     EARLIER THIS MONTH WE REPORTED THAT CITY AUDITORS SAID THE CITY OF MACON MISSPENT MORE THAN ONE MILLION DOLLARS IN FEDERAL GRANT MONEY.... AND COULD HAVE TO PAY IT BACK... 
     TONIGHT MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT TOLD COUNCIL MEMBERS... THEY WON'T HAVE TO PAY ALL OF IT.... HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT HAS AGREED TO REIMBURSE THE CITY FOR SOME OF THE MONEY USED TO MAINTAIN TWENTY THREE LOW INCOME HOUSES BUILT WITH THE GRANT. 
      BUT HUD MAY NOT PAY FOR THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS IN VANDALISM REPAIRS...
     ACCORDING TO ECD DIRECTOR WANZINA JACKSON... IN SOME INSTANCES.... THE CITY PAID MORE THAN THE HOME WAS WORTH TO REPAIR DAMAGE...
     FOR EXAMPLE... THE CITY SPENT SIXTY EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS TO REPAIR A SIXTY THOUSAND DOLLAR HOME ON HANSON STREET...
     COUNCIL MEMBERS ALSO QUESTIONED WHY THE CITY SPENT ABOUT SEVENTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS IN UTILITIES FOR VACANT HOMES....
     AND MAYOR REICHERT SAYS THE CITY WON'T GET ANY OF THE SEVEN HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS BACK THAT THEY SPENT MAINTAINING THOSE HOMES... IF THEY DON'T SELL THE HOUSES...
COUNCILMAN MIKE CRANFORD SAID HE'S CONCERNED BY HOW MUCH MONEY CONTRACTORS MADE OFF THE PROJECT....
"I question sincerely the degree with which the administration is allowing one individual to make hundreds of thousand of dollars off the tax payer."
     MAYOR REICHERT SAYS AFTER MARCH FIRST THE CITY WILL STOP FUNDING THE PROJECT AND TURN IT OVER TO THE MACON-BIBB ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL.


THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTHERN CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE... URGED WARNER ROBINS LEADERS TO WORK TOGETHER.
REVEREND HOWARD CREECY JUNIOR SPENT THE DAY MEETING WITH CITY LEADERS.

CREECY SAID HE CAME TO WARNER ROBINS AT THE INVITATION OF COUNCIL MEMBER DARON LEE AND REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY DIRECTOR GARY LEE.
CREECY URGED ALL CITY LEADERS TO COOPERATE.
Rev. Howard Creecy, Jr, SCLC President: "I talked with them about the importance of being intentional, about having a sense of oneness in this community. We may have come to this city on different boats, but were on the same ship now."
CREECY SPOKE TO THE WARNER ROBINS ROTARY CLUB EARLIER IN THE DAY..
       HE BECAME THE S-C-L-C'S NATIONAL PRESIDENT THIS MONTH.

Andy Newton, Chairman: "WE have raised about $100,000 dollars a year each year for the last  four years and since 1966 we've donated over a million and a half dollars to the public libraries." THE SALE KICKS OFF THURSDAY AT 10 A-M.
