Lisa Love: "I don't want it to be like a funeral. This has been a part of my life for 15 years and a part of this community and I think I would rather see people celebrate it."
AFTER MONTHS OF PROPOSALS AND MEETINGS... THE CITY OF MACON IS PREPARING FOR THE CLOSING OF THE GEORGIA MUSIC HALL OF FAME.
HELLO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.I'M LEAH JOHNSON..
AND I'M FRANK MALLOY..THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX.

OUR TOP STORY TONIGHT... 15 YEARS AFTER IT OPENED ITS DOORS IN MACON... THE CITY HAS LEARNED THAT THE GEORGIA MUSIC HALL OF FAME WILL CLOSE FOR THE LAST TIME NEXT MONTH.
AFTER MONTHS OF MEETINGS AND PROPOSALS.. THE DECISION TO CLOSE THE MUSEUM CAME DOWN JUST BEFORE NOON.
WE BEGIN OUR TEAM COVERAGE WITH LORRA LYNCH JONES LIVE AT THE MUSIC HALL OF FAME.
FROM LITTLE RICHARD....TO THE ALLMAN BROTHERS.... FROM OTIS REDDING...TO THE KAZOO.
FOR A DECADE AND A HALF...THE MUSIC HALL OF FAME CELEBRATED MACON'S MUSICAL HERITAGE...AND THE STATE'S.
BUT A VOTE TODAY SAYS THE MUSIC STOPS...IN LESS THAN THREE WEEKS.

Mike Ford "It's a sad moment for the Middle Georgia community. It's hard to understand how the authority can feel like it is representing its music heritage in the state by closing the museum."
THE MOOD WAS HEAVY IN THE CLASSROOM AT THE GEORGIA MUSIC HALL OF FAME AS THE VOTES CAME IN
"Claire Hillard: I decline. David Barbe: Decline..."
FOUR DECLINES WERE ENOUGH TO TURN DOWN 800 THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM NEW TOWN MACON TO KEEP THE MUSIC HALL OF FAME OPEN FOR A YEAR.
Mike Ford: "It's a little hard to understand what we could have done to convince them to keep the hall of fame open.
THREE AUTHORITY MEMBERS THOUGHT THE NEW TOWN MACON DEAL WAS A NO-BRAINER...
"I really don't understand the rationale of rejecting a fully-funded proposal when the state has absolutely nothing to lose and we have the opportunity to have a huge success story."
BUT THE MAIN DISSENTING VOICE WAS VICE CHAIRMMAN ROB GIBSON.
"This thing is not a tourist destination. It's not ever been. It has no real artistic aesthetic vision and conception behind it other than its name.
LISA LOVE, THE DIRECTOR OF THE MUSIC HALL OF FAME.... SAYS THOSE WHO VOTED NO DID SO BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T SEE A PLAN TO MAKE THE MUSEUM PROFITABLE.
"I think each of the board members recognized how generous and how supportive New Town Macon had been.... The city, the county, Peyton Anderson Foundation all of the folks in this community who stepped forward. I think that was recognized and acknowledge and I don't think the decision in any way what so ever cast any aspersions on Macon."
LOVE SAYS OVER THE NEXT THREE WEEKS... SHE'LL WORK TO PLACE HER EMPLOYEES AT NEW JOBS AND WORK TO HELP MACON USE THIS AS A BEGINNING... NOT AN END.
Lisa Love: "I don't want it to be like a funeral. This has been a part of my life for 15 years and a part of this community and I think I would rather see people celebrate it."
>> GOVERNOR NATHAN DEAL DOES NOT PLAN TO TAKE SIDES IN THE HALL OF FAME DISPUTE...A SPOKESMAN SAID TODAY.
BRIAN ROBINSON TOLD OUR ATLANTA SISTER STATION 11ALIVE NEWS THAT....THE GOVERNOR DID NOT WEIGH IN FOR OR AGAINST THE MACON MUSEUM...BUT THAT THE STATE NO LONGER HAS FUNDS TO PROP UP THE MACON HALL.

FRANK... LEAH?

A SHORT WHILE AGO - MACON MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT ALSO RELEASED A STATEMENT CALLING THE CLOSINGS TROUBLING...AND DISAPPOINTING.

FOR THERESA WAINWRIGHT... DRIVING DOWN 75 BY THE HARDEMAN AVENUE EXIT... WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.

Theresa Wainwright, Reynolds: "It was like pop, pop, pop, bing!"

THAT'S THE SOUND... SHE SAYS SHE HEARD... WHEN A BULLET STRUCK HER PASSENGER SIDE DOOR... IN HER TOYOTA CAMRY.

Theresa Wainwright: "It actually went into the door."

SHE SAYS... THE BULLET LANDED INCHES FROM WHERE HER BOYFRIEND SAT IN THE PASSENGER'S SEAT.

Theresa Wainwright: "If it hadn't been for the shootin' goin' into the door and stoppin' it, it would've hurt somebody."

SHE SAYS IT HAPPENED JUST BEFORE THE HARDEMAN AVENUE EXIT GOING SOUTHBOUND ON 75.
THE CAR FOLLOWING BEHIND... SHE SAYS... WAS HER COUSIN'S... TRAVELING WITH HIS WIFE AND SON.
THEIR CHEVY TRAILBLAZER WAS STRUCK JUST ABOVE THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE.

Theresa Wainwright: "We had to exit, because we needed to see how bad the car was hurt, to make sure the tire or anything wasn't injured."

BOTH VICTIMS SAY IT WAS TOO DARK TO SEE A SHOOTER... BUT SAY THEY THINK THE BULLETS CAME FROM THE HARDEMAN AVENUE OVERPASS....OR NEARBY.

Nats, cars

ACCORDING TO A POLICE REPORT... NO BULLETS WERE FOUND... BUT THE TWO CAR OWNERS SAY THE GUN USED... MAY HAVE BEEN A SMALL CALIBER HANDGUN.

MACON POLICE ARE STILL INVESTIGATING.
