SO FAR NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED..THE ACCIDENT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

A CITY AUDIT OF THE MACON ANIMAL CONTROL DEPARTMENT REVEALED ABOUT EIGHTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS IN CASH WENT MISSING BETWEEN JULY OF 2010 AND MAY OF 2011.
COUNCILMAN TOM ELLINGTON SAYS HE REQUESTED THE AUDIT AFTER BUDGET HEARINGS SHOWED ANIMAL CONTROL DIDN'T TAKE IN ANY MORE MONEY DESPITE AN INCREASE IN ANIMAL ADOPTIONS.
ACCORDING TO THE AUDIT... ANIMAL CONTROL ONLY TAKES PAYMENTS IN CASH FOR THINGS LIKE ADOPTIONS AND BOARDING... BUT DID NOT FOLLOW PROPER PROCEDURES FOR DOCUMENTING AND TURNING IN THE MONEY.
COUNCILMAN ELLINGTON SAYS HE DOESN'T KNOW IF SLOPPY ACCOUNTING OR CRIMINAL ACTIVITY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MISSING MONEY..
Tom Ellington: "I don't know which it is but either way it needs to stop and if it's evidence of criminal activity than that needs to be documented and prosecuted."
ELLINGTON SAYS HE'S CONCERNED THAT SINCE ALL OF THE MISSING MONEY WAS CASH... IT MAY BE DIFFICULT TO TRACK DOWN EXACTLY WHERE IT WENT.

MACON CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS WANT NEW IDEAS FOR WHAT TO DO WITH NEARLY ONE AND HALF MILLION DOLLARS IN GRANT MONEY.
THE MONEY WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED TO REDEVELOP THE ATLANTIC COTTON MILL BUILDING OFF PIO NONO AVENUE BUT DEVELOPERS ABANDONED THAT PROJECT AFTER THE MILL BURNED DOWN IN MARCH.
NOW COUNCIL WANTS A NEW PROJECT TO SPEND THE GRANT MONEY ON.
DURING A TUESDAY NIGHT WORKSESSION MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT SAYS THEY PLAN TO TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT OLD PROPOSALS BUT ALSO LOOK FOR NEW PLANS.
HE SAYS THIS TYPE OF GRANT REQUIRES THE DEVELOPER TO PAY THE GRANT BACK TO THE CITY... AND THAT MEANS IT'S ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE MONEY IN MACON.
Macon Mayor Robert Reichert. "And as it's paid back it doesn't go back to the state it stays in the community and forms a revolving loan fund that can then do other projects later down the road."
REICHERT SAYS THE CITY PLANS TO STARTING WORKING WITH THE MIDDLE GEORGIA REGIONAL COMMISSION IMMEDIATLY TO START LOOKING FOR NEW IDEAS..

AT LEAST TWO PEOPLE PLAN TO RUN FOR THE DISTRICT 26 STATE SENATE SEAT THAT ROBERT BROWN RESIGNED FROM TO RUN FOR MACON MAYOR.
STATE REPRESENTATIVE DAVID LUCAS AND MACON CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT MIRIAM PARIS.
WE SAT DOWN WITH PARIS DURING A TAPING OF THIS WEEK'S CLOSE UP PROGRAM TO TALK ABOUT HER DECISION TO RUN FOR THE SENATE SEAT.
"I knew that I wasn't going to run for city council again and I was really going to back out of city government once I decided i wasn't going to run for the mayor's office. I then started looking at the senate seat and to take me from city council which is a legislative position over into another legislative position is not such a learning curve anymore for me."
PARIS SAYS IF SHE WINS THE SEAT.. SHE'LL WORK HARD TO MAKE SURE THAT DISTRICT 26 ISN'T OVERLOOKED WHEN IT COMES TO BRINGING JOBS AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES TO THE AREA.
DISTRICT 26 INCLUDES PARTS OF BIBB.. HOUSTON...AND WILKINSON COUNTIES... AND ALL OF TWIGGS COUNTY.
YOU CAN WATCH CLOSE UP AT NOON SATURDAY AND AT 6AM SUNDAY RIGHT HERE ON 13WMAZ...

