The producers of the baseball drama "42" have decided they won't need hundreds of unpaid extras at Luther Williams Field next week after all.
That's according to a Facebook message posted Thursday morning by Southern Hollywood Events, one of the companies handling casting for the Harrison Ford film.
After shooting baseball-game scenes in Birmingham and Chattanooga, they said, the film company decided it was too unwieldly and time-consuming to approve 1940s-era hair and costume for hundreds of extras.
Film spokesman Ernie Malik confirmed that they'll be cutting back on extras. He said they'll still be filming game scenes at Macon's historic Luther Williams Field, but with fewer extras.
And all of the extras used will be paid, he said.
The filming at Luther Williams Field is scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday, June 11 and 12.
He said the other company working on casting, CLCasting, still needs paid extras for certain roles. They can be reached at CLCastingMacon@gmail.com.
Here is the statement from Southern Hollywood Events
Due to the overwhelming response in Birmingham and Chattanooga, we have experienced enormous delays in getting everyone through hair/makeup/wardrobe as you arrive to set. Because of the historic nature involved in this film, our hair/makeup and wardrobe stylists must adhere to strict guidelines concerning authentic 1940's looks and everyone's hair, makeup and wardrobe must be personally approved by the film's wardrobe stylist. As you can imagine, it is very time consuming for them to approve nearly 500 people each day. Therefore, it is with great regret that Southern Hollywood Events will not be participating in the Macon filming of "42" per the Executive Producer's request. This was not by our choice. Logistically speaking, this approval process is more than the film's wardrobe stylist can handle.
The amount of background artists that they need for the Macon scenes have been drastically cut and they no longer need large crowds to act as the background.
However, the Executive Producer did say that they have opened up more paid featured extra roles in the film. CL Casting has available spots to be paid extras on "42". If you are available June 11th and 12th in Macon and still want to be apart of filming this historic All-American hero story then please email CLCastingMacon@gmail.com. Include 3 pics (head and body) age, ht, wt, and all contact info.
Please know that this is beyond our control and if we could accommodate all of you please know that we would. Please email CL Casting @CLCastingMacon@gmail.com with all questions and concerns. They will take good care of all of you in Macon.
Please be sure to continue to follow us on Facebook for future projects. We really look forward to seeing all of you again in the future on another set.)
