being sent to the FBI also.
WINTERS EXPECTS TO LEARN FROM THE F-B-I TOMORROW IF TESTS CONFIRM WHETHER THE BODY IS GIDDINGS'.
MACON POLICE SAID TODAY THEY'RE CHECKING THE CITY'S STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEM FOR CLUES IN THE CASE.

WITH TWO WEEKS TO GO UNTIL ELECTION DAY... THE RACE FOR MACON CITY COUNCIL'S WARD ONE POST THREE SEAT HEATED UP TONIGHT.
CANDIDATE CHRIS HORNE HELD A NEWS CONFERENCE AT CITY HALL TO CALL FOR AN END TO WHAT HE CALLED A LACK OF "CIVILITY AND COURTESY" IN THE CAMPAIGN.
AS ELEANOR LISSITZYN EXPLAINS... INCUMBENT ELAINE LUCAS SAYS IT'S JUST ANOTHER PLOY BY THE REPUBLICAN'S TO GET HER OUT OF OFFICE.
"I come before you as a citizen of Macon."
WARD ONE POST THREE CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE CHRIS HORNE SAYS INCUMBENT ELAINE LUCAS WENT TOO FAR THIS WEEKEND... WHEN HE SAYS SHE TOOK TO FACEBOOK TO CRITICIZE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT HIM.
Horne: "I expected that sort of thing to come at me. You know I've had her spreading gossip about me and that's fine I understand it's politics. But there are two good people working with me because they chose to. It's not a personal issue, it's a politicial issue."
Stand up: "Horne handed out this documents... which are allegedly screen shots of Elaine Lucas' Facebook wall posts. In them Horne says Lucas personally attacks one of his supports and his campaign manager. When asked about the posts on camera, Lucas refused to say if she wrote them."
Eleanor: "Why won't you comment on that Elaine?
Lucas: "Do you want me to repeat what I just said?
Eleanor: But that's not answering the question. Why won't you comment on if you made those posts?
Lucas: "Are you Chris Horne's campaign manager?
Stand up: "Later I checked Elaine Lucas' Facebook page myself. The post entitled "Ministers and Emaciated Girls" dated July 3 was still there and credited to Lucas' account."
HORNE SAYS LUCAS' FACEBOOK POSTS REFER TO SUPPORTER VICTOR HUNT... AND HIS CAMPAIGN MANAGER YOLANDA LATIMORE.
Hunt: "To falsely accuse me one, of being on drugs, it kind of rubs me the wrong way."2:11
Latimore: "We don't have to lose civility. And that's all I have to say."
LUCAS SAYS HER OPPONENTS REMARKS... ARE A POLITICIAL STUNT FUELED BY DESPERATION.
"I am just so shocked that a person who professes to be a Christian would come when I am trying to represent the people like a vicious Republican mob." 6:37
ISHE SAYS SHE WILL CONTINUE TO RUN HER CAMPAIGN IN THE SAME QUOTE ASSERTIVE MANNER.
IN PAST FACEBOOK POSTS LUCAS ACCUSED MAYOR REICHERT AND LOCAL REPUBLICANS OF TRYING TO OUST HER BY GETTING HORNE TO RUN FOR COUNCIL.
HORNE IS RUNNING AS A DEMOCRAT.
WHEN ASKED TO RESPOND TO THAT... HORNE SAID QUOTE THE ONLY PERSON WHO TALKED ME INTO RUNNING IS ELAINE LUCAS.

