OUR TOP STORY AT SIX... SOME PRETTY STRONG STORMS ARE MOVING INTO CENTRAL GEORGIA..
FOR THE LATEST ON THE STORMS AND HOW THINGS COULD SHAPE UP TONIGHT... WE JOIN CHIEF METEOROLOGIST BEN JONES IN THE WEATHER CENTER.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Bibb, Houston, Twiggs County until 6:45 p.m.

CANDIDATE FOR MACON MAYOR ROBERT BROWN CONTINUED HIS CAMPAIGN AGAINST PROSTITUTION.
AND TODAY HE TOOK CREDIT FOR THE ARREST OF FOUR ALLEGED PROSTITUTES THIS WEEK...
BROWN SAID POLICE ACTED BECAUSE HE SPOKE OUT ABOUT PROSTITUTION EARLIER THIS WEEK.
BROWN HELD HIS NEWS CONFERENCE AT A VACANT APARTMENT HOUSE..AND SAID IT'S USED BY PROSTITUTES AND OTHER CRIMINALS.
BUT MACON POLICE DECLINED TO SAY WHETHER PROSTITUTION IS A PROBLEM THERE. THEY ALSO SAID THE ARRESTS WERE PART OF A REGULAR DETAIL...NOT INSPIRED BY BROWN.
THE FORMER STATE SENATOR SAID HE USED THE VACANT HOME TO MAKE A POINT.
Robert Brown, Democratic Mayoral Candidate: This is an opportunity here for us to understand that there are these blighted areas here. They're left open. Children can wander through them. They can be injured in the process in the process of doing that, and in order to demonstrate that, I wanted people to see that in this community.
WE TRIED TO CONTACT THE OWNER OF THE BUILDING WHERE BROWN HELD HIS NEWS CONFERENCE....HE DID NOT RETURN OUR PHONE CALL.
WHEN WE ASKED, BROWN SAID HE DID NOT ASK FOR PERMISSION TO ENTER THE HOME.
BROWN IS ONE OF FOUR DEMOCRATS SEEKING THE MAYOR'S OFFICE..THE OTHERS ARE FORMER MAYOR C. JACK ELLIS.. FORMER FIREFIGHTER PAUL BRONSON.. AND MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT.

THE JONES COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE RAIDED TWELVE CONVENIENCE STORES TODAY..
SHERIFF BUTCH REECE SAYS THEY CONFISCATED MORE THAN SEVENTY FIVE GAMING MACHINES USED FOR ILLEGAL GAMBLING.
HE SAYS THE RAID COMES AFTER A TWO MONTH UNDER COVER INVESTIGATION.
REECE SAYS THEY WENT TO STORES WHERE UNDERCOVER OFFICERS AND INFORMANTS RECEIVED ILLEGAL CASH PAY-OUTS.
THE SHERIFF SAYS ILLEGAL GAMBLING IS ON THE RISE IN JONES COUNTY.
REECE SAYS THE SITUATION HAS GOTTEN OUT OF HAND."We had a place, we sent a car just to park around to deter robbers, we were asked to move our car it was hurting their gambling b business and their beer sales on Sunday."
REECE SAYS AT ONE STORE... THEY FOUND ABOUT NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS IN CASH...
HE SAYS IT WAS ALL GAMBLING PROCEEDS... KEPT SEPARATE FROM THE STORE'S CASH..
THE SHERIFF SAYS SINCE THE STORE OWNERS DON'T OWN THE MACHINES... IT'S DIFFICULT TO PROSECUTE THEM.
INSTEAD HE SAYS... THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE INTENDS TO GO AFTER THE OWNERS WHO LEASE THE MACHINES OUT.

STATE TEST RESULTS SHOW THAT THE STAFF AT A BONAIRE RESTAURANT... IS TUBERCULOSIS FREE.
EARLIER THIS WEEK... WE TOLD YOU ABOUT THE SAIGON NOODLE HOUSE... WHERE ONE FORMER EMPLOYEE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH T-B... AND 10 CURRENT WORKERS TESTED POSITIVE FOR EXPOSURE TO THE DISEASE.
JENNIFER JONES WITH THE NORTH CENTRAL HEALTH DISTRICT SAYS CHEST X-RAYS FOR ALL CURRENT STAFF MEMBERS GIVE THEM A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH.
SHE SAYS EVERYONE WHO'S BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE FORMER WORKER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.
THERE ARE NO NEW CASES.
STATE HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY TUBERCULOSIS IS NOT SPREAD BY CASUAL CONTACT.
THEY SAY THE RESTAURANT HANDLED THE MATTER PROPERLY... AND THERE WAS NO HEALTH RISK TO ITS CUSTOMERS.

