YOU MAY HAVE SEEN SOME OF MACON'S FAMOUS YOSHINO CHERRY TREES SHOWING BLOOMS.
THE CITY'S FESTIVAL THAT CELEBRATES THE PINK FLOWERS IS TWO WEEKS AWAY.
LAUREN DISPIRITO SPOKE WITH ONE MASTER GARDENER... ABOUT WHEN YOU CAN EXPECT TO SEE THE TREES IN FULL BLOOM.

MACON'S MOST WELL-KNOWN TREES ARE SHOWING BURSTS OF BEAUTY...WEEKS AHEAD OF THEIR NAMESAKE FESTIVAL'S SCHEDULE.

NATS THEY'RE JUST ABOUT READY TO BURST

MASTER GARDENER CAROL SALAMI-GOSWICK SAYS AFTER A WARM SPELL... IT'S TYPICAL TO SEE EARLY BLOOMS.

CAROL SALAMI-GOSWICK, MASTER GARDENER: "THEY GET THAT WARM WEATHER AND THEY THINK IT'S TIME IT'S TIME"

AFTER CONSULTING WITH CITY FORRESTER RANDALL HUNT... SHE'S GOT A GOOD GUESS AS TO WHEN THEY'LL REACH THEIR PINKEST.

"MARCH 17TH WILL BE THE FULL PEAK BLOOM AND THAT WILL BE JUST THE DAY BEFORE CHERRY BLOSSOM STARTS."

SHE SAYS ITS NOT UNCOMMON FOR OLDER TREES TO BLOOM BEFORE YOUNGER ONES... AND CITY BUDS USUALLY OPEN FIRST... BECAUSE CEMENT SURFACES AND BIG BUILDINGS TEND TO KEEP TEMPERATURES A FEW DEGREES WARMER.

LAUREN DISPIRITO, EYEWITNESS NEWS: "WITH SOME TREES LIKE THE ONES HERE BEHIND ME ALREADY SHOWING BLOOMS, THE QUESTION BECOMES WILL THE CHERRY BLOSSOMS STICK AROUND FOR THE WHOLE FESTIVAL."

CAROL SALAMI-GOSWICK, MASTER GARDENER: "THEY'LL PROBABLY BE FEWER OF THEM BY THE END OF CHERRY BLOSSOM BUT I THINK THEY'LL STILL BE A NICE SHOW OF CHERRY BLOSSOMS ON THE LAST WEEKEND."

THAT IS... UNLESS A STRONG STORM BLOWS THROUGH... OR A DEEP FREEZE KILLS THE BUDS... BUT SALAMI-GOSWICK SAYS THEY'D LIKELY SURVIVE A FROST AND OPEN JUST A FEW DAYS LATER IF THE WEATHER COOLS.

CAROL SALAMI-GOSWICK, MASTER GARDENER: "CHERRY BLOSSOMS NEED CHILL TIME JUST LIKE PEACH BLOSSOMS DO AND WE HAD PLENTY OF CHILL TIME THIS YEAR."

SHE SAYS THE EARLY BLOOMS ARE A SURE SIGN THAT SPRING'S BRIGHT COLORS... ARE ON THE WAY.
