HELLO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.I'M LEAH JOHNSON.. AND I'M FRANK MALLOY..THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX.

AN UPDATE TONIGHT ON A STORY WE FIRST TOLD YOU ABOUT LAST YEAR ON EYEWITNESS NEWS.
IT'S THE STORY OF A WARNER ROBINS MAN WHO LOST SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS... WHEN HE PAID THE AMERICAN SHINGLE ROOFING COMPANY FOR WORK THAT WAS NEVER DONE.
THE COMPANY FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY...BUT NOW MIKE HODNETT SAYS ...HE GOT HIS MONEY...AND A NEW ROOF.
TODAY HODNETT TOLD ELEANOR LISSITZYN HOW RESEARCH...AND PERSISTENCE...PAID OFF.

MIKE HODNETT says THE DAY TURNED OVER HIS SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLAR INSURANCE CHECK TO AN AMERICAN SHINGLE EMPLOYEE...WAS THE LAST TIME THEY EVER CAME TO HIS HOME
"It was just excuse after excuse after excuse."
WHEN HODNETT GOT THE NEWS THE COMPANY HAD SHUT DOWN WITHOUT COMPLETING HUNDREDS OF ROOFING JOBS... HE SAYS HE WAS ANGRY... AND DECIDED to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT...
"The wheels had already begun to roll for me."
HE REQUESTED A COPY OF THE  CAshED INSURANCE CHECK... AND NOTICED IT ONLY HAD TWO OF THE THREE NECESSARY ENDORSEMENTS...
"The check was not endorsed by CIty Mortgage."
THATS WHEN HE SAYS HE REALIZED HE HAD A CASE...
"I had an actual chance of getting this money back."
AFTER HUNDREDS OF HOURS ON THE PHONE... AND SURFING THE INTERNET... HODNETT DISCOVERED THAT IF A BANK CASHES A CHECK WITHOUT THE PROPER ENDORSEMENTS...  THEY COULD HAVE TO REFUND THE MONEY...
AND THATS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED... HE SAYS NEARLY ONE YEAR AFTER AMERICAN SHINGLE CASHED HIS CHECK... AND DISAPPEARED... THE INSURANCE COMPANY MADE GOOD.
" the insurance company cut me a brand new check, for the original amount, it looked identical to the first check and we were able to get out roof repaired that way."
HODNETT HIRED A DIFFERENTCOMPANY TO REPAIR THIS ROOF....AND LESS THAN THREE WEEKS AFTER HE SIGNED THE CONTRACT... EVERY SHINGLE WAS IN PLACE...
"It was incredible... we definitely celebrated."

STD HODNETT SAYS HE BELIEVES HE ISN'T THE ONLY CUSTOMER WHOSE CHECK WASN'T PROPERLY ENDORSED.
HE SAYS HE HOPES HIS STORY CAN HELP OTHER CUSTOMERS GET THEIR MONEY BACK.
