BUT TODAY'S CELEBRATION LEFT NO DOUBT IN THEIR MINDS.IMAGES OF WOMEN IN BLACK AND WHITE...
FROM A TIME WHEN ISSUES OF BLACK AND WHITE... DOMINATED SOCIETY.

THE PORTAITS INCLUDE FIVE OF THE ORIGINAL STUDENTS WHO DESEGREGATED BIBB COUNTY SCHOOLS.

THEY WERE REUNITED FRIDAY EVENING AT THE TUBMAN MUSEUM... IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE DOZENS WHO CAME TO SAY THANK YOU..
"You opened Up those doors."
IN 1967 STASIA SAMPSON WAS ONE OF THE FIRST BLACK WOMEN TO GRADUATE FROM LASSETER HIGH SCHOOL...
"I didn't realize how important it was."
WHAT SHE DID REALIZE WAS THAT INTEGRATION WAS SCARY
"I didn't know how they were going to treat me."
MAGGIE OLIVER MCGARITY GRADUATED FROM MILLER HIGH SCHOOL IN 1965...
SHE SAYS SHE'LL NEVER FORGET THE FIRST DAY AT HER NEW SCHOOL.
"When I got out of that car and saw those steps, it was an overwhemling feeling."

OFFICIALS SAY THE JURY MET IN LATE JANUARY AND CHOSE NOT TO CHARGE THE NINE PEOPLE ACCUSED OF FELONY MURDER FOR THE KILLING OF 31-YEAR-OLD ROBERT SAXBY JUNIOR.
SAXBY DIED AFTER A SUPERBOWL PARTY AT POLLY'S MIRAGE IN FEBRUARY 2009.
HOUSTON D-A GEORGE HARTWIG SAYS SEVERAL FACTORS LIKELY INFLUENCED THE GRAND JURY... INCLUDING THE LACK OF SPECIFIC EYEWITNESS TESTIMONY... UNDISPUTED WITNESS ACCOUNTS THAT SAXBY STARTED THE FIGHT... AND AN UNDERLYING MEDICAL CONDITION.
PLUS... HARTWIG SAYS THE TWO MEDICAL EXAMINERS DID NOT FIND INJURIES... TYPICALLY SEEN IN A BEATING DEATH.
Hartwig,
"That is the fractures, obvious signs that either some weapon or blunt object was used or that this person was beaten to death."
HARTWIG SAYS THEY CONSIDERED REDUCING THE CHARGES BUT SAID THE SAME ISSUES WOULD HAVE REMAINED WITH THE CASE.
HARTWIG HANDLED THE CASE DUE TO A CONFLICT OF INTEREST IN THE BIBB COUNTY DA'S OFFICE..

Rick Williams: (7:52) "Whether you live in North Georgia or deep South Georgia, you can get to Warner Robins easily."
THAT'S AN ANSWER HOTEL OWNERS WANT TO HEAR... TRYING TO STEER AWAY FROM THEIR DEPENDANCE ON BUSINESS TRAVELERS TO THE BASE.
Lorra Lynch Jones, EWN: (13:00) "Debra Bouvia with the Warner Robins Hotel Association says these hotels stay primarily full Monday through Wednesday. It's on the weekends that they need to build their traffic."