THE GEORGIA MUSIC HALL OF FAME CLOSED ITS DOORS IN MACON LAST SUNDAY BUT ONE GROUP WANTS TO MAKE SURE THE CITY DOESN'T LOSE ITS MUSICAL HERITAGE.
THE GATEWAY INITIATIVE ANNOUNCED A MACON MUSIC CONTEST THIS AFTERNOON..
ANY MUSICIAN 18 OR OLDER CAN ENTER HIS OR HER WORK BUT SONG LYRICS MUST REFERENCE MACON IN SOME WAY.
THE GRAND PRIZE INCLUDES A PROFESSIONAL STUDIO RECORDING OF A THREE-SONG E-P.... A MUSIC VIDEO... C-D RELEASE PARTY AND A PUBLIC PERFORMANCE.
GRAMMY NOMINATED MACON NATIVE STEVE MORETTI WILL PRODUCE THE WINNING MUSICIAN'S MUSIC VIDEO.
HE SAYS THE CONTEST IS A WAY TO SHOWCASE MACON'S MUSICAL FLAVOR.
There's a lot of great things that can happen here in Macon and I think that's our goal. You don't have to live in a major major city to make wonderiul things and to reach people on a national and international level.

THE SHOW MIGHT BE OVER... BUT THE TECH WORLD IS STILL TALKING ABOUT SEOM BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS AT THIS YEAR'S ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT EXPO... OR E-3.
CNET'S SCOTT STEIN WAS FRONT AND CENTER AT THE EXPO.
WE CAUGHT UP WITH HIM VIA SKYPE TO GET HIS PERSPECTIVE ON THE SHOW IN THIS WEEK'S GEEK 13.
Well it'shard to avoid talking about the Wii U, that's the one that's definitely getting a lot of chatter because Nintendo took the spotlight with the Wii and the Nintendo DS and their sales have been flagging as of lately. It looks like their trying to get back some of that family friendly suit everybody type of gaming. That device that they showed looks alot like the iPad but it's actually meant to be a tablet that works with a future console that'll probably be available some time next year. And I think it's the most future-tech type device that I think we saw on the whole show floor.

Ok, now how much does something like this run?

We don't even know yet, the price has not yet been announced. That's different than the other big hardware debut at E3 which was the Playstation Vita that small hand-held portable gaming system that Sony has announced. now that's costing about two hundred fifty dollars and that will be released somewhere around the end of the year, probably somewhere aroundthe Thanksgiving time-frame. and that looks great but it really doesn't look much more different than
an advanced PSP more recognizable game hardware.

Can you tell us a little bit more about Sony's announcement? this handheld device that they're featuring, are you excited about it? Are people excited about it?

I think people are really excited about the price. you know it was reall smart to have it only cost two hundred and fifty dollars, you know I say only, but compared to the Nintendo 3DS and you know five hundred dollar devices like the iPad it seems competitive that way, the real question is going to be it's undeniably very impressive hardware, it seems really forward graphically but do people want to carry a seperate gaming device that's not their smart phone? The question is has the iPhone or andriod phones snuck in there and taken a piece of mobile gaming that won't be given back. And I guess we'll have to see how the sales do, but you know, the Nintendo DS and the PSP the sales have been dropping and it's not clear whether its because it's old hardware or whether because people have moved to a whole new definition of mobile gaming.

Can you talk about some of the new hottest new video games out there? Anything that really piqued your intrest?

Well it's a lot of sequels, so if you liked what you saw before you saw more of it this year, and a lot of familiar genres. you got your racing games, you got your shooting games. One of my favorite things on the show, for its creativity and story line, was Bioshock Infinite, one that a lot of people are talking about. It's alo a sequel, it's actually the third in a series but its really a sequel to the first game, Bioshock that was a huge hit a couple years ago. But that's something I really loved for its world almost like a Terry Gilliam movie. You know something that in the same way you don't see many Hollywood movies taking creative risks. You didn't see that many E3 games from big studios that took big creative risks in what they looked like and what the stories were.

AS YOU LOG ON TO TAKE CARE OF BANKING... SOCIALIZING AND BILL PAYING... THE LIST OF PASSWORDS TO REMEMBER CAN QUICKLY GROW.
CNET'S BRIAN COOLEY HAS A COUPLE OF TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN IT COMES TO KEEPING YOUR ACCOUNTS SECThere are just three things you have to know about passwords. Number one, create complicated ones that are hard to remember. They're better passwords. Number two, change them often, at least every six months. And number three, don't spam passwords. Don't use the same password for more than one important log-ins."URED.
IF MEMORIZING THAT NEWLY-COMPLICATED PASSWORD LIST SEEMS LIKE A DAUNTING TASK... DON'T WORRY TOO MUCH.
BRIAN HAS AN ANSWER FOR THAT AS WELL.
Now all these good password tips make passwords harder to remember. There's no two ways about it. So consider getting an app for your smartphone--Android, iPhone, whatever you have--that will be a password vault. Secure that with one password, and then within that are all your other passwords. It's a really great way for you to keep these organized."

WE WANT TO KNOW IF YOU TAKE THESE PASSWORD PRECAUTIONS TO HEART.
