   AND I'M LEAH JOHNSON..
THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.

AFTER EIGHT YEARS ON CAPITOL HILL... CONGRESSMAN JIM MARSHALL RETURNED HOME TO CENTRAL GEORGIA.
HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE GATHERED AT TERMINAL STATION TONIGHT TO SAY "THANK YOU" TO THE FOUR TERM HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE.
ELEANOR LISSITZYN SPOKE WITH MARSHALL ABOUT HIS TIME IN WASHINGTON... AND HIS PLANS FOR THE FUTURE.
"Good work Jim Marshall and Welcome home"
HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HELPED WELCOME HOME FORMER U.S CONGRESSMAN JIM MARSHALL AT TERMINAL STATION THURSDAY EVENING...
MARSHALL SAYS HE WAS HUMBLED SO MANY TURNED OUT TO SAY THANK YOU... BUT HE SAYS THE GRATITUDE WAS UNNCESSESARY...
"I was doing what I wanted to do, it was a privalege to serve."
MARSHALL INSISTS HE DIDN'T MAKE IT TO CAPITAL HILL ON HIS OWN... AND says THE REAL PEOPLE TO THANK ARE RIGHT HERE AT HOME...
"The thanks go to all those...particuarily my family... who have supported me."
FORMER ROBINS COMMANDER RON SMITH WORKED WITH MARSHALL WHEN MARSHALL WAS MAYOR OF MACON... HE SAYS HE'S PROUD TO CALL HIM A FRIEND... AND SAYS WORKING WITH MARSHALL WAS AN HONOR...
"Probably one of the highlights of my life."
MARSHALL SAYS HE'S MOST PROUD OF THE WAY HIS ADMINISTRATION WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE LIVES OF CENTRAL GEORGIANS ON A PERSONAL LEVEL...
"For that individual person...that means more than anything in the world2:56"
BUT IT WASN'T ALL SMOOTH SAILING IN WASHINGTON... MARSHALL SAYS HE MADE MISTAKES... ONE OF THEM... HE SAYS WAS HIS VOTE TO TAKE BACK BONUS MONEY FROM A.I.G EXECUTIVES IN THE WAKE OF THE GOVERNMENT BAILOUT ...
"I sent out an apology letter immediatly...A contract Is a contract."
AS FOR THE FUTURE... MARSHALL SAYS HIS IMMEDIATE PLANS INVOLVE TEACHING AT PRINCETON NEXT SEMESTER... BUT LONG TERM HE HAS ANOTHER VISION...
"Probably sitting on a front porch somewhere enjoying my grand children."
AND HIS SUPPORTERS SAY NO MATTER WHERE HIS CAREER MAY TAKE HIM... THEY'LL ALWAYS BE HAPPY TO HAVE HIM BACK...
"Thank you...god bless."
WHEN ASKED IF HE WOULD SEEK OFFICE AGAIN... MARSHALL SAID HE HASN'T RULED IT OUT AS A POSSIBILITY.

A BIBB COUNTY MAGISTRATE JUDGE WAS STILL ON THE JOB TODAY.... EVEN AFTER SUPERIOR COURT JUDGES WITHDREW HER APPOINTMENT.
OUR REPORTER BRITTINY BARBER FOUND SELINDA HANDSFORD AT THE COURTHOUSE TODAY.
SHE WAS IN THE MAGISTRATE'S OFFICE... BUT SAID SHE HAD NO COMMENT ABOUT THE JUDGES ORDER.
THIS AFTERNOON...A MAGISTRATE COURT CLERK TOLD US... HANDSFORD HAD NOT SIGNED ANY WARRANTS TODAY.
DISTRICT ATTORNEY GREGG WINTERS SAYS IF ANYONE PERFORMS THE DUTIES OF A MAGISTRATE WITHOUT THE AUTHORITY ... THEIR ACTIONS COULD BE CHALLENGED AND OVERTURNED.
HANDSFORD RESIGNED AS A MAGISTRATE FIVE YEARS AGO...TO AVOID PROSECUTION AFTER BEING ACCUSED OF TAKING ILLEGAL PAYMENTS ON THE JOB.
BUT CHIEF MAGISTRATE BILLY RANDALL REAPPOINTED HER THIS WEEK.
THE COUNTY'S FIVE SUPERIOR COURT JUDGES SIGNED OFF ON THE RE-APPOINTMENT... THEN FOUR OF THE FIVE WITHDREW APPROVAL ON WEDNESDAY.
WE ALSO TRIED TO TALK WITH JUDGE RANDALL.
HIS SECRETARY TOLD US HE DIDN'T PLAN TO ACT ON THE JUDGES' ORDER TODAY.. AND HE HAD NO COMMENTS.

