GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US... I'M BOFTA YIMAM.
THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.

ONE MAN IS DEAD... AND A 76-YEAR OLD IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION... AFTER AUTHORITIES SAY A BOSTON MAN ATTACKED THEM--- AT A TWIGGS COUNTY MOTEL TODAY.

TWIGGS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS 32-YEAR-OLD JOHN TAYLOR FACES SEVERAL CHARGES INCLUDING MURDER... AND KIDNAPPING.
DEPUTY CHIEF BILLY BONEY SAYS THEY FIRST RESPONDED TO A CALL ABOUT A FIGHT... AT THE AMBASSADOR INN ON HIGHWAY 96... JUST BEFORE 11-A-M.

THE MOTEL'S OWNER TOLD DEPUTIES THAT TAYLOR BEAT UP THEIR MAINTENANCE MAN... ROBERT EUGENE SAUL.
BONEY SAYS SAUL WAS SEVERELY BEATEN... AND TAKEN TO THE MEDICAL CENTER OF CENTRAL GEORGIA.
THEN... DEPUTIES WATCHED SURVEILLANCE VIDEO THAT SHOWED TAYLOR DRIVING A MOTEL CUSTOMER'S VEHICLE... IN THE PARKING LOT.
BONEY SAYS THAT VEHICLE BELONGED TO 51-YEAR-OLD JENE ALLEN MUSGRAVE OF TWIGGS COUNTY.

DEPUTIES FOUND MUSGRAVE BEATEN TO DEATH IN HIS ROOM.
BONEY SAYS THEY'RE STILL GATHERING EVIDENCE... TO MOVE THE INVESTIGATION FORWARD.

CHEIF DEPUTY BILLY BONEY: "WE'LL TRY TO DETERMINE WHY AND THAT KIND OF STUFF RIGHT NOW, THE SUSPECT'S NOT BEING VERY COOPERATIVE WITH US, AND WE'LL DO WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO GET THE EVIDENCE TOGETHER TO PROSECUTE THIS CASE."

BONEY SAYS THEY BELIEVE MUSGRAVE WAS KILLED BETWEEN LATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY.
TAYLOR IS BEING HELD AT THE TWIGGS COUNTY L-E-C WITHOUT BOND.
INVESTIGATORS SAY THE MOTIVE IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.
BONEY SAYS JEFFERSONVILLE POLICE ARRESTED TAYLOR FOR DISORDERLY CONDUCT LAST WEEK.

AUTHORITIES SAY A BIBB COUNTY SHERIFF'S LIEUTENANT HELD UP HIS WIFE AND ANOTHER MAN AT GUNPOINT... THEN FIRED A ROUND.

A MONROE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE SAYS 69-YEAR OLD HARRY FAGAN FARGASON FOUND HIS WIFE VIVIAN... IN AN R-V WITH KARL CROOK.
CROOK TOLD DEPUTIES THAT FARGASON HELD THEM AT GUNPOINT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES... THEN ARGUED WITH VIVAN... AND FIRED A ROUND.
THE RELEASE SAYS NO ONE GOT HIT.

AUTHORITIES LATER FOUND FARGASON AT HIS HOME.
THE RELEASE SAYS FARGASON IS CHARGED WITH BURGLARY... FALSE IMPRISONMENT AND AGGRAVATED ASSAULT.
HE'S CURRENTLY BEING HELD AT HE MONROE COUNTY JAIL.
THE BIBB COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS FARGASON WORKED WITH THEM FOR AT LEAST SEVERAL YEARS... MOST RECENTLY IN THE DETENTION UNIT.

POLICE ARE ASKING GEORGIANS TO HELP IN THE SEARCH FOR THE BODIES OF AN OHIO COUPLE.
AN OHIO POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE THAT RICHARD AND GLADIS RUSSELL WERE KILLED IN THEIR LOGAN COUNTY, OHIO HOME.
POLICE SAY INVESTIGATORS ARE SEARCHING NEAR INTERSTATE 75 BETWEEN MACON AND VALDOSTA FOR THEIR BODIES.