MAYOR CHUCK SHAHEEN TOLD ONE COUNCIL MEMBER NOT TO "POLITICIZE" THE PURCHASE OF HIS NEW CITY CAR.
THAT COMMENT CAME AT TONIGHT'S CITY COUNCIL MEETING AFTER MIKE DALEY QUESTIONED THE TIMING OF THE BIDDING PROCESS.
THE CITY PUT OUT THE BID FOR A NEW FOUR DOOR SEDAN LAST THURSDAY... WITH A DEADLINE OF 11 A-M TODAY.
ONLY ONE BID WAS SUBMITTED ON TIME... AND THAT WAS FROM LOWE TOYOTA FOR 33-THOUSAND DOLLAR WHITE TOYOTA AVALON.
TWO OTHERS CAME IN LATE.
DALEY QUESTIONED THE "RUSH" TO BUY THE CAR.
SHAHEEN CALLED IT A FAIR PROCESS... THAT CITY'S PURCHASING AGENT.. MARK BAKER... HANDLED CORRECTLY.
Mayor Chuck Shaheen, Warner Robins: "He sent it to all the car dealers in town. Only one was brought back on time. I asked Mark to call the other ones and try to get them to bid on it. Didn't have much feeback on it, so we just went with the lowest bidder."
SHAHEEN SAID HE CAN PICK-UP THE CAR AS EARLY AS TOMORROW.
ALSO TONIGHT.. COUNCIL LOOKED AT A POSSIBLE CHANGE TO THE CITY'S NEPOTISM POLICY.
IF PASSED.. IT WOULD ALLOW RELATIVES OF CITY DEPARTMENT HEADS TO BE HIRED INTO OTHER CITY DEPARTMENTS.
SHAHEEN SAID IT WOULD STILL PROHIBIT FAMILY MEMBERS FROM SUPERVISING RELATIVES.
Mayor Chuck Shaheen: "It's best if you are a department head that your family can't work directly for you, but you can be employed by the City of Warner Robins."
SHAHEEN SAYS THE CURRENT NEPOTISM POLICY FORCES THE CITY TO OVERLOOK QUALIFIED CANDIDATES.
HE SAYS IF CHANGED... IT WOULD NOT AFFECT THE EMPLOYMENT OF ANY CURRENT CITY EMPLOYEES.

MACON'S N-DOUBLE-A-C-P IS CONTINUING ITS PROTEST AGAINST A CONFEDERATE FLAG OUTSIDE THE DODGE COUNTY COURTHOUSE... AND TONIGHT... THEY TOOK THEIR CONCERNS TO THE COUNTY COMMISSION.

PEOPLE WHO ATTENDED THE RALLY SAID IT'S TIME FOR COMMISSIONERS TO LISTEN TO THEIR CONCERNS ABOUT TEH FLAG..
Harry Hand:..and we don't want our children to come up and have that legacy on what's up on that flag. We want 'em to feel unity and love.
Sandra Northcutt:...It's sad you know that we as people can't come together and agree on something I think is important.
DAVID BOOKER SAYS ORGANIZERS PLAN TO HOLD A MEETING LATER THIS MONTH... TO DECIDE HOW TO PROCEED.

WHETHER YOU'RE ON THE GO AT A COFFEE SHOP OR AN AIRPORT... YOU CAN PULL OUT YOUR ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND HOP ON THE INTERNET.
BUT THOSE CONNECTIONS AREN'T VERY SECURE... AND HACKERS HAVE FOUND EASY WAYS TO SNEAK INTO YOUR ACCOUNTS.
C-NET'S KARA (SUE-BOY) EXPLAINS... IN THIS WEEK'S GEEK 13.
<<
TRACK ONE: Call it one-touch hacking. Quick and easy ways for hackers to spy into your private accounts.

Kevin Mahaffey / CTO, Lookout Mobile Security
I have an application on here that can attack a local wifi network and listen to all of the data that's being sent over it that's not secure.

TRACK TWO: Some CNET colleagues volunteered their accounts so security expert Kevin Mahaffey could try to hack into them.

Kevin Mahaffey / CTO, Lookout Mobile Security
So here we see multiple Facebook accounts, Youtube, Amazon account that are all being logged into on this local wifi network near us. And we can -- with just a tap -- log in to their accounts.

TRACK THREE: So he did...and changed Kevin Hahn's Facebook status.

Kevin Mahaffey / CTO, Lookout Mobile Security
And we just posted to his wall.

Kevin Hahn / CNET
It makes me think about the security of the internet and what I do wirelessly.

TRACK FOUR: The reason these hacking programs exist is so researchers can find loopholes and problems before the bad guys do.

Elinor Mills / CNET Senior Writer
This is a way of putting pressure on Facebook and other companies to provide secure connections to their websites for their consumers.

TRACK FIVE: But there are ways to browse safely while connected to public wifi.

Kevin Mahaffey / CTO, Lookout Mobile Security
So on Facebook, I'm going to go into my account, click on account settings. And under that, there's an account security section and you simply check "secure browsing: https" which is different than http. The "s" means it's secure. You can click save and now every time you log into Facebook in the future, it will use a secure way of transmitting data to Facebook.

TRACK SIX: While Mahaffey says browsing on an https enabled page can be a bit slower, it's the only way to guarantee your personal accounts stay secure.
