FRANK MALLOY HAS THE NIGHT OFF....

MACON'S TWO STATE SENATORS REACHED AN AGREEMENT ON A PROPOSED PLAN TO CONSOLIDATE THE CITY OF MACON AND BIBB COUNTY.
DEMOCRAT ROBERT BROWN AND REPUBLICAN CECIL STATON DISCUSSED THE BILL AT A JOINT NEWS CONFERENCE IN ATLANTA.
RANDALL SAVAGE HAS MORE ON THE PLAN BROWN AND STATON SAY WILL CUT THE COST OF GOVERNMENT BY TWENTY PERCENT IN FOUR YEARS.
<<OVER THE LAST TWO WEEKS....SENATORS ROBERT BROWN AND CECIL STATON WORKED OUT THEIR DIFFERENCES OVER THE PROPOSED CONSOLIDATION PLAN.
IN THE END.. THEY SAY THEY' VE PULLED TOGETHER A PACKAGE THAT'LL MAKE GOVERNMENT SMALLER...CHEAPER AND MORE EFFICIENT.
20:26 Cecil Staton, State Senator: For me to feel good about consolidating government or restructuring government it has to result in savings for tax payers it has to produce a government that is leaner and more responsive to citizens

ONE COMPROMISE WAS KEEPING THE MACON WATER AUTHORITY INDEPENDENT...AND AN ELECTED BOARD.
Robert Brown, State Senator: "it well still be an authority be the significant difference is the that authority will now pay a 6 percent franchise fee to the new city the amount is estimated i believe senator staton at the time this would occur to be about 3.2 million dollars a year"

STATE REPRESENTATIVE DAVID LUCAS.. A MACON DEMOCRAT.. LIKES THE PROPOSAL
40:35 David Lucas, State Representative: " I think with the two senators agree that as soon as that bill cross the hall David Lucas will put his signature on it'

STATE REPRESENTATIVE ALLEN PEAKE SAYS HE'LL KEEP AN OPEN MIND ON THE SENATORS' PROPOSAL.
Allen Peake, State Representative:" I think they both given some and taken some as well on the plan and i look forward to seeing if it is going to work"

PEAKE PUSHED HIS OWN CONSOLIDATION PACKAGE THROUGH THE HOUSE EARLIER.. IT'S IN THE SENATE WHERE BROWN AND STATON WOULD HAVE TO AGREE BEFORE IT MOVES FORWARD.
THAT PROBABLY WON'T HAPPEN WITH THE SENATORS PRODUCING THEIR OWN PLAN.
RANDALL SAVAGE.. 13 WMAZ.. EYEWITNESS NEWS.
>>  THE SENATE BILL WILL NOW GO TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR CONSIDERATION..
IF APPROVED BY BOTH GOVERNMENTAL BODIES.. VOTERS WOULD DECIDE WHETHER TO APPROVE THE MERGER IN THE NOVEMBER 2012 ELECTION.
BROWN AND STATON SAY THAT'S WHEN THE MOST VOTERS WILL TURN OUT..  AND THEY WANT MAXIMUM PARTICIPATION.

THE PEACH COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT IS IN SEARCH OF A NEW SUPERINTENDENT TONIGHT.
SCHOOL BOARD CHAIRMAN JAMIE JOHNSON SAYS DR. SUSAN CLARK ANNOUNCED HER RETIREMENT EFFECTIVE JULY 1ST OF THIS YEAR.
JOHNSON SAYS HE AND THE BOARD UNDERSTAND AND RESPECT CLARK'S DECISION TO MOVE ON.
"It's kind of a bittersweet situation because we don't want to hold her back from retiring but we do understand that she may have some other endeavors that she is pursuing being with her grandchildren and we don't want to hold her from doing that.
But I can say that she has done a lot od good things for our school district building us up to the place where we are, helping us come off of the probation status and warning status with SACs....
She has implemented several programs."
JOHNSON SAYS CLARK SERVED AS PEACH COUNTY SCHOOL'S SUPERINTENDENT FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS.
HE SAYS THEY HOPE TO HAVE A NEW SUPERINTENDENT IN PLACE BEFORE THE START OF THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR.

A MALFUNCTION AT A MARATHON STATION IN MACON... HAD SUVs AND TRUCKS SWARMING THE GAS PUMPS...
GAS WAS BEING ADVERTISED FOR THREE DOLLARS AND FORTY NINE CENTS A GALLON AT THE STATION ON GRAY HIGHWAY IN MACON...
BUT IT WAS RINGING UP AT THE PUMP FOR TWO FORTY NINE...
THATS NINETY EIGHT CENTS LESS THAN THE AVERAGE PRICE OF GAS IN MACON.
IT HAPPENED AT AROUND NINE THIRTY P.M.
WHEN WORD GOT OUT ABOUT THE CHEAP GAS... PEOPLE PICKED UP THEIR CELL PHONES AND CALLED  THEIR FRIENDS...
MICHAEL NELSON WENT TO FILL UP AFTER HE GOT A CALL FROM A FRIEND.
HE RUNS A BUSINESS DELIVERING MOONWALKS AND SAYS IT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY HE COULDN'T PASS UP.
"I thought he was joking and then he told me where it was and as much as we deliver doing moonwalks and stuff like that with my personal business gas prices are outrageous right now." AN EMPLOYEE AT THE GAS STATION SAYS IT WAS A MALFUNCTION THAT CAUSED GAS TO SELL FOR THE INCORRECT PRICE.
HE DIDN'T KNOW WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED BUT SAID HE SHUT OFF THE PUMPS AROUND NINE THIRTY TO KEEP MORE GAS FROM BEING SOLD AT THE WRONG PRICE.
