C. Jack Ellis, Mayoral Candidate: "Are we not going to listen to the citizens of this community? Or are we going to continue to shove down their throats and literally bulldoze their community and destorying mature trees and all the other havoc we will wreck on the environment out here? I say no."
INSTEAD... HE SAYS... PUTTING IN A ROUNDABOUT... LIKE THIS ONE ... WOULD KEEP TRAFFIC FLOWING... AT FOREST HILL AND RIDGE AVENUE.
Nats, shutting date

Jack Thomas, Macon: "I come home now, and I turn into Drury and come into my driveway. If they do what they're talking about doing, I'll have to go all the way down Ridge Avenue up to the Alexander school and turn through there and all the way back down to get into my driveway."

C. Jack Ellis: "Just try to get them to understand and work with the people in this community."
AMY AUBERT... 13 WMAZ... EYEWITNESS NEWS. >>
LARSON SAYS THE PROJECT'S ESTIMATED COST...IS AROUND 10 MILLION DOLLARS.
MOST OF THAT WOULD COME FROM FEDERAL FUNDING.
THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME C. JACK ELLIS HAS FACED ROBERT REICHERT AND ROBERT BROWN IN AN ELECTION.
LATER IN THE SHOW... WE'LL TAKE YOU BACK 20 YEARS AGO THIS SUMMER...WHEN THE THREE FIRST CROSSED PATHS ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL.
STARTING NEXT MONTH - WHEN YOU DRIVE PAST A BICYCLIST... STATE LAW SAYS MOVE OVER.
THE NEW LAW TAKES EFFECT JULY FIRST.
IT MAKES IT A MISDEMEANOR TO DRIVE WITHIN 3 FEET OF A CYCLIST TRAVELING IN THE SAME DIRECTION.
THE LAW IS DESIGNED TO PROTECT PEOPLE LIKE ANGELA MICHAEL...
LAST FEBRUARY SHE WAS RIDING DOWN HOUSTON LAKE ROAD WHEN A FORD F150 HIT HER FROM BEHIND.
MICHAEL SAYS SHE HOPES THE LAW WILL GIVE MOTORISTS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.Angela Michael "I'm hoping that maybe it there's more focus on that, is there are stronger penalties on failure to give a cyclist proper room when they're riding on the road, that maybe... maybe people will pay attention a little but mor ethan they have."
THE LAW CLARIFIES THE OLD LAW....WHICH SIMPLY SAYS DRIVERS MUST PASS BICYCLISTS AT A "SAFE DISTANCE."
TODAY'S 13WMAZ DOT COM WEB POLL ASKS... DO YOU MOVE OVER FOR BICYCLISTS WHILE DRIVING?
SO FAR... 90 PERCENT OF YOU SAY YOU DO.

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND... EVEN IN MACON POLITICS.
FORMER STATE SENATOR ROBERT BROWN.. FORMER MAYOR C. JACK ELLIS AND CURRENT MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT.. ALONG WITH FORMER MACON FIREFIGHTER PAUL BRONSON.. ARE RUNING FOR THE CITY'S TOP JOB..
BRONSON'S THE NEW PERSON IN THE MIX..

<<TWO DECADES AGO.. TOMMY OLMSTEAD LIVENED UP MACON POLITICS BY RESIGNING HIS STATE SENATE SEAT AND JOINING THE RACE FOR MACON MAYOR.
THE SENATE RACE DREW A COUPLE OF CANDIDATES WHO HELD LOCAL OFFICE.. COUNCILMAN ROBERT REICHERT.. AND SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER ROBERT BROWN.
IT ALSO DREW A COUPLE OF NEWCOMERS.. ACCOUNTANT JAKE MULLIS AND RETIRED ARMY SERGEANT.. C. JACK ELLIS.
THIS YEAR.. BROWN.. ELLIS.. AND REICHERT BUTT HEADS AGAIN.. THIS TIME FOR MACON MAYOR.
36:58:29 Robert Reichert, Macon Mayor: I think that it's interesting and certainly fair to look back 20 years and say who were the candidates then and what was the outcome then. This is a different time. This is a different election.
ELLIS SAYS HE LEARNED FROM THE EXPERIENCE.
44:26 C. Jack Ellis, Former Macon Mayor: I was really encouraged that I had not lived in this town in my hometown since I was 18 years old, and I moved back in my 40s and I could enter a race after being here two years against two men who had already been in politics for some time and come within 200 votes of being in the runoff.
BROWN BEAT THE CURRENT MAYOR IN THAT RUNOFF....BUT HE'S STILL ANGRY ABOUT REICHERT'S CAMPAIGN TACTICS.
2:59:15 Robert Brown, Mayoral Candidate: Robert Reichert ran one of the nastiest campaigns against me in 1991. he criticized me for using Martin Luther King in my ads, he questioned my patriotism, he questioned my commitment to the community. But the Robert Reichert of 2011 is talking about unity.
Randall Savage, Eyewitness News: That was twenty years ago, the summer of 1991. Robert Brown, of course, won the Senate seat and held it until a few days ago when he resigned to run for mayor.
Randall Savage.. 13 WMAZ EYEWITNESS NEWS.
>> NEWCOMER C-JACK ELLIS FINISHED THIRD IN THAT SENATE RACE..BUT EIGHT YEARS LATER.. HE WAS ELECTED MAYOR AND SERVED TWO TERMS.

FOUR YEARS AGO... HE WON THE MAYOR'S OFFICE WHEN ELLIS MOVED OUT.
THE FOURTH MAYORAL CANDIDATE THIS YEAR...PAUL BRONSON HAS NO MEMORIES OF THE 1991 RACE....HE WAS SIX YEARS OLD.
