A FEW STRONG THUNDERSTORMS RUMBLED ACROSS PARTS OF CENTRAL GEORGIA TONIGHT..

MACON CITY COUNCIL VOTED TONIGHT TO UPHOLD MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT'S VETO OF A LAW THAT WOULD BAN SMOKING IN MANY PUBLIC PLACES.
THAT MEANS THE SMOKING-BAN WILL NOT GO INTO AFFECT THIS SEPTEMBER.
AS ELEANOR LISSITZYN EXPLAINS... OPPONENTS OF THE BAN SAY IT'S A VICTORY FOR SMALL BUSINESS AND INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM.
BUT SUPPORTERS WARN... THEY'RE NOT GIVING UP YET.
"I was worried."
DOWNTOWN NIGHTCLUB OWNER PHILLIP SINCLAIR AND MORE THAN 100 OTHER PEOPLE CROWDED INTO COUNCIL CHAMBERS TUESDAY EVENING... ANXIOUSLY TALLYING VOTES TO SEE WHETHER COUNCIL WOULD OVERRIDE THE MAYOR'S VETO OF THE SMOKING BAN.

ONE VOTE SHY OF A TWO THIRDS MAJORITY... COUNCIL VOTED NINE TO SIX TO UPHOLD THE BAN... THAT MEANS THE LAW THAT WOULD HAVE RESTRICTED SMOKING IN PLACES LIKE NIGHTCLUBS AND BARS WILL NOT GO IN TO AFFECT.
THEY VOTED AFTER MORE THAN THIRTY MINUTES OF PUBLIN INPUT.
"Do the right thing."
"look at all the tax money you're trying ot push in to the county if you override this veto."
COUNCIL WOMAN BEVERLY BLAKE URGED COUNCIL TO OVERRIDE THE VETO...
"There will be no opportunity to revisit this important health issue."
COUNCILWOMAN ELAINE LUCAS SAYS THE LAW IS PART OF CITY COUNCIL'S REPSONSIBLITY TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC'S SAFETY.
BUT SEVERAL COUNCILMEMBERS AGREED WITH THIS BAR OWNER.
"If this law passes, I'll have to shut my business down."
HENRY FICKLIN ORIGINALLY CO-SPONSORED THE LAW BUT SAID HE VOTED 'NO' TUESDAY TO BECAUSE BUSINESS OWNERS WEREN'T PERSONALLY INVITED TO ATTEND PUBLIC MEETINGS.
"It's not over."
ERIC BAILEY OF THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION SAYS TUESDAY'S VOTE ISN'T THE END.
"We will be working this summer to work with the mayor and the city council members that were opposed to see if we can come to a consensus."
SINCLAIR SAYS HE THINKS... THEY'LL SUCCEED...EVENTUALLY...
"I'm hoping that it will be written better than what this one was."
AND WITH SOME TWEAKING... HE SAYS HE'LL BE ON BOARD.
STD IN AN EARLIER INTERVIEW SINCLAIR TOLD 13WMAZ THAT IF THE COUNTY VOTED TO PASS A SIMILAR SMOKING-BAN... THEN HE WOULD CONSIDER SUPPORTING IT.
ORDINANCE CO-SPONSOR LARRY SCHLESINGER SAYS HE'S NOT SURE WHAT SUPPORTERS OF THE ORDINANCE PLAN TO DO IN THE FUTURE.
HE SAYS THEY'LL PROBABLY TAKE THE NEXT FEW DAYS TO THINK IT OVER BEFORE DECIDING WHETHER TO BRING THE ISSUE BACK BEFORE COUNCIL.

C-I-A DIRECTOR LEON PANETTA IS SLOWLY GIVING DETAILS ABOUT THE OPERATION THAT KILLED OSAMA BIN LADEN.
HE SAYS PRESIDENT OBAMA WASN'T GETTING A DIRECT VIDEO FEED OF THE RAID ON BIN LADEN'S COMPOUND... AND NEVER SAW THE MOMENT WHEN BIN LADEN WAS SHOT DEAD.
PANETTA SAYS HE THINKS A PHOTO OF BIN LADEN'S BODY WILL BE RELEASED.
THE WHITE HOUSE HASN'T DECIDED YET WHETHER TO RELEASE THE IMAGE.
MEANWHILE... A WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN SAYS OFFICIALS ARE TRYING TO SORT THROUGH THE INFORMATION AND PRODUCE AN ACCURATE ACCOUNT OF EVENTS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS VOTED 5 TO ZERO MONDAY NIGHT TO ELIMINATE TWO LEADERSHIP POSTS TO CREATE THE NEW PATROL JOBS.

HE SAYS THE GARDEN AT THE CORNER OF 'U' STREET AND WALNUT STREET HAS BROUGHT TOGETHER MEMBERS OF THE DOWNTOWN COMMUNITY FOR A GOOD CAUSE.
REVEREND MARTIN SAYS THEY'RE HOLDING AN EVENT THIS WEEKEND AT 8:30AM AT THE COMMUNITY GARDEN TO RECRUIT VOLUNTEERS.
