GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.
I'M BOFTA YIMAM.
THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX.

AUTHORITIES SAY A BIBB COUNTY SHERIFF'S LIEUTENANT HELD UP HIS WIFE AND ANOTHER MAN AT GUNPOINT... THEN FIRED A ROUND.

A MONROE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE SAYS 69-YEAR OLD HARRY FAGAN FARGASON FOUND HIS WIFE VIVIAN... IN AN R-V WITH KARL CROOK.
CROOK TOLD DEPUTIES THAT FARGASON HELD THEM AT GUNPOINT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES... THEN ARGUED WITH HIS WIFE... AND FIRED A ROUND.
THE RELEASE SAYS NO ONE GOT HIT.

AUTHORITIES LATER FOUND FARGASON AT HIS HOME.
THE RELEASE SAYS FARGASON IS CHARGED WITH BURGLARY... FALSE IMPRISONMENT AND AGGRAVATED ASSAULT.
THE BIBB COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS FARGASON'S WORKED WITH THEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS... MOST RECENTLY IN THE DETENTION UNIT.

THE GEORGIA ASSOCIATION OF BLACK ELECTED OFFICIALS MET IN MACON.... FOR THEIR YEARLY WINTER CONFERENCE TODAY.
POLITICANS... COMMUNITY LEADERS AND EXPERTS DISCUSSED UPCOMING REDISTRICTING.

TYRONE BROOKS: "IT WILL DETERMINE WHO WILL REPRESENT US IN CONGRESS, IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA"

STATE REPRESENTATIVE DAVID LUCAS SAYS REDISTRICTING WILL BE UNFAIR... BECAUSE REPUBLICAN LEADERS LAST MONTH CREATED A LEGISLATIVE OFFICE TO HANDLE THE PROCESS... RATHER THAN STICK WITH THE NON PARTISAN GROUP THAT DREW MAPS IN THE PAST.

NATS LUCAS "THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY SERIOUS MATTER, YOU'RE GOING TO PROBABLY SEE SOME FOLKS DIE"

THE REDISTRICTING OFFICES' NEW LEADER SAYS THE STAFF REMAINS UNCHANGED AND PLEDGED TO BE NONPARTISAN.
BUT LUCAS SAYS THIS TIME...IT COULD LEAD TO THE BIGGEST FIGHT IN THE STATE'S HISTORY.

LUCAS: "THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF FOLKS I SERVED WITH, I REMEMBER MR DICK HUTCHINGS FROM ALBANY AND IT TORE HIM UP AND HE CRIED AND IT WASNT TWO OR THREE MONTHS AFTER REAPPORTIONMENT THAT HE DIED... I MEAN IT'S A VERY TAXING PROCESS"

REDISTRICTING OFTEN BECOMES POLITICAL...AS THE CONTROLLING PARTY... THIS TIME THE GOP... TRIES TO EXPAND ITS REACH.
HISTORICALLY IN GEORGIA MORE BLACK VOTERS ARE DEMOCRATS... AND STATE SENATOR ROBERT BROWN SAYS ALREADY.. THEY'VE BEEN LEFT OUT.

ROBERT BROWN: "IT CLEARLY WAS DONE WITHOUT ANY INPUT AT ALL NOT ONLY FROM DEMOCRATS BUT FROM THE TRADITIONAL METHOD BY WHICH WE MAKE THESE DECISIONS"

REPUBLICAN STATE SENATOR CECIL STATON DECLINED TO TALK ON CAMERA BUT SAYS QUOTE

"YOU CAN'T START TO DRAW A MAP UNTIL YOU HAVE ALL THE INTRICATE DATA OF EVERY COMMUNITY WITHIN THE STATE."
AND THAT DATA HASN'T COME DOWN FROM THE U.S. CENSUS YET. "IT WILL BECOME A VERY DIFFICULT AND CONTENTIOUS ISSUE BEFORE IT'S ALL DONE."

ONE ATTORNEY TOLD THE CROWD TO DRAW AND SUBMIT THEIR OWN THEIR OWN MAPS.
THE REDISTRICTING OFFICE EXPECTS TO GET CENSUS DATA NEEDED TO START PROCESS AROUND APRIL FIRST.
