Elaine Lucas, City Council Ward 1 Post 3: It's very clear to me and to anyone who has kept up with this that the present mayor, Mayor Reichert, and the Republican Party are the ones who have initiated and or are supporting this candidate against me.
LUCAS CALLED HIS CANDIDACY A PLOY BY MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT AND REPUBLICANS TO GET HER OFF CITY COUNCIL.
Elaine Lucas, City Council Ward 1 Post 3 "What they want to do is remove the people's candidate from office.
HORNE DENIED THAT.
Chris Horne, City Council Candidate: I could not let anybody talk me into this. It's ridiculous. I'm going to commit to 4 years being on council, being away from my wife and kid. The only way I'm going to be able to do this is to talk my wife into letting me do it.
HE WANTS TO MAKE A PLAN TO IMPROVE EAST MACON AND SAYS IT'S TIME FOR QUOTE *NEW BLOOD.*
Chris Horne, City Council Candidate: she's been there for 24 years, anything she wanted to do she could have done by now... I don't think you can drive through east macon and feel like the work's done"
LUCAS COUNTERED HORNE'S CALL FOR NEW FACES... SAYING SHE'S BEEN A VOICE FOR UNDERSERVED PEOPLE.
Elaine Lucas, City Council Ward 1 Post 3 There's also something to be said for experience and knowing how to properly represent people.
BECAUSE BOTH CANDIDATES ARE RUNNING AS DEMOCRATS... VOTERS WILL DECIDE THEIR RACE... IN THE JULY PRIMARY ELECTION.
WE SPOKE TO MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT THIS AFTERNOON.

AND HE SAYS... BY MEETING WITH SEVERAL GANG LEADERS... THAT'S JUST HE'S DOING.
Danny Glover: "Everybody, you know, wasn't born with a spoon in their mouth, everybody wasn't born with the same opportunities that everyone has. So we have to listen to everybody. In order for us to be one Macon, we have to, you know, take race out of the picture, we have to take economic status out of the picture, and we have to truly have a city that's moving each and every one of the citizens forward."
BUT HIS OPPONENT... INCUMBENT TOM ELLINGTON SAYS... AFTER FOUR YEARS...
Nat pop-- getting campaign sign
HE'S NOT QUITE FINISHED.
Tom Ellington, W3 P3: "If you go down to Lynmore Estates at the southern end of ward 3, there's still work to be done there. but if you compare the situation of that neighborhood to, say, four years ago, you can see a big difference."
ELLINGTON ISN'T ALONE IN CAMPAIGNING TO KEEP HIS SEAT.
IN WARD 2... POST 2... HENRY GIBSON IS RUNNING AGAINST INCUMBENT MIKE CRANFORD.
IN WARD 3 POST 1... INCUMBENT LARRY SCHLESINGER... FACES PHIL BROWN.
