HELLO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.
I'M LEAH JOHNSON..

AND I'M LORRA LYNCH JONES..FRANK MALLOY HAS THE NIGHT OFF.

4 PEOPLE SURVIVED A CAR-TRAIN COLLISION IN HOUSTON COUNTY THIS MORNING.
THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED AT A RAILROAD CROSSING OFF HIGHWAY 2-47 ACROSS FROM THE WARNER ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE.

AS CANDACE ADORKA REPORTS... ONE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER SAYS HE'S SEEN ACCIDENTS AT THAT INTERSECTION MANY TIMES.

<<
SERGEANT KENNETH BECK WITH THE HOUSTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS THE DRIVER OF THIS CAR THOUGHT HE HAD ENOUGH TIME TO CROSS THE TRIAIN TRACKS EVEN THOGUH WARNING LIGHTS WERE FLASHING.
Beck: "He pulled onto the the tracks and then realised that the train was only about 30 or 40 yards away and based on witness statements, he just froze on the track then the trian struck him."
BECK SAYS THE 4 PEOPLE IN THE CAR WERE DAZED AND HAD ONLY MINOR INJURIES... THAT'S SOMETHING HE DID NOT EXPECT.
Beck: "I've been here 13 years and this is the first time i've ever seen a vehicle versus train accident at this intersection where we did not have a fatality."
ALL THE RAILROAD CROSSINGS IN HOUSTON COUNTY ON HIGHWAY 2-47 HAVE THESE SAFETY ARMS THAT DROP WHEN A TRAIN APROACHING.... ALL EXCEPT IGNICO DRIVE.
YVETTE BROWN IS PRINCIPAL AT THE CHIRSTIAN FELLOWSHIP ACADEMY DOWN THE STREET....
SHE SAYS SHE'S SEENS MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS AT THAT INTERSECTION.
Brown: "the one that sticks out most for me probably was about 3 years ago... there were 2 young women on their way to work, one was on the phone."
BROWN SAYS THAT MIGHT BE ONE ACCIDENT SAFETY ARMS COULD HAVE PREVENTED... BUT WHAT PEOPLE REALLY NEED IS MORE PATIENCE.
Brown: "I've seen people try to run and beat the crossbar as well. If it were here, they would do the same, I'm sure. There's certain people who would."
SHE SAYS THIS LATEST ACCIDENT SHOULD BE A LESSON.
Brown: "some things just aren't worth the risk... trying to beat a train is one of them."