THE GEORGIA ASSOCIATION OF BLACK ELECTED OFFICIALS MET IN MACON.... FOR THEIR YEARLY WINTER CONFERENCE TODAY.
POLITICANS... COMMUNITY LEADERS AND EXPERTS DISCUSSED UPCOMING REDISTRICTING.

NATS FLOYD GRIFFIN, FORMER STATE SENATOR, MILLEDGEVILLE: "THIS IS GOING TO BE ONE HELL OF A REDISTRICTING EFFORT."

FORMER POLITICIANS... ELECTED OFFICIALS... AND OTHERS WEIGHED IN ON STATE REDISTRICTING AT THE GEORGIA ASSOCIATION OF BLACK ELECTED OFFICIALS' WINTER CONFERENCE SATURDAY.

GROUP PRESIDENT AND STATE REPRESENTATIVE TYRONE BROOKS SAYS THE CONFERENCE GAVE PEOPLE A CHANCE TO LEARN ABOUT HOW DISTRICT LINES ARE DRAWN.

TYRONE BROOKS: "IT WILL DETERMINE WHO WILL REPRESENT US IN CONGRESS, IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA"

STATE REPRESENTATIVE DAVID LUCAS SAYS REDISTRICTING WILL BE UNFAIR... BECAUSE REPUBLICAN LEADERS LAST MONTH CREATED A LEGISLATIVE OFFICE TO HANDLE THE PROCESS... RATHER THAN STICK WITH THE NON PARTISAN GROUP THAT DREW MAPS IN THE PAST.

NATS LUCAS "THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY SERIOUS MATTER, YOU'RE GOING TO PROBABLY SEE SOME FOLKS DIE"

THE REDISTRICTING OFFICES' NEW LEADER SAYS THE STAFF REMAINS UNCHANGED AND PLEDGED TO BE NONPARTISAN.
BUT LUCAS SAYS THIS TIME...IT COULD LEAD TO THE BIGGEST FIGHT IN THE STATE'S HISTORY.

LUCAS: "THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF FOLKS I SERVED WITH, I REMEMBER MR DICK HUTCHINGS FROM ALBANY AND IT TORE HIM UP AND HE CRIED AND IT WASNT TWO OR THREE MONTHS AFTER REAPPORTIONMENT THAT HE DIED... I MEAN IT'S A VERY TAXING PROCESS"

REDISTRICTING OFTEN BECOMES POLITICAL...AS THE CONTROLLING PARTY... THIS TIME THE GOP... TRIES TO EXPAND ITS REACH.
HISTORICALLY IN GEORGIA MORE BLACK VOTERS ARE DEMOCRATS... AND STATE SENATOR ROBERT BROWN SAYS ALREADY.. THEY'VE BEEN LEFT OUT.

ROBERT BROWN: "IT CLEARLY WAS DONE WITHOUT ANY INPUT AT ALL NOT ONLY FROM DEMOCRATS BUT FROM THE TRADITIONAL METHOD BY WHICH WE MAKE THESE DECISIONS"

REPUBLICAN STATE SENATOR CECIL STATON DECLINED TO TALK ON CAMERA BUT SAYS QUOTE

"YOU CAN'T START TO DRAW A MAP UNTIL YOU HAVE ALL THE INTRICATE DATA OF EVERY COMMUNITY WITHIN THE STATE."
AND THAT DATA HASN'T COME DOWN FROM THE U.S. CENSUS YET. "IT WILL BECOME A VERY DIFFICULT AND CONTENTIOUS ISSUE BEFORE IT'S ALL DONE."

ONE ATTORNEY TOLD THE CROWD TO DRAW AND SUBMIT THEIR OWN THEIR OWN MAPS.
THE REDISTRICTING OFFICE EXPECTS TO GET CENSUS DATA NEEDED TO START PROCESS AROUND APRIL FIRST.
