WATER PRESSURE IS BACK TO NORMAL AFTER A PUMP PROBLEM AT THE MACON WATER AUTHORITY THIS AFTERNOON.
THAT PROBLEM LEFT DOWNTOWN MACON WITH LOW WATER PRESSURE FOR A FEW HOURS..
WATER AUTHORITY ASSISTANT DIRECTOR RAY SHELL SAYS A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION AROUND 3 P-M CAUSED THE PUMPS THAT CREATE WATER PRESSURE TO STOP WORKING.
HE SAYS CUSTOMERS IN DOWNTOWN MACON MAY HAVE NOTICED A DECREASE IN WATER PRESSURE FOR SEVERAL HOURS.
SHELL SAYS THE COMPUTERS WERE WORKING BY SEVEN FIFTEEN TONIGHT AND NORMAL WATER PRESSURE WAS RESTORED TO MOST HOUSEHOLDS.
BUT SHELL SAYS THEY NEED CUSTOMERS HELP TO GET THE SYSTEM ENTIRELY RESTORED.
"We need assistance from the customers to curtail their water use, particuarily lawn watering and car washing and so forth to help us restore the water storage in the system to get back where we need to be."
SHELL SAYS BY MORNING CUSTOMERS CAN USE THEIR WATER NORMALLY.
THE MACON CITY COUNCIL COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE GOT GOOD NEWS FROM FORT HAWKINS PRESS OFFICER MARTY WILLETT TODAY.
WILLETT SAYS THE FORT RECIEVED A ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR PEYTON ANDERSON GRANT TO DO EXCAVATIONS.
BUT THE MEETING TURNED TENSE WHEN COUNCILMEMBERS BEGAN QUESTIONING WILLETT'S ROLE ON THE FORT'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
WILLETT CURRENTLY RECIEVES FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR AS AN EMPLOYEE OF THE FORT.
HE ALSO SERVES ON THE NON-PROFIT'S BOARD.
COUNCIL MEMBERS LARRY SCHELESINGER AND LAUREN BENEDICT CALLED THE ARRANGMENT HIGHLY UNUSUAL.
BENEDICT SAYS SHE'S CONCERNED IT COULD JEOPARDIZE FUTURE GRANT PROPOSALS... IF WILLETT'S EMPLOYEMENT IS PERCIEVED AS A CONFLICT OF INTEREST.
FELLOW FORT HAWKINS BOARD MEMBER ED DEFORE SAYS HE'S DOESN'T QUESTION WILLETT'S DEDICATION TO THE FORT... BUT SAYS HE THINKS THE ONLY WAY WILLETT CAN REMAIN ON THE BOARD IS TO BECOME AN EX-OFFICIO MEMBER...
HE SAYS THAT MEANS WILLETT WOULD GIVE UP HIS VOTE.
Councilman Ed Defore: "We want to continue to work closely with Marty. If it means him being an ex-officio member, and drawing that little old minimal salary 52 weeks a year, I'm in favor of that."
THE COUNCIL COMMITTEE DELAYED TAKING ANY ACTION ON THE ISSUE... UNTIL THEY CONSULT MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT.
REICHERT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR APPOINTING BOARD MEMBERS.
BIBB COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WANT TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS ON TOUGHER SMOKING RESTRICTIONS.
COMMISSIONERS DECIDED TO PUSH FOR A JOINT PUBLIC HEARING WITH THE CITY OF MACON NEXT MONTH.
THE BOARD BEGAN TALKING ABOUT A POSSIBLE COUNTY SMOKING ORDINANCE TWO WEEKS AGO.
TODAY... COMMISSIONERS ASKED QUESTIONS AND RAISED CONCERNS TO REPRESENTATIVES FROM BREATHE EASY MACON... THE GROUP WORKING WITH THE CITY ON ITS RESTRICTIONS.
THEY DISCUSSED HOW OTHER CITIES ENFORCE SMOKING RULES... AND WHERE THE RESTRICTIONS WOULD APPLY.
COMMISSONERS ELMO RICHARDSON AND BERT BIVENS SAY THERE MIGHT NOT BE ANY MORE ROOM TO RESTRICT SMOKING.
Bert Bivins: " People who smoke have made the adjustments, they don't smoke in a lot of places. So i'm just trying to figure out now where do people smoke that they don't need to."
Elmo Richardson. "I don't like being around people that smoke. I am around people that smoke occasionally and it;s not a problem with me. I don't particularly like it but they certainly have their rights to do what they wanna do with their bodies."
MACON CITY OFFICIALS ARE PLANNING THEIR PUBLIC HEARING AFTER THE MID-JULY ELECTIONS... BUT HAVEN'T SET A DATE.
TODAY'S 13WMAZ DOT COM WEB POLL QUESTION ASKS... WILL A SMOKING BAN AFFECT YOUR CHOICE OF RESTAURANT?

2:33:18 Robert Brown, Democratic Mayoral Candidate: That church, every church member and every other church member that they know throughout this city, if they have an account with Bank of America, they ought to shut it down.
BROWN DIDN'T KNOW WHY BANK OF AMERICA DENIED THE LOAN AND SAYS HE DOESN'T WANT TO KNOW.

