HELLO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.
I'M LEAH JOHNSON..
AND I'M FRANK MALLOY..THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX.

AUTHORITIES CONTINUE SEARCHING FOR A CONVICTED MURDERER WHO ESCAPED LAST NIGHT FROM HANCOCK STATE PRISON.
LAUREN DISPIRITO JOINS US WITH MORE ON THE SEARCH.. LAUREN?
LEAH... FRANK... THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS SAYS...
RICHARD JENKINS ESCAPED AROUND EIGHT P-M SUNDAY.
HE IS SERVING A LIFE SENTENCE FOR MURDERING...
MACON STORE CLERK GOPAL PATEL, IN 2004.
IT HAPPENED DURING A ROBBERY AT THE V AND R FOOD STORE ON JEFFERSONVILLE ROAD. NOW IT'S UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP...AND NAMED THE JENISH FOOD STORE.
AUTHORITIES SAY THEY'RE INVESTIGATING HOW JENKINS ESCAPED.
JENKINS HAD BEEN AT HANCOCK STATE PRISON IN SPARTA SINCE AUGUST 2005.
THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS SAYS U.S. MARSHALS ARE LEADING THE SEARCH.
GEORGIA STATE PATROL.. HANCOCK... WASHINGTON.. AND BALDWIN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICES ARE ASSISTING.
ACCORDING TO THE HANCOCK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE... AUTHORITIES SEARCHED FOR JENKINS TODAY NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF LINTON HIGHWAY AND JOHNNY MASHBURN ROAD.
AROUND TWO THIS MORNING... THEY FOUND WHAT LOOKS LIKE A FOOTPRINT FROM AN INMATE'S BOOT.
HOURS LATER.. THEY DISCOVERED A PAIR OF INMATE'S PANTS NEARBY.
AND A TIP SAID JENKINS HAD BEEN SPOTTED ALONG LINTON HIGHWAY.
THIS AFTERNOON... TIPS LED AUTHORITIES TO WASHINGTON COUNTY.. ALONG UNION CHURCH ROAD.
LAW ENFORCEMENT GATHERED OUTSIDE PINEY MOUNT BAPTIST CHURCH.
CANINE TEAMS SEARCHED THE WOODS ... THEY DIDN'T FIND JENKINS.
IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON JENKINS' WHEREABOUTS...THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS SAYS YOU SHOULD CALL YOUR LOCAL AUTHORITIES.
THANKS LAUREN.

ONE EMPLOYEE AT A VIETNAMESE RESTAURANT IN BONAIRE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH TUBERCULOSIS.
THAT CAUSED THE HOUSTON COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO TEST EVERY OTHER EMPLOYEE AT SAIGON NOODLE HOUSE....
INCLUDING THE MANAGER... MINH DOAN (MIN DOHN)
SHE SAYS THE WAITRESS WHO WAS DIAGNOSED NEVER SHOWED ANY SIGNS OF BEING SICK.
DOAN SAYS SHE ONLY FOUND OUT ABOUT THE T-B WHEN SHE GOT A LETTER FROM THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAYING ALL HER EMPLOYEES SHOULD GET A SKIN TEST.
"When they come here, they put the needle on everybody's skin and they say they will come back about 2 days to measure the swelling."
DOAN SAYS AS SOON AS SHE GOT THE LETTER.. .SHE CALLED THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND THEY ASSURED HER IT WAS SAFE TO KEEP SERVING FOOD.
THE EMPLOYEE WHO WAS DIAGNOSED...NO LONGER WORKS AT THE NOODLE HOUSE.
DOCTOR DAVID HARVEY... THE NORTH CENTRAL HEALTH DISTRICT DIRECTOR... JOINED US IN THE STUDIO DURING EYEWITNESS NEWS AT FIVE TODAY.
HE SAYS NO CURRENT WORKERS HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH T-B.... AND THERE WAS NEVER A HEALTH RISK TO THE PUBLIC.
"TB is not a food-borne disease. You're not going to get it from eating this food this lady serves or anyone else serves. TB is contagious by aerosol, by breathing and it's confined areas like jails and nursing homes and where people live in close quarters and certainly in homes. We always check their home contacts, their social contacts, as well as the workplace contacts.
Frank: But because she was a waitress there is no greater likelihood...
Very, very unlikely. We've had recently in another county adjacent, we've had the same thing come up and we've been thorugh ther same process and it happens a lot more frequently than you know but fortunately not very often."
NINE EMPLOYEES EMPLOYEES AT THE NOODLE HOUSE TESTED POSITIVE FOR BEING EXPOSED TO T-B.
HARVEY SAYS THAT'S NOT UNUSUAL...AND ALSO NOT A HEALTH CONCERN.
HE SAYS THEY WILL GET MEDICATION FOR NINE MONTHS...JUST AS A PRECAUTION.

GEORGIA DEFENDENTS WILL HAVE TO PROVE THEY'RE MENTALLY DISABLED IN ORDER TO AVOID THE DEATH PENALTY.
TODAY... THE STATE SUPREME COURT REJECTED A CLAIM BY ALPHONSO STRIPLING... WHO ARGUED THAT PROSECUTORS CAN'T SEEK THE DEATH PENALTY AGAINST HIM BECAUSE HE'S MENTALLY DISABLED.
THE COURT FOUND THAT STRIPLING... NOT THE STATE... WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVING HIS DISABILITY.
GEORGIA WAS THE FIRST STATE IN THE NATION TO BAN EXECUTING MENTALLY DISABLED INMATES... BUT IT IS ALSO THE ONLY STATE THAT REQUIRES PROOF OF DISABILITY FROM DEFENDANTS.

TODAY ON THE MORNIN' GRIND... STEPHANIE SUSSKIND GOT A DEMONSTRATION OF A SPECIAL COFFEE-MAKING TECHNIQUE THAT DOESN'T INVOLVE A COFFEE MAKER... IT'S CALLED A MANUAL POUR.
SO THIS MORNING... WE ASKED OUR FACEBOOK FANS IF THEY'VE EVER MADE COFFEE WITHOUT A TRADITIONAL COFFEE MAKER.
ONE PERSON WROTE... "YES. I USE MY FRENCH PRESS AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE.
COFFEE TASTES SO MUCH BETTER THAN USING A TRADITIONAL COFFEE MAKER."
SOMEONE ELSE COMMENTED... WE USED THE TYPE THAT SAT ON THE STOVE AND BOILED UP INTO THE LITTLE CLEAR LID ON TOP (CALLED A PERCULATOR).
THAT WAS THE HOTTEST COFFEE AND THE TASTE WAS BETTER THAN IN THE TYPE WE USE TODAY.
A THIRD PERSON HAD THIS TO SAY... "YES. MANUAL POUR IS THE BEST METHOD I'VE FOUND SO FAR.... EVEN BETTER THAN FRENCH PRESS."
AND SOMEONE ELSE WROTE... "YES, BUT IT JUST WASN'T THE SAME."
