HER ATTORNEY JOSHUA MORRISON SAID THURSDAY... HE PLANS TO ARGUE SHE TRIED TO STOP THE ROBBERY.
Morrison "They passed the lemonade stand. and It's my understanding that Gage Turner, Mr Turner started speaking to her about potentially taking the money."
MORRISON SAYS UMBARGER TOLD POLICE THE TWO PULLED OVER... AND BOUGHT SOME LEMONADE. HE SAYS SHE FOUND OUT THE STAND WAS RAISING MONEY FOR A SICK CHILD... AND CHANGED HER MIND.
"So she starts asking more detailed questions to the young ladies at there, being very pointed, trying to make Mr. Turner see -- hey you don't have to do this."
BUT... HE SAYS.. IT WAS TOO LATE...
"He didn't get the message... grabbed the money jar, took off and Amber was left there holding a cup of lemonade."
PROSECUTORS SAY... THAT TURNER WAS THE THIEF... BUT UMBARGER SEEMED TO KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON.
Asst. DA "They left. they came back together. That's when the robbery occurred.. That certainly indicates a knowing involvement."
MEANTIME... TURNER MUST TAKE RANDOM DRUG TESTS ... BECAUSE OF A PRIOR DRUG ARREST. THAT CHARGE WAS LATER DROPPED...BUT PROSECUTORS SAY IT'S A RED FLAG IN THIS CASE.
"many robberies, many burglaries, many property crimes are related to a drug addiction or a drug need."

HE SAYS THE COUNCIL SUPPORTS THE SCHOOL FARM PLANS ... AND IS CONSIDERING AN EXCEPTION FOR CHICKENS ON GOVERNMENT PROPERTY.
ELLIOTT SAYS HE'S DRAFTING AN ORDINANCE THAT SAYS NO ROOSTERS... AND LIMITS THE NUMBER OF CHICKENS.

IT MIGHT BE MORE EXPENSIVE TO GET YOUR HANDS ON PECANS THIS YEAR... SINCE MANY GEORGIA NUTS ARE HEADED FOR CHINA.

***nats: right there is the actual pecan***
THOMAS MASON SAYS ITS AN EXCITING TIME TO BE A PECAN FARMER.
"i don't hardly know where you'd go right now to find very many containers of pecans because people are seeking them as we speak right now, trying to find pecans and theyre just really rare."
THAT'S BECAUSE AMERICAN PECAN FARMERS HAVE A NEW CUSTOMER WITH A GROWING APETITE.
"in 2005 I think the US shipped right around 7 million pound to china, but in 2009 the industry shipped about 87 million pounds. in 4 years that's almost 80 million pounds increase, that's staggering."
HE SAYS REPORTS THAT PECANS ARE HEART HEALTHY PECANS ARE DRIVING THAT DEMAND IN CHINA... MASON SAYS HE CAN RELATE.
"I'm 58 years old and so far havn't had any medical problems but when you have a study that's out that says eating just a few a day is proven to immediately lower your bad cholesterol within 2 hours, that's a staggering fact."
standup: "With a good portion of the United States' pecan crop goin overseas, local vendors can be affected. Kay Meyer owns this pecan gift shop in Fort Valley and she says higher demand in China helped drive up the prices of her pecans."

Kay Meyer" Three factors figured in-- the late crop, the short crop, the sales to China... all of which elevated the cost."
MEYER SAYS IN 2010 SHE PAID DOUBLE THE 2009 PRICE FOR A POUND OF PECANS.
MASON SAYS HE'S ALREADY PLANTED 17-THOUSAND NEW TREES TO KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND.
"i think there's a real good future in pecans."
CANDACE ADORKA, 13 WMAZ EYEWITNESS NEWS.
>>
MASON SAYS ITS HARD TO PREDICT HOW MUCH PECANS WILL BE THIS YEAR... BUT HIS BEST GUESS IS ABOUT 2 DOLLARS 60 CENTS FOR A POUND OF GOOD QUALITY PECANS.
THAT'S ABOUT 3 TIMES WHAT PECANS SOLD FOR TEN YEARS AGO WHEN MASON STARTED FARMING.