EVERY DAY IN GEORGIA SIXTY-TWO TEENAGE GIRLS FIND OUT THEY'RE PREGNANT AND OFFICIALS IN PULASKI COUNTY ARE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
THEY'VE TEAMED UP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA'S ARCHWAY PARTNERSHIP AND THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF AFFAIRS TO SIGN A COMMUNITY OF OPPORTUNITY CONTRACT.
THE TWO YEAR INITIATIVE WILL TARGET SEVENTH THROUGH TWELVTH GRADE BOYS AND GIRLS IN HOPES OF REDUCING TEEN PREGNANCY.
SPEAKERS WILL HOLD FORUMS FOR STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS TO HIGHLIGHT PREGNANCY PREVENTION.
AS A PREVIEW FOR PROM SEASON.... STUDENTS CAN TAKE PART IN A LIFE SIZE MAZE IN THE SCHOOL GYM THAT GIVES THEM A CHANCE TO THINK ABOUT THEIR DECISIONS BEFORE MAKING THEM.
Michelle Elliott, Archwaty Professional: "Georgia has the 2nd highest rate in repeat teen pregnancies."
Vonnie Berryhill, Family Connection Coordinator for Pulaski County: "We have a real issue with the girls. They seem to be starting younger.
I mean, we've had some in middle school and they repeat.
It's not you know, I did this the first time.
They end up having another child before the age of graduation."
THE PROGRAM HAS REDUCED THE TEEN PREGNANCY RATE BY TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT IN OTHER COUNTIES IN GEORGIA..

FARMER JAMES JEANES SAYS.... IN JONES COUNTY... THE SEVERE DROUGHT MAKES RAISING CATTLE MORE DIFFICULT.
HE SAYS THERE'S NOT ENOUGH GRASS TO FEED THE HERD... SO HE SPENDS 400 DOLLARS A DAY ON HAY.
THE FARM'S TWO PONDS ARE AT THE LOWEST LEVELS HE'S SEEN... AND HE SAYS THEY'RE SO HOT... THE CATTLE WON'T DRINK FROM THEM.
James Jeanes, Jones County: "Typically, the cattle would just drink out of these small ponds and all, but the water has gotten so low that some of the fish have died in the ponds. The water's probably not healthy for them right now, and plus with the heat and all, I'm sure it doesn't taste very good to them. They'll walk by these little ponds now and go up to drink out of the water that comes out of our well. Of course, the more water they drink out of the well, that's just added expense because you have to pay the electric bill to run the well for a herd of cattle to drink out of."
JEANES SAYS... ALL OF HIS COWS ARE ABOUT 100 POUNDS UNDERWEIGHT.
THE F-C-C IS CRACKING DOWN ON WHAT'S CALLED "CRAMMING."
THE TERM IS USED TO DESCRIBE UNAUTHORIZED FEES THAT POP UP ON MONTHLY PHONE BILLS.
THE CHARGES ARE DIFFICULT TO SPOT... SO MOST CUSTOMERS WIND UP PAYING THEM WITHOUT KNOWING IT.
ALEXIS CHRISTOFOROUS HAS MORE.
SAMANTHA MALONE OPENED HER CELL PHONE BILL ONE DAY AND DISCOVERED SHE'D BEEN CHARGED FOR A GAME SHE NEVER ORDERED.
(Samantha Malone/Cramming Victim)
I saw a charge I think it was for 9.99 and I didn't ever remember subscribing to anything that would warrant that charge.
(TRACK 2 )
MALONE WAS A VICTIM OF CRAMMING -- UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES THAT MYSTERIOUSLY APPEAR ON MONTHLY PHONE BILLS.
THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION ESTIMATES SHE'S ONE OF 20 MILLION AMERICANS WHO'VE BEEN SCAMMED THAT WAY,
(SOT Julius Genachowski, FCC Chairman)
16:39 The charges can be for voice mail or long distance that the consumer didn't request. 16:47
(BRIDGE/Alexis Christoforous/CBS News, New York)
THE CHARGES USUALLY RANGE FROM $1.99 TO $19.99. BUT ONLY ABOUT 5-PERCENT OF CONSUMERS REALIZE THEY'RE BEING RIPPED OFF BECAUSE THE FEES ARE HARD TO SPOT.
Regulators are now working on new rules to crack down on the problem, and they're setting up a tip sheet.. to help people recognize and report suspicious charges.
11:27:21 you can call a third party charge, that number should be on the bill, or call your phone company 11:27:29
(TRACK FIVE )

>> LAST WEEK... THE F-C-C PROPOSED MORE THAN 11 MILLION DOLLARS IN FINES AGAINST FOUR COMPANIES ACCUSED OF ILLEGALLY BILLING TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS FOR UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES.

HERE'S C-NET'S KARA (SUE-BOY) TSUBOI WITH A FEW MUSIC OPTIONS FOR ANDROID OWNERS.
These days many smartphones, are also our mini music machines. Here are 5 of CNET's favorite music player apps for the Android.
First the Amazon Cloud Player. It's free and you can buy, play and store your music all on the cloud. Similar to iTunes, but on a cloud system.
Next is MixZing. The more you use it, the more music it will suggest music to match your genre taste. A bit like Apple's Genius for iTunes. It also has built in artist information and direct links to the artists' You Tube videos.
The third is Tune Wikki. This is a free app geared more towards the lyric lovers...since they appear on screen while you hear the music playing. Good training for that upcoming karaoke contest. You can also direct which songs you want to hear through the Google Voice Service.
Number four: Power Amp. Perfect for those obsessed with the sound quality of their music. You can equalize each song to make them sound great. The app does cost five dollars, but there is a 15 day trial period.
And last but not least, The Player Pro App has just about everything you need. Not only can you search and download lyrics, but it has social network integration. This is the DO ALL Android Music player App.