25-YEAR-OLD BIBB FIREFIGHTER PAUL BRONSON (BRAWN-SON) CALLS HIS CAMPAIGN SLOGAN "CHANGING TOMORROW TODAY."
THE RECENT FORT VALLEY GRAD ALSO HOLDS THE POST OF 48TH BRIGADE LIEUTENANT.
IF ELECTED HE HOPES TO REVIEW CITY HEALTH AND RETIREMENT BENEFITS... FIX THE PENSION PLAN...  AND INCREASE POLICE MANPOWER TO HELP REDUCE CRIME.
BRONSON SAYS HE ALSO WANTS TO REVITALIZE DOWNTOWN  AND HELP BOOST JOBS BY BRINGING OUT-OF-STATE BUSINESSES TO THE AREA.
HE SAYS HIS EXPERIENCE AS A CITY WORKER... PROMPTED HIM TO RUN.
Paul Bronson, Macon
"There was a lack of communication amongst the city employees, as far as the department heads go.  I think the biggest thing is they want to be heard and they're not being heard.  The city is hurting and as far as I'm concerned as a firefighter the same way I fight fires is the same way I want to go and put the fire out in the city of Macon.
BRONSON SAYS HE PLANS TO TARGET SOCIAL MEDIA SITES... LIKE FACEBOOK...TO GET HIS NAME OUT.
CITY CLERK JEAN HOWARD SAYS THE QUALIFYING DATE HAS NOT BEEN SET.

GOVERNOR-ELECT NATHAN DEAL HAS SET UP A BLIND TRUST TO CONTROL HIS PERSONAL ASSETS WHILE HE'S IN OFFICE.
THE REPUBLICAN ALSO SAYS HE PLANS TO KEEP CONTROL OF KEY PROPERTY SUCH AS HIS HOME AND LAND THAT HOUSED A FAILED SPORTING GOODS VENTURE.
TIFTON-BASED ACCOUNTANT AND DEAL POLITICAL SUPPORTER JIMMY ALLEN WILL OVERSEE THE GOVERNOR'S ASSETS WHILE HE'S IN OFFICE.
DEAL ALSO RESTRUCTURED A TWO-POINT-TWO MILLION DOLLAR LOAN THAT WAS DUE NEXT MONTH.
ALLEN SAID DEAL AND HIS WIFE HAVE PAID OFF ABOUT 850 THOUSAND DOLLARS OF THAT DEBT... AND THE REST HAS BEEN REFINANCED AND IS DUE IN THREE YEARS.
DEAL MOVED INTO THE GOVERNOR'S MANSION TODAY... AND TAKES OFFICE ON MONDAY.

A JURY CONVICTED TWO MEN OF MISTREATING DOZENS OF DOGS IN WASHINGTON COUNTY.
THAT'S ACCORDING TO DISTRICT ATTORNEY HEYWARD ALTMAN.
THE CHARGES CAME AFTER A FEBRUARY RAID IN SANDERSVILLE...WHERE DEPUTIES SAID THEY FOUND DOZENS OF DEAD DOGS...AND 26 MORE THAT WERE STARVING AND FREEZING.
ALTMAN SAYS DERRICK DANIELS OF DEKALB COUNTY AND BILLY TAYLOR JUNIOR OF SANDERSVILLE WERE CONVICTED OF 26 MISDEMEANOR COUNTS OF ANIMAL CRUELY.
HE SAYS DANIELS WAS SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN STATE PRISON AND FIVE YEARS OF PROBATION.
TAYLOR WAS SENTENCED TO ONE YEAR IN COUNTY JAIL AND NINE YEARS OF PROBATION.
ALTMAN SAID THE DOGS' INJURIES POINTED TO DOGFIGHTING...BUT PROSECUTORS COULDN'T PROVE THAT...SO THE JURY FOUND THEM NOT GUILTY ON TWO FELONY COUNTS.