THE FIELDS ARE NOW SET FOR TWO STATE RACES ON THE JULY 19TH BALLOT.
QUALIFYING ENDED TODAY...
IN THE STATE SENATE DISTRICT 26 RACE.
FORMER STATE REPRESENTATIVE DAVID LUCAS IS RUNNING FOR ROBERT BROWN'S OLD SEAT..HE'S A DEMOCRAT
ALSO RUNNING... REPUBLICAN BOBBY GALE OF IRWINTON...A MINISTER.
AND MACON CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT MIRIAM PARIS... ALSO A DEMOCRAT.
ALL THREE SENATE CANDIDATES WILL RUN IN A SINGLE FIELD. ...THERE'S NO PRIMARY.
THE RACE SHOULD BE DECIDED NEXT MONTH... UNLESS THERE IS A RUN-OFF.

MEANWHILE...TWO CENTRAL GEORGIANS ARE WORKING TO FILL DAVID LUCAS' STATE HOUSE SEAT FOR DISTRICT 139.
THE TWO DEMOCRATS QUALIFIED TODAY AND TALKED ABOUT THEIR GOALS IF ELECTED.
JAMES BEVERLY SAYS HE PLANS TO TACKLE LOCAL ISSUES LIKE UNEMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION.
HIS OPPONENT... ANISSA ( ah-knee-sah ) JONES SAYS SHE'S SUITED FOR THE POSITION BECAUSE OF HER ROOTS IN DISTRICT 139.
HE'S AN EYE DOCTOR...SHE'S A CHIROPRACTOR.
BOTH CANDIDATES SAY THEY HAVE A PASSION FOR MAKING THE DISTRICT MORE ATTRACTIVE TO EMPLOYERS AND RESIDENTS.
"I believe that our number one problem in this community is poverty. Folk just not working. We don't have the means to advance the whole populus. Anything we can do to stimulate economic growth i think is a great thing."

THE COMPANY USES LOGS FROM POPLAR AND SWEET GUM TREES.

Sean Nelson, Employee: "We cut them down to seventeen inches and we run them through a veneering machine which peels them out into a sheet." "Then we run them through a chopping machine."

Jennifer Moulliet, Eyewitness News: "Sean Nelson, a worker here at Georgia Chopsticks says they make 2400 chopsticks a minute that's close to 1 million chopsticks per day."

THEIR MACHINES RUN ABOUT 12 HOURS A DAY....BUT THE COMPANY WANTS TO EXPAND.

David Hughes, Part-Owner: "What we would like to do is run this plant 24 hours a day and do three to four million chopsticks fairly quickly."

PART-OWNER DAVID HUGHES HAS BEEN IN CONSTRUCTION FOR THIRTY SEVEN YEARS. HE SAYS HE GOT INTO THE CHOPSTICK BUSINESS.. AFTER A FRIENDLY MEETING LAST OCTOBER

David Hughes, Part-Owner: "I met these guys from Korea and and just conversations about needs in Asia and we discussed wood so we went to my farm and cut trees and sent them to Asia they seemed to work so we bought some equipment."

EIGHT MONTHS AND THREE LOCATIONS LATER.... THE FACTORY IS GROWING IN AMERICUS. HUGHES SAYS THEIR ASIAN BUYERS PREFER THE GEORGIA WOOD...AND THEIR LOW PRICES.

Sean Nelson, Employee: "Well now China will be getting something that says made in the USA instead of all of us getting our products saying made in China."

POLICE SAY.... RON KILLGO HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH MANUFACTURING METH..
AND DAVID NEEL DOLES IS CHARGED WITH MANUFACTURING METH...OBSTRUCTION...AND HEROIN POSSESSION.
