HE'S ALSO HEADED TO ATLANTA FOR INTENSIVE THERAPY.
SOME CENTRAL GEORGIANS HIT THE PEDAL... HOPING TO RACE THEIR WAY TO A CHAMPIONSHIP TODAY.

ABOUT 300 CYCLERS COMPETED IN THE PRO-GOLD CYCLING CLASSIC.
AS PART OF THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP... THEY RACED AROUND TATNALL SQUARE PARK.
THE SPEEDERS ALSO COMPETED IN A FAST PACED BIKE RACE CATEGORY ... WITH MORE THAN 50 COMPETITORS.
THE RACERS WERE SPLIT INTO GROUPS.. BASED ON AGE... SKILL AND ABILITY.
SOME SAY THE BIKERS... AND THOSE ON THE SIDELINES... ENJOY THE RACE.

EDDIE HUDSON, ORGANIZER: "ITS JUST A GREAT FAMILY ATMOSPHERE FOR PEOPLE TO COME OUT, ITS A FREE EVENT, YOU CAN WATCH THESE GUYS THAT HAVE BEEN TRAINING FOR 12, 14 HOURS A WEEK, AND YOU CAN ENJOY SOME MANY OF THE THINGS HERE IN NEW TOWN MACON AND OVER IN THE MERCER AREA."

THEY PACKED THE 54-FOOT TRUCK LAST NIGHT... AFTER SPENDING THE PAST WEEK COLLECTING HYGIENE ITEMS AND OTHER NECESSITIES
FOR TORNADO VICTIMS IN ALABAMA.
MADELINE JACKSON... A FRESHMAN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA HELPED LEAD THE EFFORT.
SHE SAYS SHE'S THANKFUL THAT PEOPLE FROM HER HOMETOWN... HERE IN MACON... HAVE SHOWN HUGE SUPPORT.

JACKSON ORGANIZED WITH OTHER VOLUNTEERS TO SORT THE SUPPLIES FOR STORM VICTIMS AT EMMANUEL CHURCH IN MACON

PARENT TRACY TAYLOR SAYS SHE'S PUMPED ABOUT THE PROGRAM AND LOOKS FORWARD TO HELPING HER CHILD STAY FOCUSED ON READING.
SHE SAYS SHE HOPES OTHER PARENTS WILL DO THE SAME.

JADUN MCCARTHY WAS CHOSEN AS THE STATE'S 2012 TEACHER OF THE YEAR.
STATE EDUCATION LEADERS MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT AT A CEREMONY IN ATLANTA.
MCCARTHY... AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS TEACHER AT NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL.. EARNED THE TOP HONOR AFTER BEING SELECTED BIBB'S TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

FAMILY.. FRIENDS.. STUDENTS AND BIBB SCHOOL OFFICIALS CELEBRATED WITH MCCARTHY.
A PANEL OF JUDGES SELECTED HIM FOR HIS COMPELLING STORY.
A PRODUCT OF BIBB COUNTY SCHOOLS... MCCARTHY DECIDED TO BECOME A TEACHER ON THE NIGHT OF HIS LAW SCHOOL GRADUATION TO KEEP KIDS AWAY FROM THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM... RATHER THAN PUT THEM THERE.