NEW-TOWN MACON SAYS DEMAND FOR DOWNTOWN LOFTS MAY BE MUCH HIGHER THAN THE CITY HAS AVAILABLE NOW.
NEW TOWN MACON'S KRIS HATTAWAY SAYS A 2008 STUDY SHOWS MACON HAS ENOUGH DEMAND TO SUPPORT NEARLY 200 NEW HOUSING UNITS... LIKE LOFTS AND APARTMENTS EACH YEAR.
NOW.. SHE SAYS...PEOPLE OCCUPY NEARLY 95 PERCENT OF THE CITY'S 400 UNITS.
THE ECONOMY PUT A CHILL ON NEW LOFT BUILDING PLANS...SO DEVELOPERS ONLY PUT ABOUT 20 ON THE MARKET LAST YEAR.
MACON ATTORNEY BRIAN ADAMS MOVED TO A DOWNTOWN APARTMENT LAST YEAR AND SAID THE SWITCH MADE SENSE FOR HIM..
Brian Adams, Macon: "I love being down here, I walk to work and my office is less than a block away."
Kris Hattaway, NewTown Macon: "The more they come down here and they spend time down here, then it makes more sense for them to eventually move downtown when the opportunity becomes available."

THE HOTTEST NEW TECH TOYS ARE BEING UNVEILED THIS WEEK IN LAS VEGAS AT THE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW.
BUT AS KENDIS GIBSON TELLS US... THERE'S ONE KIND OF COMPUTER THAT'S GETTING ALL THE BUZZ.
PKG:

IF THIS YEAR'S CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW IS AN INDICATOR, THE WORLD WILL SOON
BE DOMINATED BY ONE PARTICULAR TYPE OF COMPUTER...

(Sot)

Sam Dusi/ Very lightweight thin, tablet
Showroom guy: Here's our tablet pc

MORE THAN 50  MODELS OF TABLET  COMPUTERS  ARE  BEING UNVEILED AT THE ANNUAL
TECH FEST IN LAS VEGAS.

THE LAUNCH OF MOTOROLA'S  XOOM TABLET  IS  ONE OF THE MOST ANTICAPTED

(Sot-Motorola rep: This is the quintessential tablet)

BLACKBERRY  AND SAMSUNG ARE AMONG THOSE JOINING THE RACE AS WELL. SAMSUNG
CLAIMS TO HAVE ONE OF THE SMALLEST  TABLETS AROUND.

Trevor Lambert/Samsung: Its actually seven inches so it lends itself well to
portability

Kendis Gibson/CBS News: Everyone is trying to get in on the tablet market now.
Analys ts   predict that by 2015, a third of all consumers in the U--S will be
using some sort of tablet p-c.

BUT APPLE'S IPAD   DOMINATES IN THIS SECTOR, WITH 90 PERCENT OF THE MARKET,
AFTER SELLING ABOUT 13 MILLION  UNITS SINCE ITS DEBUT LESS THAN A YEAR AGO.

KG: So is this going to compete with apple's ipad?
Blackberry dude: (long pause) welllll who knows

MANY TECH EXPERTS  SUSPECT IT'LL BE AN UPHILL BATTLE FOR MOST OF THESE TABLETS.

(Sot:  Molly Wood CNET Execuitve Editor)

WITH SO MANY TABLETS HITTING THE MARKET, THE CONSUMERS WILL BE THE REAL
WINNER.      OTHER HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW INCLUDE NEW PRODUCTS THAT HELP CONNECT GADGETS SUCH AS PHONES... TELEVISIONS AND APPLIANCES THROUGH THE INTERNET.       AND AT LEAST ONE COMPANY HAS ALREADY ANNOUNCED A NEW 3-D TELEVISION THAT USES THE LIGHT CHEAP GLASSES USED IN 3-D THEATERS RATHER THAN THE HEAVIER ONES USED WITH THE 3-D T-V'S INTRODUCED LAST YEAR.
