A CENTRAL GEORGIA FAMILY MOURNS THE LOSS OF A MACON-BIBB COUNTY FIREFIGHTER
24-YEAR OLD MICHAEL DEWAYNE JONES DROWNED AT LAKE TOBESOFKEE SATURDAY EVENING.
AS CANDACE ADORKA REPORTS... JONES DOVE IN TO SAVE THREE CHILDREN.... TWO OF WHICH WERE HIS OWN.
ON SATURDAY NIGHT... THIS QUIET LAKE ROBBED TIFFANY JONES OF HER BROTHER MICHAEL.
TIFFANY: "HE WAS ALWAYS TRYING TO HELP SOMEBODY... A HUSBAND, A FATHER, A BROTHER, A FIREMAN."
SHE SAYS IT CAME AS NO SURPRISE, THAT HER BROTHER JUMPED IN TO THE LAKE TO RESCUE HIS SONS... 5-YEAR-OLD JOSHUA... 7-YEAR-OLD JARELL... AND A LITTLE GIRL WHO WAS ALSO PLAYING IN THE WATER.
TIFFANY: "THE LITTLE GIRL STARTED DROWING, HE SAVED HER. MY NEPHEW STARTED DROWNING, HE SAVED HIM. MY OTHER NEPHEW STARTED TO DROWN AND SOMEHOW MY OTHER NEPHEW GOT BACK IN THE WATER..."
CANDACE: "I SPOKE TO MICHAEL'S WIDOW TYKIA ON THE PHONE. SHE SAYS SHE LEFT HER FAMILY AT THE LAKE AND MADE A QUICK TRIP TO A NEARBY CONVENINECE STORE. WHEN SHE LEFT, EVERYTHING WAS CALM, THE KIDS WERE OK, AND MICHAEL HAD THEIR 7-MONTH-OLD STRAPPED TO HIS CHEST. WHEN SHE RETURNED LESS THAN 10 MINUTES LATER, THERE WAS A BYSTANDER HOLDING HER BABY, THE KIDS WERE ALL WET, AND MICHAEL WAS IN THE WATER."
CHIEF RIGGINS: "DURING THIS EPISODE PLAYING OUT, HE UNFORTUNATELY SLIPPED AND WENT UNDER..."
MAOCN-BIBB COUNTY FIRE CHIEF MARVIN RIGGINS SAID ON EYEWITNESS NEWS SUNDAY MORNING... MICHAEL HAD BEEN WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR A WEEK... BUT HE WAS ALREADY PART OF THE FIREFIGHTERS BROTHERHOOD.
"IT'S GONNA BE TOUGH FOR HIS TRAINING GROUP BECAUSE THEY LEARN TO BOND AND GROW TOGETHER, SO IT'S GONNA BE TOUGH..... OUR HEARTS ARE HEAVY FOR THE FAMILY AND FOR THE DEPARTMENT ITSELF.
AND AS THE FAMILY STRUGGLES WITH THE LOSS OF BROTHER.. FATHER AND HUSBAND.... TIFFANY SAYS SHE STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THEIR HERO IS GONE.

FIRE CHIEF MARVIN RIGGINS SAYS HIS DEPARTMENT IS WORKING WITH THE FAMILY TO PLAN A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR MICHAEL.
THE BIBB COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE IS ASKING FOR YOUR HELP... AFTER A RASH OF CAR BREAK-INS THIS WEEKEND.

HE SAYS MOST OF THE CARS WERE LEFT UNLOCKED

DEFOE SAYS MACON POLICE ARRESTED FIVE PEOPLE SUPSECTED OF ENTERING AUTOS IN BIBB.. CRAWFORD... HOUSTON.. AND PEACH COUNTIES.
HE SAYS THEY WERE FOUND WITH SOME ITEMS.... MISSING FROM WEST BIBB COUNTY CARS LAST NIGHT.

IT WAS THE MEDICAL CENTER OF CENTRAL GEORGIA'S WAY OF CELEBRATING E-M-S APPRECIATION WEEK.
SOME STAFF MEMBERS COULDN'T TAKE THE DAY COMPLETELY OFF... BUT THE PICNIC GAVE THEM A FUN PLACE TO GO BETWEEN SHIFTS.

RIDERS HAD THE OPTION OF OF TWO ROUTES... A SHORT 28 MILE RIDE OR A MORE SCENIC 48 MILE TRIP TO LIZELLA.
FOLKS AT THE RALLY SAY TANDEM BIKING HELPS BUILD TEAM WORK BETWEEN PARTNERS.
